Has anyone had a doctor they've wanted to smack? Or a pharmacist? Do you feel like ranting about it?
I ask this because my mom just had a major battle with this demonic woman from the Walmart pharmacy. There was some sort of drama over "Well, it's late." My mom had shown up two weeks earlier, when it was written, and they said she had to wait two weeks. And now they refused to refill it! 'Course, while my mom was discussing this with her, she neglected to mention that she couldn't refill my mom's OTHER TWO medications without explicit approval from her doctor. That could have happened at that moment, but no, the woman didn't tell us. My mom didn't realize this until six that night, and then the woman from the pharmacy was refusing to accept it had anything to do with her.
So... now we're heading to Alaska for a week, and my mom with Fibro and anxiety will be unmedicated. Greeaaat. And we've had a lot of run ins with the same devil woman before, all equally stupid. (She once told my mom it was impossible to sign up for something online when my mom had done it the night before, and then when they figured it out they almost deleted her account scream )
I also have my own epic tale of doctors being really inconsiderate, but we're leaving soon. Anyone like to share?

Your mom should go to Walgreens. My mom is a pharmacist, and from what I hear, Walgreens customer service is waay better than Walmart. Then again, I'm probably prejudiced.
Just, please keep in mind that many stores are busy, and pharmacists are often stressed out. :33 Being nice to them often makes their life a teeny bit easier.
I have a really long story about a doctor crushing my dreams, but I'm having a hard time typing right now, so the story will be told later, most probably in several parts.
Thank you very much for creating this thread. (:

Ooooh I had a reallly awful Doctor once! My normal GP was on holiday so I was referred to her temp replacement. I had a really painful, itchy rash on the back of my legs and was 99% positive that it was eczema as I've had it since I was 2, and at this point I was 11.
So my Mum took me to this doctor who said it was a "fungal skin infection" and rather than give me steroid cream said I had to have antibiotics. 2 weeks later and I was back as they hadn't done anything at all, not one single thing. "Oh it's not fungal then, have some stronger antibiotics".
Another 2 weeks and by now it was a lot worse and more painful so Mum phoned up and insisted that I be given an appointment with a different doctor. Go in, show him my legs, "Ah Akibe, your eczema is taking it to a new level I see" rolleyes
Really wanted to go back and smack the first doctor but I didn't.

Akibe;; I've had stubborn doctors, too. Usually, I measure a doctor by whether or not he or she listens to my observations and theories, and how willing the doctor is to consult other people. It usually works.
Except the one fatal mistake I made when I was in seventh grade. I still hold a giant grude against the doctor who screwed up my back. I'm writing the story in MS word right now, and it is loong. x'D Sorry in advance.

When I was six months old, before I was diagnosed with CYSTIC FIBROSIS, my first doctor diagnosed me with...
...
An ear infection.

MM- OMG that's horrific! Although I can understand the balance problem, I'm just curious to know how not finding the 2nd tumour was the dodgy doctor's fault, were they meant to do more tests/scans after the first one was removed to check there were no secondaries?
Ree- Yeah there are several stories in the UK where a child gets taken in to hospital with suspected meningitis and the doctor tells them it's in ear infection or the flu, only to find it was meningitis and the child ends up dying or severely disabled.
Some doctors are really awesome, some are really egotistical, and some are very over-worked.

Akibe;; The second tumor infarcted as a result of my second surgery. >.> If we went with...a better doctor originally, I don't think it would have ever been a big problem. The good doctors think the blood supply to a part of the tumor was cut during the operation.
No one knew it was even there. D: We used to treat this disease by symptoms - if something was causing a problem, we'd get rid of it. But many tumors are now growing in places surgery isn't practical. Hence, the experimental chemotherapy.
I now have full spine MRI's about every two years. It's annoying - about three hours total. But the data is very useful. The doctors noticed the one hundred or so tumors in my L-spine, thankfully all small.
There's one tumor that may cause walking problems - my foot is already turning numb - but I'm hoping to start chemo before it grows more.
Ree;; It took about two years of really annoying tests to find out what was wrong with me. I think one doctor said that it was normal. Dx
Another thought it was just a skin anomaly. >>

Well, my mother /loathed/ one of my grandmother's doctors. I'm not really sure what happened, she said that he assumed the thing on the CAT scan was nothing to worry about, but it later turned out to be cancer.
I had a second cousin die from cancer, my mom claimed to recognize the signs and the doctor denied it. Said they should wait, and it shouldn't cause any harm.
She made him cry, seriously.

Oh, I hate those doctors.
I generally irritate them completely by muttering about lawsuits after the appointment, and asking for doctors who could give second opinions.
And then I never go back. ...or go to the doctors whose names I asked for, actually.
My mom recently discovered something wrong with her leg, and the doctor she visited said nothing was wrong. But, as it sometimes hurts, that's obviously untrue. So we're trying to figure out what causes skin to thin...or something like that. It was a big relief once we verified that it wasn't cancer.
That doctor didn't even seem to care about anything other than her paycheck. D<

First was having an ortho walk into the room the first time my daughter (then age 9) had ever been to him and before he even introduced himself saying she needed hip surgery immediately. Ended up being 2 years later before she had to have it done and then it was done at our request rather than a have to situation. This same dr. sat with us and aimed every question at my husband - I would answer the question, he would listen then turn to my husband and ask the same exact question again until my husband gave him the same answer I did. Finally my husband told him " ask her mom! she is with her 24/7 not me!" This happened with another dr as well! I never had this problem in IL but OK loves to treat women like they are total idiots.
We also had a dr this one in IL for her bladder problems who insisted on treating every tiny bit of bacteria that showed up in her urine which resulted in her be resistant to most antibiotics when she has an infection.
then if you want to add in the phlebotomist who insist on digging in her arms for veins that immediately collapse and have no sympathy. I could go on and on but I think that gives you an idea.

I have minor spina bifida and hydrocephalus so I get chronic headaches and back aches.
My family doctor has became an ornery twit. I missed a week during my grade 9 year and went to him to start some kind of treatment (meds/PT or something at least)...
He just turns to me after I give him my symptoms and says "Do you like school?" I almost hit him. D=
My mom went to him to do with her arthritis in her arm & neck and he says something about weight loss. Then she went back again to get an X-Ray, and he just says that she needs to do more physical activity. What the heck?

I have had a few bad doctors. My GP pretty much sucks, he is overworked since no other doctors in the area are taking patients. I was referred to a rhumetologist who only looked at my blood tests and said I didn't have arthritis, but never looked at the Xrays or my body.
Then I too around age 11, had an orthopaedic surgeon who said I'd need hip surgery so my mom took me and up and left.

Well, I have a few stories, but the second to last time I was in the hospital was the most recent time I got really annoyed at everyone. It was just bad all around, which was suprising because it was a big university hospital, not the little local place, and usually I have good experiences there....well as good as you can have sitting in the hospital.
Anyway, I arrived on time for my procedure, but it took them FOREVER to get me ready. I sat just waiting for HOURS and then they kept trying to get an IV started. this is always a problem w/ me, I'm a "hard stick" but this was bad, took 3 different people trying. Then, even after they got the IV started, they had to start sticking me again, trying to get blood for a blood test...keep in mind they are just getting around to my blood work now, and it's 3 hours after my time for the ERCP....When transport can for me the nurses hadn't even given me a gown to put on yet, the transport guy had to stand there an wait while I got dressed...
I went to Procedures and went out OK and all, but when I woke up in Recovery, someone told me the procedure didn't work! I was still kinda out of it...but in a lot of pain...and COLD. But I couldn't get the nurses to give me a blanket, let alone pain meds. Finally I got a blanket, but they didn't want to give me anything for the pain...
I'm laying in Recovery, and the nurses are just hanging around chit chatting, ignoring the patients and discussing GAY MARRIAGE for everyone to hear. Now, I believe in free speech, but free speech does not mean you should talk about what ever you want in ANY situation, and this was a pretty inappropriate conversation. The one guy was going on about how gays shouldn't get married, marriage is only between a man and a woman, blah blah blah, and then this woman starts in about how back in her country, gay men are set on fire and lesbians are gang raped by the male villagers!!! I had to just lay there freezing & in pain listening to that nonsense.
Now I notice that they have put a second IV in my other hand while I was out. Its bandaged and the bandage is all bloody. dried blood is also running down my fingers. My WRIST on my other hand is also bandaged...I guess they tried to get in there too, but no one ever told me what happened or why they did that. but by the time those IVs cam out my right hand was totally swelled up.
So, I'm a diabetic. And now, I realize it's 5 in the afternoon, and I have been fasted since the day before! So I start calling for the nurse and tell her, someone has to check my blood sugar! It takes a while, but they find a blood glucose meter, and take my blood, it's about 80. So I tell her, I need something for my sugar, and she tells me I can't have anything cause I am in recovery....I can have some juice when I go back to same day. When ever they get around to sending me there.
When I finally do go back I did get some juice, but no one had notified my family I was back. it took them an hour to find them and let them know I was asking for them. Still no blanket, but I did get pain meds. LOTS of pain meds. I could barely see straight.
My doctor NEVER came to see my family or me. They sent a "fellow" I asked what happened, and he told me "we didn't have the right equipment" and when I asked if the old stent was still in place he told me "no, you POOPED it out" My doctor didn't talk to me and clarify things until 5 DAYS LATER.
I was sent home WITH NO PAIN MEDS, before they could even tell if I was keeping down food. I spent that night vomiting and in pain. I was pissed. scream
