The female tokoro adorned with little stars and crescents finally awoke, feeling the sun's caressing warmth... and that wasn't the only warmth that was felt. Carefully, she raised her head so she wouldn't disturb.. whoever was sleeping beside her. Who could this individual be? It certainly wasn't a being with malice, it didn't seem.. Her head felt a bit heavy, and she ached where wounds have been marked on her. Speaking of wounds... she was attacked the previous night, and she just blacked out.

Tentatively, she reached out and began to gently nudge the other's shoulder. Could this be the one who had driven the beast away, without her knowing? She wondered.. Was he hurt? If only she could see...

She would continue to nudge him until she'd hear the kind of sounds that're made when one wakes up.

User ImageA heavenly-white male, with feathery hair and rainbow-like markings on his coat, sighed softly as something nudged his shoulder. Too many times had he awoken alone in his life, without the warmth and comfort of another, so why should he awake at all? Then the soft touch on his fur registered in his mind, and his eys shot open, a small gasp coming from his mouth. Ah, yes... the previous events came back to him. He suddenly recognized the dark-coated female that he was laying next to.

"Forgive me... eh..." he muttered quietly, his voice deep and strangely soft, as if not used to speaking. This was the first tokoro he had been around in quite awhile, and even though he felt uncomfortable around others, he still remembered his manners.

Then he saw her wound. His brow knitted in concern as he worriedly said, "You're hurt."

"No, no, it's alright.. I should be the one to apologize for waking you," Candra said with a smile. So now she knew that this tokoro wasn't one with bad intentions. He had been watching over her.

When she heard concern in his voice, it only made her smile more.

"It's nothing, really.. it just aches a little. It'll heal on its own fine, but I could make the process faster if I could just find some useful herbs around here.. I lost my pouch the other day, how silly of me."

Candra slowly sat up and began to preen herself a bit.

"Does it look that bad? -- Oh, mind my manners! I'm Candra... and who might you be?"

Haji was surprised to see the female smile after he spoke. Smiling... it seemed such a foreign thing to him. And the way she made it look so easy, as if it were natural... it made him a bit uneasy. But it looked lovely on her, as if she were born to grin... Her smile reminded him of his past love, and he was almost lost again to the thought of her. But he kept himself from fading. 'No,' he thought to himself. 'I've made a comittment here. I will not return to what I was...' It was destined for him to find this female, he was sure, for it had kept his soul from disappearing completely.

"An herb pouch?" he whispered, repeating her words. "Perhaps... perhaps there is some way we could find it?" Then he fell silent, perpexed as her smiled widened.

"Candra... That name suits you. My name is Haji," he stated, standing a bit straighter. He watched as she fixed her fur, and said, "It's not too severe, as long as it doesn't pain you too much. But please... if there is anything I can do to help, I will willingly oblige." He wanted to help her brush the dried blood away, but again, his hesitation held him. What would she think, if he just dove into her matters? This experience was strange for him, being a loner as he was.

But he had to help. He was not one to stand idly by when someone else needed assistance, no matter how uneasy he felt. So he searched the ground, and when he found what he was looking for, he retrieved a large, dew-covered leaf that had fallen from the trees above. He slowly moved closer to Candra, letting her sense his movements, and gently brushed the leaf against the already-healing wound. "Here... this may help, for I have done the same to myself." He continued to cleanse her side with the dew of the leaf, until all traces of blood were gone, and all that could be seen were a few small punture wounds. The kindly action seemed to bring a wave of foreign emotion to him, and to cure his own nervousness, he gave a faint, half-hearted smile and said, "Though I must admit that it is much harder to cleanse blood from my white fur than from your dark fur. At least I was not injured this time. Though I would have willingly taken the blows for you... for anyone, that is."

Candra released a small sigh of content when she felt the cool moisture from the leaf begin to cleanse her wounds. She was lucky someone came to save her, but at the same time she felt guilty for having put this fellow in danger.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Haji... I.. Thank you." Her ears lowered, and there was a small frown upon her lips. "Yet, I feel terrible for putting you in that kind of danger. You must be someone with family... I have no one, and I would have no regrets if the beast had finished me off quickly."

Then she smiled again, sitting up more properly. "Forgive me for speaking that way... Perhaps.. I was fated to meet you. My father was a fortune teller, and one of my fortunes foretold of a day that I would meet someone like you, that I would be saved from danger. None of the other pack members believed him, though..."

She began to sniff the air a bit. "Ah, my herb pouch is actually close by.. Are you a local of this area?"

Haji fell silent and still for a moment as she mentioned "family". His thoughts drifted back to not so long ago; the dark fur, the sweet face, the carefree and kind personality. The warmth, the love...

"I have no family," he murmured, his voice lower and colder than he had meant it to be. He quickly regained his composure and looked away, gazing at a nearby bush. "Forgive me... I've not been around many other tokoro. I... can be distant at times."

"As for you, Candra. Although I have just met you, I also think that it was fate, and I couldn't have taken it if you had died. I can't blame myself for another death. I can't... lose another!" His voice was as soft as the breeze, yet filled with so much emotion that it seemed as if it would break loose at any moment. But he felt foolish for acting so open in front of this female that he had just met. His head hung even lower. "Sorry. Please, just ignore this. It's been built up inside of me for so long." Feeling more awkward than ever, he tried to put on his confident facade yet again.

"I possess no knowledge of this area, though I will be glad to assist you with my sight, if you should so need it. It's the least I can do for you, after acting so... strange. If only you could see that I'm really not the crazy male that you're hearing!" He added a small, half-hearted chuckle at the end. "I'm going to stay with you, Candra. I feel that it was meant to be."

The dark female listened to Haji's story intently, her ears giving a small flick. From the sound of it, Haji has been through a lot, but it was no business of her's to prod into his personal life. However, Candra has lost family as well. The villagers wouldn't listen to her father's warning of an attack that would happen, thinking that he was a senile old man. She, herself, had been stubborn to leave her father's side when she had been ordered to run away as far as she could. Candra hadn't any idea who or what attacked her pack, but perhaps it was the beast who preyed upon her the previous night.

She reached out until her paw rested on Haji's shoulder, her lips curled into a warm smile. "I don't think you're crazy... and I couldn't ask for anything more. I never would have thought I would bump into someone, willing to be my companion. I'll do my best not to be a nuisance."

Candra sniffed the air again. "I'm going to go see if I can find my pouch.." She began to head in the direction of where she thought her pouch was, hoping nothing has been lost inside it.

Haji accepted the touch of her paw on his shoulder, the only tokoro touch that he had allowed since the death of his past love. It felt so strange, in a way; like all of her compassion simply flowed into his body. He could feel it, feel the sympathy that she held for him. It felt so... good.

Then he chuckled. "A nuisance? How could someone as caring as you be a nuisance? I think that's the most terrible thing I've ever heard." Already, her light heart had lifted his mood.

Haji trotted after her as headed off, staying just far enough way as not to disturb her concentration. "I'm coming with you, Candra."

A sudden uneasy feeling hit his gut, something like he had felt before. A warning? Instinct? He paused, listening to the soft morning sonds of the jungle, but heard nothing out of the ordinary. A soft clicking here, a chirping there, the sound of whispering leaves above, the soft swish of the grass beneath his feet. No, nothing was wrong... but why did he feel so on-edge? A shiver crept up his spine, but with one last look at the empty shadows, he continued his following of Candra. Though this time he paced right beside her, not wanting to be any farther away. Something was amiss... he just didn't know what it was.

"Well, I was thinking my blindness would be something of a big handicap.."

That was strange. The scent of her herb pouch was beginning to broaden out, yet she was able to pick up where the scent was strongest. It was certainly comforting to have Haji close by. When she drew closer to the herb pouch, it was nestled in a tuft of grass. Candra had to paw at the ground until she felt the familiar texture of her pouch beneath her hand. It was more of a shoulder bag, but it wasn't that big. Good for traveling.

"I found it!" The broad smile on her lips vanished as soon as it appeared, and her ears flattened against her head. "I...Its scent... I can smell it.. it's -- Haji, it's close.."

Candra hurried back to the feathered hair tokoro, nearly bumping into him. Her ears had perked back up -- not only was her sense of smell sharp, but her hearing as well... but her sense of smell was stronger. She took a sort of defensive stance, one paw slipping into her pouch, searching for something.

Within moments, a tiger had leaped from his hiding spot close by, letting out a growl. Candra almost froze from terror, but managed to toss a powder of sorts into its face. The large feline roared and began to paw at his face, his eyes shut close.

"Run!"

Haji was frozen stock-still as the tiger emerged from the dense foliage. Glowing amber eyes from the night before re-emerged in his mind, and the haunting sharp toothed smile grinned at him yet again. For a moment, he thought that the tiger was just a dream, a vision. For why would the beast return when it had fled once before? Had it not had enough?

Haji was thrown back into reality by Candra's movements, and he watched in amazement as she tossed something from her herb pouch into the tiger's face. It yowled and clawed at it's eyes, a strangely frightening yet pitiful sight.

Haji heard her shout, but didn't run. He darted next to her and pushed against her side, seperating her from the tiger's line of attack. "I not going without you, Candra!! Come on, let's go!" He stayed right next to her, guiding her away as they gained speed. He thought that their speed might be enough, but knew better as the sound of hurried strides came from behind them. The tiger was gaining.

"We have to think of a plan!" Haji shouted, fearfully glancing behind him. But even though he felt fear, another emotion filled his chest. It was defiance, the defiance of death and death of the ones he loved. He wouldn't let this tiger touch Candra again, no matter how he had to stop it.
