The Brotherhood Gym

Upon entering the Brotherhoods refurbished Gym you feel cool air and the smell of would be plastic which is from the new straps and belts on the weight zone and cardiovascular machines such as the treadmills and ellipticals.

from the doors there is a path about 25 feet long that leads to a desk located in the middle of the Gym. On your left of the walk way you see an assortment of cardiovascular machines ranging from a simulated rowing machine to your bicycles and treadmills and ellipticals. All these machines are facing the wall that the main enterance is located. Several Televisions are placed on the wall with frequency underneath so that exercisers may use headphones to listen to set television without it disrupting others in the gym.

On your right you see a assortment of weight lifting machines to increase muscular strength and endurance. These machines exercise every known muscle in the human body, each machine has a maximum weight of three hundred except for the leg press machine which has a limit of five hundred pounds. There are two other sections in the weight lifting area, the dead weight zone and group activity rooms.

Cardio Vascular Equipment

A assortment of Cardiovascular gear and equipment covers most of the area. Cardio equipment being the most predominant in the entire gym. A health soldier is a effective soldier. Here you can loose that flabby fat hanging over your gut and equalize yourself. Though being overweight is discouraged because it increases your odds at hear problems and being the first available meat shield.

Exercise equipment ranges from tread mills, ellipticals, stair masters, stationary bicycles and many more. Most of these machines are somewhat old, while others are makeshift or scavenged remains suck as the older bicycle machines which actually have a bike propped up with a odometer tapped to the side. Though there is only one of these in the entire gym and the machine goes by the name of ole betsy. Supposedly one of the first machines in the brotherhood gym when it was founded. The last of her kind she sits by the other machines, a small piece of history in the brotherhood.

Aside from the equipment there is cardio gear, ranging from sweat suits to ankle, wrist, and waist weights to improve carry weight capacity on the body along with the ability to help shed some extra calories while on the machines.

Muscular and Cardio Endurance Equipment

Muscular Endurance equipment is simply light weight or warm up equipment for the dead weight zone or main training for cardio endurance goers. These machines range from the smallest weight machines such as a small leg press, to a stationary row boat machine.

These machines help with the creation of new muscle tissue in the body by breaking down the old weak muscles to create new stronger muscles. These machines are the the most frequently used aside from the Cardio machines located in other area's of the Gym. These machines are also some of the safest as long as you don't stick your fingers between the weights. These machines run on simple muscle power, the weight is adjusted by yourself, the only thing that is requested is that you wipe down the machines after your done using them to prevent transfer of bacteria to another gym member through your sweat. This will also prevent the breaking down of the machines from the oils in your sweat.

Dead Weight Zone

Warning!
This area is a dangerous location due to the free weights constantly being moved around. Gym staff is located in this area to prevent accidents from happening such as suffocation from strangulation of weights, loss of limbs, or the breaking of bones. If you are struggling, do not force your body to over exert, this leads to potential or even fatal accident. If you start lifting weights that have you struggle then chances are you need to reduce the weight or should have a staff member assist you as soon as possible to prevent injury.

The machines here are all dead weight, iron and steel weights are all over this room. You set the weight yourself to push your body to it's limits. This area is covered with bench presses, punching bags, leg presses, and many more machines to increase your bodies physical strength and appearance. Also in the center of this room is a boxing ring, meant for sparing. Though sometimes on rare occasions things do get out of hand in the ring and evident proof of this is some small blood stains in the corners and middle of the mat. Staff members monitor the ring at all times breaking up the fight if it becomes to personal or gets out of hand. However personal issues that are to be "discussed": in the ring stay in the ring.

There are several rules to the ring.
1st RULE: If someone says "stop" or goes limp, taps out the fight is over.

2nd RULE: Only two guys to a fight.

3rd RULE: Only one fight at a time.

4th RULE:
No shirts, no shoes.

5th RULE:
Fights will go on as long as they have to.

Aquatic Training

Water is a precious commodity within the wastelands hence why the aquatic training facility is restricted to exercise only except for once a week where free swim is allowed. The pool is located in the rear of the gym, behind two glass double doors. The pool is at a length of 25 meters and has five swimming lanes. Shallow end of the pool is 3ft while deepest is 12ft for underwater training. Scheduled group aquatic exercises are held every Wednesday with an instructor, all you need to do is show up and be in swim attire.

This area is meant for an entire body workout, though water can easily be recycled here, the pool still needs to be refilled regularly meaning that horse play during normal hours will not be tolerated, unless on a free swim day. A life guard is there at all times, and can also teach those new to the wastelands how to swim, along with other swimming techniques.

Group Training

Group training for PRT (Physical Readiness Training) exams and tests are held regularly with Veteran members of the brotherhood mainly those that serve in the Military Police and Infantry. These people are here to push the brotherhood and keep them in top physical shape, when it all comes down to it if you run out of bullets and batteries you resort to your trusted blade and/or bare fist. Group training also extends out to specialized training for certain groups, and example infantry may be trained in the aquatics area to test how long they can hold their breath. This training is useful if one is either trapped underwater or they must pass through a area with harmful or toxic fumes and they lack proper equipment.

Physical Therapy sessions for crippled or injured service members are used all the time. Service members that wish to recover from a injury that that has disabled them such as being disabled from the waste down they can began therapy training to regain the connection to the severed nerves. These sessions are held with doctors and or nurses who supervise those wishing to regain former movements in areas of the body.

Recreational Sporting Area's

There areseveral recreation sporting area's in the gym.

The good old game of Racquetball still exists to this day as a recreational activity for some of our competitive brotherhood members. There are three courts located on the south western area of the gym. Equipment for these area's must be checked out from the front desk and returned there as well. This is to ensure that the equipment is not stolen and if any damage is caused to the equipment can either be repaired or replaced. Safety goggles are also issued and required when playing this game.

Outside of the Brotherhood gym right behind the pool the area has been cleared and the area reassembled. A old sport known as Volleyball can be played here, where players hit a ball over a seven foot high net onto the other side. However the ground played on is not dirt, it has been replaced with sand as to add a small safety barrier when players dive for the ball. This area is somewhat shaded by a tinted roof as to prevent the sand for the volleyball court from becoming excessively hot.

The third recreational activity is a basketball court located inside and next to the dead weight zone. This is a competitive area as well where two groups of players can dribble a ball back and forth across a wooden floor. Basketballs are kept in the basketball court and are to be picked up and put away when your activity is done.

For those of you who enjoy music and exercise we have managed to recreate a spinning class located next to the racquetball courts. However the machines used for this type of exercise and recreational program are limited to ten machines excluding the instructors. This class is held at different times of the day, where you follow an instructors directions while riding on a stationary bike, the intensity of the work out varies with the class at that time.

Locker Rooms

There are two locker rooms, one for Males one for Females. I am aware that co-ed showers are available in the barracks, but here we respect a privacy rule. Not every man or woman feels comfortable showering with the opposite gender. let alone be harassed or stared at while changing into or out of uniform. Both locker rooms have an entrance in the main gym and to the pool. It is recommended that you wear footwear when walking around the locker room due to the dirt and grime carried on the sole of someones boot.

Both locker rooms contain toilets, lockers, sinks, showers, private showers, and a Dry Sauna. Each locker room holds three personal showers for those who do not feel comfortable for showering in front of anyone else.

The dry sauna is exactly that, a sauna in a wooden chamber heated to a certain temperature. This area is an excellent place to relax after working out in the gym. The rocks in this sauna are NOT to have water put on them as it will damage the heater beneath it. Anyone who breaks this rule will be removed from the gym for a period of time, and the sauna will be closed to everyone until a given time. One persons mistake effects everyone else, don't screw it up.

On the side of the gym, slightly behind the building from the main quad of the bunker complex, a ring of sand dominated. It was the wee hours of the morning as Azure arrived to practice. He had called out a fellow Senior Squire, York, to spar against. Azure held York highly, as they were the only two at the same rank, and they both held considerable fighting prowess. Azure began stretching as he waited for York to show up.

His golden hair, bleached from its usual bluish-gray, flailed about on his head, untamed. It was held somewhat in check from consuming the rest of his head by a dark black bandanna, sprinkled with tiny white dots. His eyes were protected against the harsh wasteland sun by obsidian colored sunglasses, an upgrade from the olive colored sunglasses he used to wear.

He wore a light, achromatic scarf, which covered his mouth and draped off the side of his body. It was long and reached down to his knees. He enjoyed the scarf for its ascetic quality more than its functionality. His armor was that of a basic recruit, a basic leather vest, similar to Kevlar but not as effective. He rounded out his look with a pair of pants, similar in color to his glasses. His boots had been modified for wasteland travel by the instillation of a metal sole and toe tip. His overall outfit had been upgraded since he was no longer an initiate.

York approached Azure with a smirk on his face. York, who had arrived late, wore a pair of digital camouflage pants which were barely visible due to his knee-high, black boots. He sported a tight-fitting, white t-shirt as well, overtop of which was a long, black vest that reached just below his waist. A pair of sunglasses covered his eyes, though the sun had just recently slid into view on the horizon and created very little light. The only weapon York had was a combat knife that hung from his combat belt in a sheath.

"I apologize for my lateness," York said to Azure as he stopped in front of his fellow Senior Squire. "It took me a little longer to get ready than I'd originally estimated. Anyway, I'll be ready to begin in just a few moments. Did you sleep well, friend?"

York took off his sunglasses and placed them on the nearby table. He then began stretching, as he hadn't had a chance to do so in his rush to be on time.

Azure shook his head.

"I don't sleep much."

He stated as his relatively bloodshot eyes could be barely seen through his glasses. He thrust out his right arm and flexed his hand. His left arm drew back with the same flexing of the hand. Eventually they both formed into fists for a moment. Then he returned to his original standing position and went back to stretching.

"I have not been in combat for some time... I have just been wasting away on this damnable base."

"Heh! I too have not had the pleasure of experiencing true combat in some time," York muttered as he sat down and executed the odd-looking but important butterfly stretch, which stretched his groin muscles. York then stood up and took a few deep breaths. He swallowed and looked at Azure. "Ready?" York inquired.

Before Azure could respond, York placed his left foot in front of his right and placed his right foot at a forty-five degree angle, thus beginning to take a combat position. He did not, however, raise his arms yet.

Azure pushed his glasses up his nose slightly and then mimicked York's stance. The difference between the two was that Azure had his left arm out across his torso like a shield and his right arm resting in a position above his right leg. It seemed most likely that he had set himself up to pivot off his left leg and thrust his right leg and right arm forward to deliver a punch. However, even though he was in a combat position, he didn't look like he would try to make the first move.
