That messed me up as a newbie, too. Go to http://www.tektek.org and click the "Dream Avatar" button. This will let you create character images from ANY Gaia items. If it exists, you can see what it will look like. When you save it, tektek will store it for you and give you the url to post it. Pretty cool, huh?

This isn't really a tektek ... just an animation that I made from screen shots of my avi. I have no idea why the colors freaked out, but it looks pretty cool.

Sylba  Milly! biggrin I thought milly had brown hair o.o  or  Wolfwood =D  ^^ legato which was probably the hardest character to make on tek tek ><
