In the elven city of Celestenar, Calar is searching for something to do, A job, you might call it. On his quest, he got into trouble with some human ruffians, and rather than kill them, he ran from them, so as of to not get in trouble with the guards.
Calar ducked into a door, and shut it behind him. He listened at the door for a little while, heard the humans run by, and then he sat down and breathed a sigh of relief.

A pair of eyes snapped open as the door shut with a click. Despite the seeming sleep they had woken from, the figure was not at all groggy. They searched the dark room, finally spotting the dark shape that must be the person who had come in. "Who's there..?" The person asked, their voice revealing a number of feelings; curiosity, concern, wariness, and above all- fear.

Calar jumped, and then he stood up slowly. "My name's Calar."

"Well, it's nice you didn't attack me, at least." The person said in amusement. "Nice to meet you, Calar. My name is Shisharen." She introduced herself. "So why did you come into a forgotten place like this?" She hadn't moved from where she was sitting against the back wall, with her haleberd in her lap.

Calar chuckled. "Funny story that. I was running from some people who didn't like my attitude. I could have taken them on, but then I'd have gotten in trouble with the city guards." He shrugged, his half-elven features marked with good natured humor. "That would have been a major setback in something important that I'm doing, so I decided just to run and hide."

"I'd ask about the important thing, but then it'd probably turn this whole talk into a trading of backgrounds, and that would last forever." Shisharen said. "And in case you were wondering, I was just in here to meditate. And get away from teh people. I stand out too much here.

"Oh?" Calar asked, interestedly. "Why don't you come into the light so I can see what makes you stick out so much?"

"Sure, I guess." Shisharen got to her feet and stepped forward. Her black hair was tied up into a loose ponytail, and her armor and weapon glinted even in the dim light.

"A soldier of some kind, I take it." Calar asked, resting his hands on the hilt of his sword at his waist. He looked completely relaxed, and he stood relaxed, but there was something in his eyes that said he would jump if she moved. "I don't mean any harm." He repeated. Then an idea hit him. "You wouldn't by any chance know..." He trailed off and shook his head. Of course she wouldn't know. She's just a soldier. But maybe she does...

Shisharen shook her head. "Not quite. I'm a Paladin." She said proudly. "If I were a soldier, I wouldn't be roaming freely around the continent, and I certainly wouldn't be in an elven city." Her expression changed to one of confusion, and curiosity. "Who are you asking about?" She questioned. "It's no fair if you just trail off before asking the important part."

Calar flashed a handsome smile quickly. "But that's the funnest part." Calar frowned. "I suppose a paladin just might now what I'm after." He looked her right in the eyes. "Do you know anything about..." He swallowed, and then shook his head. "Anything about the Chalice of Sumner?" He seemed afraid that she might.
((I only have a general idea of what I want in this RP. Please, go ahead and make something up about the Chalice of Sumner. You can even change it's name.))

A look of confusion crossed her face for a moment, before Shisharen thought of something. "I might." She said slowly, thinking hard. "I think I've heard of something by that name. I believe it was a vessel to hold the spirit of the Raven-king, Sumner, because it could not be destroyed?" She shrugged. "I think that's it."

Calar nodded his head in agreement. "That about sums it up." Calar sat down. "The Raven-King was a very... Capricious man. Because of his deeds, somedays his subjects loved him, and sometimes they were afraid for their very lives because of him. He would take daughters off of farms, and then give them gold and send them back, or he would..." Calar blushed and hurried on. "But he was never the same two days in a row. One morning, after a very cruel day, he remained cruel, and he did not change back. The citizens of the country rose up against him, but were only destroyed by his armies, and a hoarde of ravens which he summoned up. He was ultimately destroyed, but his spirit lived in a chalice, from which he drank from every day of his life." Calar eyed Shisharen. "And your probably wondering why I would want to find this, aren't you?"

"Yes." Shisharen agreed. "After all, it's got a pretty bloodstained soul in it. And I can't help but notice that you said find, and not destroy." She tilted her head, as if looking at the idea from a new angle. "Unless you're thinking that you have to find it to destroy it?"

"Not quite." Calar allowed. "I'm not looking to destroy it, or use it, more just so that I can... Study it. I'm very curious about the item. More often than not, you hear stories of near findings of the item, but then the chalice just disappears from where it was hidden, and moves to another location. I'm wanting to find what moves the chalice, and why." Calar cocked his head. "Why the heck am I telling this to you?" He wondered under his breath, not meaning for Shisharen to hear.
