Welcome to Rose Palace. Here creatures of all kinds live, work and play together in peace and harmony. The palace is literally a city in itself, with the Royal Manor at its heart. There is where our story will take place.

Within the Royal Manor live the Royal Family and the nobility of Rosalind, or Rose Land, the land the Royal Family governs. And caring for them are their seven chosen protectorates: The Elves, the Humans, The Lycans, the Vampires, the Mages, the Faeries and the Animalias.

The Elves are those who hold affinity for the earth and nature.

The Humans are those talented few who have the knowledge of building things and making delicious food from raw ingredients. They are the potters and the painters and the weavers and the cleaners.

The Lycans are the hunters and day-protectors.

The Vampires are the assassins and the night-watchers.

The Mages are the healers and the guardians of the King and Queen.

The Faeries are the growers of all things beautiful.

The Animalia are the human-formed animals; they are the scholars and wise men and women of the Manor.

She walked across the hallway and entered her own private chambers, where her own daughter lay sleeping in a white cradle. Katrina lifted her daughter from the cradle and cuddled her close. "Soon," she whispered. "Soon, I will be able to give you a proper life, Lindsay."

She sighed softly and shook her head, though. "Who am I kidding? This world is not ours. Humans are merely the servants of the greater creatures. We are stuck here until some other race decides that they are better suited to our position and appeals their right to be here. This is what we agreed to."

But it isn't what I agreed to, she thought to herself. She placed Lindsay in her cradle and readied herself for bed.

Katrina woke only a few moments after laying her head down on her pillow, quite literally. She heard a soft wailing from beyond the hallway and sighed. "Oh, sweet baby Kayel, will you not let me rest?" she groaned. She stood, grabbed her rough cotton dressing gown and a candle, and walked across the hall to the nursery.

After she'd put the Prince to bed for the fourth time, Katrina decided to go for a walk in the gardens to clear her head.
