"Tadaima kaerimashita."
Akiha looked around at the large room that glowed under the warm sun of the afternoon. She carried her bag to the oak desk and reclined on the plush chair. She closed her scarlet eyes and thought of the letter from her father that came to her apartment three months ago.
Dearest Daughter Akiha,
I believe my time has come to retire. I am furui, an old man, too tired to teach, and you are wakai, riko na, and jozu na; young, intelligent, and skillful. I know your difficulties with fire bonding, it is a hard subject, but don't let it slow you down. You have incredible talent with fire magic, and you've mastered more family spells than your older brother Arashi!
Alas, I cannot give you any tips on how to oshieru, teach, you learn from your own experiences. Enclosed with this letter is your train ticket to Runa High and a map of the school. All the contents in my desk will still be there except for my personal items, and a manila folder with school procedures will be in the drawer on the bottom right.
Good luck with the new school year,
Father
When she opened her eyes, the room was dark. She got up, straightened out her skirt, and snapped her fingers to release a small flame.
"Oh yeah," she thought out loud. "Night duty." She then walked down the hall to the school's dormitories, her boots making a loud echo through the halls.
