The Brotherhood of Steel Medical Center

The Brotherhood of Steel Medical Center is a fairly new structure sporting brand new medical technology. Built over the previous Medical Bunker, this new Center is two stories tall, 40 meters wide, 38 meters long, and possesses the facilities to treat and hospitalize over 50 Brotherhood soldiers. However, the most common users of the medical center are wasteland citizens lulled by the promise of advanced healthcare and protection. These citizens often bring payment in the form of raw materials (metal, gold, silver, jewels, technology, information), and are treated as guests within the Medical Center. The Medical Center is one of the few ways that the Brotherhood contributes to Wasteland civilization.
The foyer of the Medical Center is protected by 2 feet of reinforced concrete on all four sides capable of resisting 25mm bullets and small arms fire. All medical personnel are trained in fire-fighting and fire-retardent sprays are located every 5 meters. Fire-hoses are located every 10 meters.
The Center also generates its own electricity thanks to solar panels on the roof of the building and purifies its own water and air. It is essentially an autonomous building falling under the specific jurisdiction of the Brotherhood of Steel and servicing its members as a priority.

MEDICAL CENTER CAPACITY: MEDIUM
Currently Servicing: BOS soldiers and wastelanders
Total Occupancy: 4 BOS Soldiers
-------------9 Wastelanders

Medical Center Level 1 (Foyer)

User Image

The Foyer of the Medical Center is comprised of Seven distinct areas.

General Operating Rooms (GOR): These extremely sterile rooms are numbered 1 through 4 on the right and are the principle operating rooms of the entire Med Center. These rooms have state-of-the-art technology imported (or stolen) from vaults around the former United States. Anesthesia machines with the capability of tracking antidal breathing rates, heart rates, and a multitude of massive data, as well as built in drug dispensers have been installed next to a operating table. Sterile tables with a large number of surgical equipment are usually installed just before the surgery begins. In addition, there are several open closets (not depicted), where robes, surgical scrubs and gloves are stored. Sterilization Rooms (noted in Orange) contain autoclaves: large stoves where equipment is sterilized.
Surgeons (and other surgery staff) wash and prep themselves in the Wash-Room where large sinks and soap dispensers are located. Patients are wheeled into the OR through the large double doors. Almost every surface in the OR is slightly pink. The white tiles have slowly lost their color to blood.

Clinic: The clinic (to the bottom left) is where doctors treat minor wounds, engage in checkups and take care of the citizens of the wastelands that trade goods for medical expertise. Each clinic has a bed, and a desk with a computer.

Offices: The offices just north of the clinic are the haven of tired or busy doctors. It is here that Dr. Sanyusen or Dr. Yulia can be found on a daily basis either passed out from working, or writing up papers on procedures or research. A secretary workroom provides the necessary copying and clerical duties of the hospital, and doctors are frequently seen in the doctors workroom engaging in lectures or discussion. The On-Call Workroom is for doctors working 24 hour shifts and is abundantly stocked in coffee.

1st level Wards (Top Left) The Officer's Ward on the first floor are reserved for higher-ranking officers, or if there few patients. Essentially, the Ward rooms provide VIP care, and are staffed 24/7 with nurses. Each room has a bed, fully functional monitoring equipment, and a TV.

Emergency Department (ED) : (Top Center) As with all Military hospitals in the front lines, the ED has a tendency to receive patients in critical care. The Emergency drop-off room is really just a glorified garage where patients are rushed in on ambulances, but more commonly, humvee's or APC's. The patients are triaged immediately and brought to the ICU or GOR's

Patient Centers: (Center) This category encompasses the Pre-Op Center, the Recovery Room, the ICU (Intensive Care Unit), as well as the waiting room. The Pre-Op Center is where patients are prepped for surgery. The ICU is where patients arrive from the ED, the OR, or the Recovery Room. The ICU is basically the area of best patient care if you are in poor condition. The Recovery room is the area where patients are deposited after surgery. Patients may leave the recovery room to go home, or may be transferred to the ICU if their condition worsens.
People in the waiting room may be patients or simply relatives. Most people in the waiting room are not in critical condition.

Logistics and Environmental Services: The Equipment Room is run by Radiology Technicians and Nurses. They service the OR's with fluoroscopes and other equipment necessary to surgery. Rooms denoted by a recycling sign indicates an area where trash disposal takes place. Env. workers often take trash out of the ORs and Ward Rooms in order to insure sterility. Trash is dropped through a series of tubes and chutes, leading to a common furnace.

Note: Rooms labeled "Secr." are secretary workstations. These areas are usually high flow areas and require someone to establish documentation to maintain consistent care.

Medical Center Level 2 (Emergency Rooms and Research Centers

User Image

This floor is critical to the Medical Center's Emergency Care Department as well as hospital research and logistics.
The areas are divided into Five major divisions: The Medivac ED, The Hospital 2nd Story Logistics, The General Wards, The Research Center, and the Blood/Biopsy Testing Center.

The Medivac ED: Also known as the Emergency Rooms, this level of the hospital is usually reserved for Emergency Medical Care. When the Medivac lands, the wounded are shipped out of the chopper and one of the Emergency rooms. If these are already in use, wounded may be transported down the Northeast elevator to the GOR's or to the General Wards.

The General Wards: These wards are given to soldiers who need specialized attention, or who come from Emergency Care. These soldiers may come from both the GOR or ER. The Wards are staffed 24/7 by nurses overseen by a hospitalist.

The Blood/Biopsy Testing Labs: These laboratories tests the biopsies recieved from pre-op, clinic, ER or GOR's to determine maladies or diseases that may be infecting tissues. People in these labs are crucial to detecting and providing important diagnostic information. In the blood labs, technicians handle, send, and receive blood donations, as well as test the blood for diseases, type, antigens, and quality.

The Research Labs: Usually used by doctors performing their own research in various fields. These labs may be used for quick topic examinations, or for synthesizing new drugs. Each lab has a variety of relatively new equipment that will provide the researchers the data they need to collect.

Hospital 2nd Story Logistics: The Environmental Services department has much equipment to store on the 2nd story. In addition, the EMS crews that run the medivac have various equipement rooms in order to aid hospital staff, or repari and refuel the chopper. In addition, a larger Radiology room has been added for quick x-rays of Critical patients, as well as providing additional radiology support for the GOR's downstairs. A diagnostic team runs this Radiology Room, and it is fitted with the latest of MRI and CT scan technology.
A lockeroom is provided for those that don't have offices. They are Co-Ed and used to change into scrubs. A shower has been provided to wash off blood.

The roof is also home to a multitude of solar panels. These panels provide a large portion of the power that the Medical Center requires and feeds directly to a battery in the basement, where the energy is stored.

Medical Center Basement

User Image

The Basement of the Medical Center has Five Major areas: The Morgue, The Radioactivity Wards, The Lower Wards, the Equipment and Generator Rooms, and the Experimentation Department.

The Morgue: This is the first place our Brother's and Sister's are taken for Autopsy. A dissection table is used to remove shrapnel or embedded material from the corpse, and then the corpse is cleaned for burial. A large freezer locker can store up to 10 corpses at 200 Kelvin. Occasionally, the corpses may be harvested for organs, or bone grafts.

The Radioactivity Wards: Sometimes, our Brothers or Sisters may be exposed to massive amounts of Radiation. In these cases, they are isolated in a specialized ward where the walls have lead plating. Nurses wear protective lead coats and reside in a specialized lead-armored and windowed office.

The Lower Wards: Lower priority patients reside in this ward. It is a bit more comfortable than the ICU. These wards are commonly unoccupied, which makes these beds often used by doctors trying to catch a few winks between shifts. When in use, this ward is staffed by a few nurses and a Physician's Assistant.

Equipment Room: Logistic and Radiology Technicians cant store the bulky equipment they tow around in the halls. When not in use, equipment is stored here. A room in the back allows for technicians to make repairs or upgrade their equipment.

Generator and Water Pump: The Medical Center uses a fair bit of Water and Electricity, the solar panels on the 2nd level send the excess energy to the batteries down in this room. The water is pumped from an underground well and treated in the same tank.

The Experimentation Department/Isolation Wards: This department is an adjunct of the Research Center Experimentation Department and thus falls under the joint jurisdiction of the R&D Department and the Medical Department of the BOS. When a Brother or Sister contracts a strange new disease or a creature of particular interest is captured, it is brought here. To the north of the Experimentation rooms, there is an isolation ward where creatures may be put into vats and anesthetized to preserve or observe them. Dangerous or otherwise contagious subjects are kept in a super-secure room. The walls are titanium reinforced, Doors are a foot thick, ventilation is sent to a separate container and tested, and new air is pumped in. Food is delivered from a tube and a Squire is in charge of Ward Security. The isolation ward is not very commonly used as a detention center but rather isolation center.

Important Updates!

NEW DOCTORS, NURSES AND MEDICS! Please read the Glossary of Medical Terms and the take a look at the Anatomical Charts!
You will be expected to know and use these terms when you RP!
PostPosted: Tue Jul 29, 2008 10:41 am

Triage: I feel sick! Where do I go??

Welcome to the Brotherhood's new Medical Center! Depending on the severity of your medical complications you will be triaged and assigned a priority level!

(4) Priority 4/No Priority: This priority is assigned to you if you are visiting a patient or a doctor for a personal appointment somewhere off the Medical Center's vicinity (IE: a lunch date in the Mess Hall or work in the Research Center)
Upon entering the Med. Center from the Main Entrance please stop by the front desk of the waiting area to speak with Nurse Parsons. You will be given a grey sticker and either asked to sit and wait in the waiting area, or given permission to access the doctor's office.

(3) Priority 3/ Low priority: This encompasses those seeking an appointment, or are here because of a previously scheduled appointment or check-up. Please follow the green arrows in the map and stop by the front desk of the waiting area to speak with Nurse Parsons. You will be called to the Clinic momentarily.

(2) Priority 2/Medium Priority: Those lucky few with same-day operations will need to stop by the front desk of the waiting room to speak with Nurse Parsons. They will be given a yellow sticker and asked to proceed to the Pre-Op Center, where they will change into their patient gown. Then, led by a nurse, they will follow the yellow lines to the Operating Rooms. Once operation is complete they are transported to the Recovery Room to recuperate, and if they aren't Out-Patients, they are then transferred to the ICU or Ward Rooms. Once they've arrived at the Pre-Op center, the entire management of their movement is undertaken by a nurse to minimize patient confusion.

(1) Priority 1/High Priority: These patients are the unlucky soldiers who stepped in the line of fire. Or burned themselves in an explosion at the Research Center. In either case, they are not brought in by the main entrance, but rather, from the Emergency Department.
There are two ways of arriving in the Emergency Department. The first is by land: Critical care staff with bring the patient down the red lines (red hallways also denote critical care areas), and the patients will be taken to the ICU (if the condition is deemed suppressible in the ICU) or the GOR's.
If the patient arrives by air, they are brought into the ER's and treated there. Once the operations are complete they are put into the Upper Ward. When the patients have been operatively treated, they become Priority 2 and follows the same yellows lines as Medium Priority subjects.

(0) Priority 0/ Code Chief: If the General or a very high ranking member of the BOS falls in battle, the Med Center prioritizes to save the these VIP's. Priority is given to chief patients at the expense of priority 2 patients.

Posting Etiquette!

(1) This is an RP forum, but questions regarding physiology, biology, and anatomy can also be answered here. Please RP them into a doctor consult.
(2) Please be respectful of others! Bashing is rude!
(3) I ask that you do not display images in your signature. Rank and division is appreciated, but extra-large pictures that describe yourself take up space and are unnecessary.
(4) Dice rolling is not necessary. All actions aside from fighting are RPed.

Thank you for your attention!

((Sorry Segurius didn't mean to cause any trouble sweatdrop ))

Alex woke up in her bed the very next morning feeling really groggy as she slowly opened her eyes as she stared up at the blank white roof of her room,
Uhhgh.. I'm in the hospital again what am i doing he-... Oh yeah.. Now i remember the operation. She thought as she quickly bolted up only to find her self restrained to the bed so she wouldn't harm herself and some how worsen the recovery process of the surgery.

Find it impossible to move enough to see her new arm Alex sighed loudly as she laid her head back down still feeling a little dizzy and groggy, not to mention the sheering numbness in her left side.

After about 20 minutes had passed where Alex had spent here time laying in bed feeling really woozy as if the entire room was spinning really fast. Closing her eyes Alex tried to make the spinning stop just as her left arm suddenly jerked it self out of the restraints and planted itself on her forehead where it remained its ice cold steel remaining completely still as she stared at it in sheer shock.
