I am going on vacation soon and I think I am going to bring my rat. I plan to bring her cage in the car and for the drive I would put her in a smaller carry cage. The place I am going to is at a higher altitude and I was wondering if its okay to take rats to higher altitudes?

We had to bring her with us kuz she is still getting better from her tooth infection and we didn't wana leave her alone at home. I think she is happy that she is with me and my family ^_^

The only problem with changing altitude with small animals is popping ears. You know, like when you are going on a plane. However, you can't hand your ratty a piece of chewing gum to make it feel better. But as long as it has a good water bottle, that swallowing will do the trick. No worries. biggrin

Well her hole is better but her bone is sticking out of her chin like a horn. I am still worried and the worst part is I am not home to help take care of her. She has been at the vet all week and is slowly getting better I hope.

Well the vet FINALLY concluded that Lady Olivia had a genetic condition. She has a tooth that is growing out of her chin. We are giving her one last chance to heal. The vet is going to give her a face brace. I worry so much about her. I wish I could be there with her crying . Why have I been having such bad luck with rats lately!

Sorry for being on-topic sweatdrop
Back when I only had two rats I took my girls camping out at the beach. They slept on the car ride but they really liked being outside all the time. We had the cage on the picnic bench and they got to enjoy the sights, sounds, and smell of the beautiful little area we were in. There were some small hills between us and the ocean, so it was grassy and foresty there and protected from the harsh winds. They seemed to love it, and enjoyed all the picnic food we shared with them X3 they also enjoyed running wildly about the tent and through our blankets.
The only bad part was a thunder storm during the trip, I was worried that it would frighten them, but they didnt seem too worried about it (I think i was more scared than them ><) It got alittle cold too, but I gave them alot of good fleece nesting materials and put a towel around their cage to keep the warmpth in and it was alright.
All in all it was a great trip and they got a break from the summer heat back home!
Moral of the story: My rats enjoyed their trip, just take them!

I dunno, I had a rat I litterally took everywhere. She came with me to school even, so I think rats are good travel pets
