The wide Dungeon was ideal for Potions-making. There were no carpets, tapestries, or woodworks to be spoiled by exploding draughts, and the stone kept the environment cool, perfect for storing ingredients.
There were six tables set up facing the Professor's desk at the front of the room, and each table could fit four students. The tables were standing-height, and there were stools set up that could be sat upon and then pushed under the tables when it became time to brew the potions.
Along the walls were counters with cupboards underneath them, some containing spare copies of textbooks, others containing potions ingredients. On the counters were several cauldrons simmering with all different sorts of potions.
At the front of the room was the Professor's desk, with a small and unassuming name-card on it, reading: "Professor Jackson Krouso."
There was a tall blackboard behind the desk, and instructions were written on it:
Simple Potion of Stench 3 cups troll sweat 1 Ogre toenail 1/2 pinch salt 2 cups well water 1 Cornish Pixie wing
Bring the well water to boil and then immediately reduce until the water is simmering nicely. Add half the sweat and the toenail. Potion should turn a nasty burnt orange with pink bubbles rising off, giving a slight odor of brimstone when they pop. Simmer for two minutes before adding the salt. Stir five times clockwise and once counter clockwise. The potion should thicken up to the consistency of day old porridge. Add the rest of the sweat and bring back to a boil for about half an hour. After thirty minutes, but no more than forty-five remove the cauldron from the heat and drop in the pixie wing last of all. This should turn the potion a firey red, if it's been made correctly. Fill potion into small plastic vials and seal tight.

Luis and Addriene laughed as they came into the Potions room. Ever since the Hufflepuff was a third year, their Potions class had been together. Since Luis was a fifth year, this was the last year that they'd be in a class together until Addriene was a sixth year.
The two sat at a table near the middle of the Potions dungeon and took out their cauldrons, ready to make the Potion.
"Good morning Professor Krouso!"the two said happily.
Addriene looked up at the board and grimaced slightly when she saw the Potion that they would be making. 'Simple Potion of Stench? Eww'she thought. Reluctantly, she took out the needed ingrediants and filled her cauldron with water. Setting it to boil, Addriene laid the ingrediants out in front of her in height order. Her OCD was acting up.
Luis grinned and tried not to laugh at Addriene's incredulous face. Yes, the thought of a Stench potion did slightly turn him away, he needed this for his O.W.L.s. Professor Krouso wouldn't give it to them if it wasn't necessary.
Seeing that his potion had already come to a boil, Luis reduced the heat and let it simmer. Looking up at the blackboard, Luis rechecked the directions before adding 1 1/2 cups of troll sweat and the Ogre toenail. It turned a burnt orange, precisely as it should. Luis quirked an eyebrow at the rising pink bubbles and the smell of brimstone.
'Eww.'

Stepping into the cool dungeon behind Addriene and Luis, Makoto headed for one of the empty desks and began to set up his equipment. Glancing around, he noticed that there was to be no lecture today, which was a relief. As good as he generally was at Potions, when the Professor started to lecture it went straight in one ear and out the other. Brushing his bangs out of his eyes for a moment to get a good look at today's Potion, he winced. 'Simple Potion of Stench? How on earth is that useful? I could think of several simpler, quicker ways to create a stench...'
Nevertheless, he filled his cauldron with water and set it to boil as he carefully measured out the other necessary ingredients, placing them on the table in front of him in the order in which he would need them.

Addriene started coughing heavily when the brimstone scent rose up from her own potion. She covered her mouth as the potion probably didn't want Hufflepuff-Fourth-Year-Coughing-Spit. She let out a deep breath as soon as Luis cast a Bubblehead charm on her and himself. Addriene mouthed a thank you his way as she added a half a pinch of salt. She started stirring the potion and gagged slightly when it started to look like porridge.
Luis tried not to pay attention to the porridge look. He had hated the food substance ever since his sister Penny had decided to try and drown him in it when he was four. He closed his eyes and added in the rest of the sweat. He turned toward Addriene and tapped her on the shoulder. "Who in Merlin's name came up with this disgusting thing?"he mouthed. He smiled slightly when he saw Addriene silently laugh inside her bubblehead.

When the water in his cauldron began to boil, Makoto promptly turned down the heat, readying the toenail and troll sweat. 'Ugh, these have got to be some of the most disgusting potions ingredients I've ever had to use. I wonder what poor sot had to go and collect all this sweat...' Satisfied at the orangey-brown colour his potion had taken on, he counted the seconds in his head, pointedly ignoring the smell of brimstone now permeating the dungeon. Glancing over at the other two students, he sighed. 'They look like they're having fun...' Turning back to his potion, he quickly added a half-pinch of salt and began to stir slowly and methodically so that he wouldn't lose count. "One... Two... Three... Four... Five... And once counter-clockwise," he mumbled to himself as he stirred.

Once her potion was stewing, Addriene leaned back into the chair by her desk and reached into her bag, pulling out a dimly coloured, old book. Luis rolled his eyes when he saw it.
"How many times have you read that book, Addy?"he asked. Luis quirked an eyebrow as she only laughed from inside her bubblehead. Her copy of One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi has been thumbed through so many times. Potions and Herbology were easily her favorite classes.
Addriene stuck her tongue out at her fifth year friend. "Too many to count,"she replied. She let out another giggle when Luis rolled his eyes again and she returned to her book. Luis sighed and stared at his potion before looking down at his wristwatch 'Ten minutes to go,'he thought.

Noting that his potion had thickened, although it's consistency was not quite exactly that of day old porridge, Makoto adjusted the heat and added the remaining troll sweat to his cauldron. He then noted the time on the old wristwatch his grandfather had given him for his birthday, and settled down on his stool to wait. The watch was not a wizarding one, but an old-fashioned Muggle contraption that had to be wound every day in order to function properly. His father's father was fascinated by all things Muggle, and in fact his entire basement was filled with his collection of knickknacks and doodads, many completely useless.

Kinzo entered the room silently and made her way to one of the empty tables. She began placing her ingredients and the tools she'd need upon the desk before glancing up toward today's assignment. Simple Potion of Stench? That's an interesting choice. She didn't really mind making the potion especially since it looked like a fairly easy assignment. Hopefully the rest of the professors will be as reasonable as Professor Krouso about the first lesson. Two cups of well water poured into the cauldron before Kinzo murmured, "Incendio," to light the fire beneath her cauldron. And now we wait. The Slytherin sat down on one of the stool and pulled out a piece of parchment and a quill. She then began copying the instructions down on paper for future reference.

Selena walked into the room, a bit timidly. She didn't have many friends in the school and those that she did have were likely not in this class. She snuck to the back of the room and sat in a spot by herself. She wished she wasn't quite so shy, but she really couldn't help it.
Opening her textbook once she pulled it out of her bag, she flipped the book's pages over to the Stench potion. Getting all the necessary ingredients, she proceeded to begin. When the water had finally boiled and was simmering, she added half of the sweat and the toenail. As it bubbled, she felt sick to her stomach from the smell already. 'Even if I were to stop here, this potion is still stinky enough to qualify as a possible Potion of Stench.' she thought, trying to not gag from the atrocious odor.

Kinzo noticed her bubbling water and immediately reduced the heat acting upon it. Soon the liquid was simmering so she poured in one and one half cups of troll sweat and dropped in the ogre's toenail. The potions turned the color the directions indicated it should, to her great relief. Pink bubbles began floating upwards toward the ceiling of the room popping as they went. This ensnared Kinzo in a cloud of brimstone-scented air. How pleasant. Her nose wrinkled at the smell, but she just consulted the blackboard to continue with her work.

Makoto sighed as he checked his watch yet again. Usually, he thoroughly enjoyed Potions class, but today he just couldn't seem to get into it and wanted nothing more than to turn in his potion so he could find something more interesting to occupy his time. Brushing his bangs lightly to the side, he observed Kinzo and Selena's quiet entrances with interest. 'The redhead... She's in my year, I think...' he mused, noting her displeasure at the day's assignment. Makoto turned away, glancing at his watch. 'Another ten minutes should do the trick.'

Kinzo glance at the watch she had placed on the table exactly two minutes ago. That means it time for some salt. She grabbed half a pinch of the sodium chloride and dropped it into the cauldron. The remaining grains were brushed off onto her robes as she reached for her ivy wand. With the help a useful spell the potion was stirred to the right five times and to the left once. Now another 1.5 cups of sweat... Kinzo poured the smelly liquid into her potion. And a boiling potion. She encouraged the fire beneath her cauldron to a higher temperature and looked at her watch once more. Just another half hour. The smell of the potion was evident from both her and her fellow classmates potions. It was somewhat distracting, but she was sure she'd managed to keep herslef occupied somehow. I wonder where that book got to... The Slytherin began searching through her bag for the elusive novel as she waited for her potion to get to its next stage.

Selena waited about two minutes for the next step. During that time, she noticed someone in the room looking at her. She looked up at him, but she didn't really know him at all. But he looked away, so she figured that he had probably glanced in her direction accidently. 'Probably wondering if he can talk to my brother.' she thought bitterly.
Looking at the cauldron, she added the salt and stirred it five time clockwise and once counterclockwise, just as the directions said. The potion did thicken, though not quite to the consistency of day old porridge, maybe hour old porridge. Since it was to remain on the flame for thirty mintues, she simply pulled out her sketchpad and began to draw some random doodles, none of which really looked like anything.

Makoto quickly doused the flames beneath his cauldron, having noted that exactly thirty-five minutes had elapsed since he'd brought the potion within back to a boil. Gingerly picking up the pixie wing, he dropped it in the center of his cauldron and waited a moment before the hot liquid turned a bright orangey-red. Sighing, Makoto casually flipped his bangs out of his eyes as he carefully ladled his potion into a small plastic vial. 'Well, that didn't come out quite as well as I'd hoped...' he mused with a small frown as he stoppered the vial and took it up to Professor Krouso's desk.
After returning to his table and thoroughly cleaning his potions implements, Makoto glanced back over at the fourth year who had caught his eye earlier. She was busy doing something with a pad of paper, possibly drawing or making notes. 'Well, seeing as my work's already done, I doubt the Professor will mind me socializing,' he thought to himself as he strolled towards the back of the room. Mind made up, he went over and pulled out one of the stools across from Selena and sat down, arms folded on the table in front of him and a goofy grin on his face as he introduced himself. "Hello, name's Makoto. I know I've seen you around before, but I'm afraid I never caught your name."
