Let me start out by saying I scurried off to this guild the moment I was invited!
I was wondering if y'all checked out butyoudontlooksick.com yet. Besides it being awesome in itself, it also features The Spoon Theory, a better way of explaining illnesses. I suggest you all give it a read if possible.
If you don't have energy to read through a lot, I've summarized it in my quest thread which is also a quest thread for chronic illness awareness! It's been going since new year's day and is still going strong! Anyone can come on over and talk openly about their illnesses.
So please check out the Spoon Theory if you have time, I found it really helps when explaining to people and I keep a copy on me!
With this guild, my quest for chronic illness awareness will be even BETTER!! THANKS, you guys!!

*Makes note to check out website when she come back online later* Got to sign off soon and do some dissertation work.
As soon as I saw the word "Awareness" in your thread title I knew you'd like this place ^_^ We'll be holding our first awareness campaign in October, but it is a secret until then (mostly because Lou and myself will be properly planning it in October).
Awareness is always a good thing, me and Lou started this out of shock at how few people know about Motor Neurone Disease. And every time I go to write a new description for the "illness" section I get surprised by a new condition I hadn't heard of before.

I know! Even on Facebook and even through all my friends in the "but you don't look sick on facebook" group I still don't know half the illnesses on here! I need to read this more in-depth soon!
Half the people don't even know what IBS is and that's a very common condition! (not that it makes it any less serious/painful!)
yeah and I pounced on this guild like a BEAST. Expect to see me around like ... 24/7 ... I'll probaly end up getting annoying haha!

and yeah the girl who came up with the spoon theory is a genius.
it's a really good website overall, and even has merchandise which is just hilarious/awesome! shirts with funny/sarcastic phrases (hug me! I'm not contagious) etc. it's great.

I've used the "Spoon Theory" many times to help explain what it's like to have RSD to my children and friends. My daughters have both used the concept in school reports too, changing the spoons to forks to represent constant pain while managing energy levels and pacing oneself through the day.
