Mercy’s Psychiatric Hospital

With only two psychiatrists, a few custodians, and some secretaries, no one suspected that Mercy’s Psychiatric Hospital would get anywhere. However, after only a year, the two friends that opened the hospital soon became the highest-regarded psychiatrists in the state and two of the top-ten in the country. Mental hospitals send in clients that seem untreatable from all over the world only to be secured in no time with almost no effort at all.
You are a client here, suffering from one of the two disorders that the psychiatrists treat.

The Psychiatrists here only treat two different psychological disorders.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: PTSD, also known as Shell Shock, is a disorder that people develop after living through a traumatic event in their life. Symptoms include flashbacks or nightmares of the event that seem real. Victims relive the experience in their head usually after seeing, hearing about, or being exposed to something that they relay as being related to the traumatic experience. Many causes include witnessing a murder, facing mortality, rape, war, abuse, and much more.
Dissociative Identity Disorder: Also known as Multiple Personality Disorder, this disorder is so uncommon and fantastic that many psychologists and psychiatrists do not believe it exists. This disorder is caused by traumatic events that carry on for a long period of time. This is a coping disorder that is caused by the mind splitting it’s personality into more than one person living in one body. The personalities are so different that there have been actual cases of the different ‘alter personalities’ having diseases and sicknesses such as diabetes while another does not. There can be only one personality or hundreds. Symptoms include amnesia; as the patient does not remember anything that happens while an alter personality takes control of the body. Other symptoms would be headaches, depression, thoughts of suicide, and phobias of things associated with whatever traumatic even caused the disorder. The most common cause of this rare disorder is sexual abuse throughout childhood but many things are documented to have caused it.

Disorder: D i D
Background: Sai was born into an upper middle class family and was an only child. He/she spent his/her childhood days freely and carelessly with the utmost love a child could receive from his/her parents. That is..until that happened. Then Sai's world began to fall apart; a double personality soon developed in the consequence. They were both 'Sai' and had similar personalities, but were different in some aspects as light and day. No one, except his/her parents, knew who came first. Sai, the girl. Or Sai, the boy. His/her parents grew horrified at the formation of a split personality and had many fights about the situation. They soon divorced, leaving Sai all alone. His/her 10 year old self wandered about aimlessly, until they reached Mercy's Psychiatric Hospital. They've grown up there ever since, with no one but themselves to comfort each other.

But, even with the knowledge that the nights couldn't be real, she couldn't handle the nightmares by herself. That was when Bella came to help her. Bella was strong, fearless, a complete fighter. She could handle any nightmare, no matter how dark. Soon, the nights disappeared, the nightmares with them, and Violet only lived during the day, with her friends and her family. But...Instead of things staying perfect...Her family was murdered. Violet doesn't remember a single thing about that night, even though she had been in the house, in her room. Background: When Jinx was little her parents were extra carefull with her. One day she wandered out of the garden gate and got hit by a small car. The doctors said she wouldn't live but she survived. Jessicca would like to pretend she was someone else, like she was her own pretend, invisible friend. Her parents worried and began researching and looking up her case. The worried, Was it DID? But Jessicca grew out of it. Her other personality was really her trying to be someone stronger than she truly was, someone who didn't remember every detail of her car accident. The visions grew worse but she hid them from her parents. Just to worsen it, while Jessicca was walking home from school she passed a hotel. A little girl wandered into the bushes after a small kitten. Jessicca waited for her to come out to see if she had caught it or not. When the girl didn't come out Jess wandered in after her and then saw a man run out. When she moved aside he smiled and grabbed for the "Private" part of her body. Punching him away she cried out and people came running. Going into the bushes farther she fell to her knees in the sceen before her. The little girl lay in an uncomfortable position, gasping for breath, while a knife wound in her stomach oozed quickly with blood. Trying to stop the blood, visions had flashed through her head, the car comming. Grabbing the girl she carried the limp body outside. She didn't survive the night in the hospital. Jessicca was scarred and eventually told her parents. They sent her to Mercy's hospital to recover.

Age: 23
Disorder: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Background: She was concieved as an accident and kept out of guilt. Her parents were alcoholic abusers and were never able to hold jobs. She lived on the streets and was abused in every way imaginable. She was finally able to escape, however, when DCFS was called and saved her from that life and she was able to restart her life with a new family by the time she was 15. When people see her, they see a girl who is monotone; they often refer to her as 'robotic.' She seems not to know emotion; only a blank expression enters her face. No one thinks much of it; assuming it's just a depression that she will crawl out of soon enough. When she got out of college, however, and went to live in a city with areas that resembled the one she had grown up in, she began to have flashbacks that lasted ranges from a few minutes to entire nights of tossing and screaming. After her Landlord called her adoptive parents, they demanded that she see a psychiatrist and crawl out of this 'phase'.

You'll soon drip...

Hope stepped into her empty office and took in a deep breath of the musty air. Unlike most, Hope enjoyed the smell in her office; it was her work's smell.
She looked around the office. She had recently redecorated the interior and loved how it looked. The walls were a light brown and there was oriental decor. The japanese charactor for health stood out in black tattood on the wall near the window. Black leather sofas sat facing each other with a coffee table between them. Her desk was in the corner; the only unorganized thing in the room.
There were papers stacked up in different piles all over the corner desk. Paper work that she did not want to get around to. She groaned at the thought of having to do it, but headed over to the desk, anyway. It was the only downside to this dream job.

We Must Be The Change…

Stepping into the main lobby of the hospital, Mercy switched the signed from 'Closed' to 'Open'. Her first appointment was in a half-hour, so she had plenty of time to relax and pretend to do her paperwork before they came in.
Mercy waved to the secretary named Sheryl and continued to her office as Sheryl waved back.
Her office was painted a soft blue with comfortable loveseats facing each other with a small coffee table between them. She had stolen that idea from Hope's office, but changed the colour scheme. Instead of black, her furnature was all white, along with the carpet and ceiling. a fan hung spinning above her head and the cappucino maker was making her a cup just the way she liked it. The idea of the room was to be dream-like and comforting. The fishtank held beautifully coloured fish that swam around waiting to be fed. Mercy took a pinch of their food and dropped it in the tank, watching them scurry to get a bite.

Violet opened her eyes quickly, breathing heavily. She shot up from the bed she was in, looking around a bit wildly, before taking a deep breath and calming down. Just a nightmare...It had been so long since she had had to deal with one by herself. She shivered, looking around at her strange surroundings.

Ever since she had been sent to the 'special hospital' as the lawyer had put it, she hadn't been protected from the night. It had been a terrible week of nightmare after nightmare. She just couldn't handle it.

What she didn't understand was why Bella hadn't come to save her...Where was she? Violet knew Bella had been sent to the hospital with her, she had been promised that she would be right with the whole time...But instead she was alone. Maybe she was coming in late...Yes...That was probably it...Maybe even tonight she would arrive.

Violet smiled at the thought and got out of bed. She knew she had an appointment with Ms. Mercy this morning and she didn't want to miss it. She still didn't know why she had been sent to this so called 'special hospital' but she knew it probably had something to do with her family's murder...She winced at the memory and quickly stopped thinking about it, it was too painful to do without Bella to comfort her.

Whatever reason she was here, she had been told if she talked to Ms. Mercy and did all that she was asked to do, she could leave. And she really did want to leave...The other people in this hospital...Well they weren't the most normal. Instead of having a physical problems, like a regular hospital, Violet had quickly realized that the patients here had some problems with their mental stability...

Yet again, she wondered why she was here...Maybe they wanted to make sure she was okay? She pulled on a soft lavender sweater and loose white pants while she thought. She hadn't met many of the other people here, truly avoiding them like the plague. She was completely unguarded, thrown into a place like this without any protection. It was scary...

She shook her head and sat back down on her bed, waiting for someone to come and tell her it was time for her appointment. She wasn't allowed to do much of anything without someone leading her there and telling her exactly how it was to be done...But that was just because of the other patients. Who knew what some of them would do if they just suddenly...Snapped?

She pulled out a soft page coloring book from under her bed and start to color mindlessly, humming lightly as she waited.

We Must Be The Change…

Whether it was her habit of procrastinating or the fact that her next appointment was with a case that really interested her, Mercy wasn't sure. But she did know that she could not sit through a half-hour of paper work; she really wanted to talk to this girl, Violet.

Stepping into the dormatory hallways, she could hear her patients sleeping silently. She wondered if Violet would still be asleep.

'I'll just check in on her,' she thought. 'If she's awake, I'll ask her if she wants to start early. Otherwise, I'll let her sleep.'

Opening the door, Mercy found exactly what she had hoped for. Violet was sitting on her bed, completely awake.

"Good morning, sweety," Mercy said, her voice comforting and soft. "Is that you, Violet?"

Violet looked up as she heard her door open, wondering if it was already time to see Ms. Mercy...She had thought for sure she had longer to wait...She blinked as she saw Ms. Mercy herself and smiled.

She really liked Ms Mercy, though she had only talked to her a few times, none of them being too long or about much. But she liked how nice and open the other was, making her feel somewhat safe in such a confusing situation.

"Good morning, Ms. Mercy." she said politely, wondering what she meant by 'is that you'...Of course it was her. There was only one other bed in her room, empty so far. Violet had already assumed the bed was being saved for Bella, when she was finally sent here.

"Yes, Ms. Mercy, I'm Violet." she said, nodding before sitting up, almost excitedly.

"Are you here for my appointment?" she asked, closing her coloring book. The more appointments she had, the sooner she would get out. That was the best logic she could think of, and so she followed it. Her brother had always said that people liked a cooperative person, not someone who refused to do anything.

We Must Be The Change…

Mercy smiled at the young girl. Like most of her patients, she was oblivious of her disorder. Last night, Mercy had decided that Violet was mature enough to handle the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

"Yes, I am. You're actually scheduled for a little later, but if you're ready, I'm ready!"

Violet was the type of patient that Mercy preferred. So cooperative and so sweet. She really loved getting close to patients; not only because that allowed her to treat them better, but because it was one of the many perks of her job.

Violet nodded quickly. "I'm completely ready, Ms. Mercy." she answered, pushing her coloring book to the side and sat with her legs crossed under her. She wondered what they would talk about...

Before they had just gone through the basics, Violet talking about her family, her friends, her school, what she hoped to do when she got out, which was to become a teacher, and what she did before she was sent here. She had mentioned Bella, but was afraid to say too much about her. Bella had told her that people usually didn't like her, so she had asked Violet not to talk about her.

So Violet had just said that Bella was her best friend and that she had been sleeping over when her family had died, probably the reason she was being sent to this hospital with Violet.

Violet bit her lip, glancing at the empty bed, before looking back at Ms. Mercy.

"Um...Ms. Mercy? Do you know when Bella might be getting here?" she asked, hesitate to even mention Bella, but worried that somehow she had been sent to another hospital by accident or that she wasn't coming at all. Though she knew Bella would never, ever leave her by herself, she also knew that older people had a way of keeping people like her and Bella from getting what they needed or wanted.

We Must Be The Change…

Mercy took in a deep breath. This part was the most unpredictable part of the counciling.

"Would you like her to get here now?" Mercy asked. She had taken a seat in one of the chairs in the room and was looking Violet in the eyes.

Violet blinked and struggled to understand what Ms. Mercy was getting at. She nodded slowly.

"I would love if Bella got here now..." she said, glancing at the door, breaking eye contact quickly. Maybe Bella was here? Maybe that was why Ms. Mercy had decided to have an early appointment, to give her the wonderful surprise of her friend arriving.

She looked back at Ms. Mercy, now looking hopeful instead of confused.

We Must Be The Change…

Mercy smiled at how hopeful the girl was. That was good; some personalities were known to be cruel to their alters. Violet seemed to be acting like Bella was her friend.

"First I have to explain something to you," she said. "Bella is not a real person, she's a part of you." She paused before continuing. "You have something called Dissociative Identity Disorder. Even though it might not seem like it, Bella is another girl that shares your body with you."

Violet froze on the bed and stared at Ms. Mercy. It felt as if her mind had just shut down. She could see the edges of the room turning dark and she felt dizzy. But she shook her head, struggling with thinking of words.

"Ms. Mercy...Bella is real. She's my best friend. She has been with me for...Years." she said quietly, looking at Ms. Mercy pleadingly. She tugged on a strand of her hair, looking around the room nervously, not liking how dark it was getting. It had just been morning, how was it getting so dark? She couldn't see Ms. Mercy anymore...

Something tugged at the very back of her mind and she heard, more then saw, the door open. She was filled with relief when she saw Bella come in, bringing with her light from the hallway...She smiled and relaxed. Bella would take care of everything...How could Ms. Mercy say she wasn't real when she right there? Violet leaned back on her bed, feeling better, so much better.

"Go to sleep, Vi...I'll talk to Dr. Mercy."
Bella said. Violet nodded, smiling, and closed her eyes. Bella would take of everything...When Violet woke up, she would be out of the hospital, back in school, and everything would be back to normal...

~-~

Bella stared at Dr. Mercy, eyes narrowing in anger. Dr. Mercy had upset Violet, scaring her. She didn't like the blonde doctor, she was too nosy, she didn't mind her own business. Why couldn't she and everyone else leave her and Violet alone?

She looked into the mirror hanging above Dr. Mercy's head on the wall, seeing her reflection staring back at her. She looked somewhat like Violet, but her eyes were a dark stormy blue and her hair was cut short, with jagged edges. She was relieved to see Violet sleeping in the previously empty bed and would've covered her with a blanket if they were alone...

Bella shifted, getting out of the crossed legged position and instead curled her legs behind her, looking back at the doctor, annoyed by just seeing her.

"And what makes you think that it would be wise to tell her lies?" she asked, words laced with fire.

(( That was probably just a bit confusing. Just in case, Violet did not move at all, when the room started to get darker, it was all in her head, so was Bella walking in and all her reactions. She just sat there kind of blankly staring. And Violet is not asleep on the other bed, both Bella and Violet see each other, even though they share the same body. Like, they are each other's invisible friend. Whoever has the body isn't invisible, and they see the body as their own, though they don't truly visibly change. -nod nod- ))
