When you think about characters in "Trigun", do you see them as heterosexual, or is there some character relationship subtext that is being missed?

I think it's rather obvious that Legato is gay. XD

and @ Bloo- I agree with you on that, Knives prolly never would do anything with Legato.

I think the Knives/Legato relationship is more of a BDSM power exchange, with all of the sexuality subliminated into bondage/service/humiliation. Especially in the manga, when Legato is locked in the iron maiden thing, eating with his face directly on the plate because his head is the only thing sticking out of the sarcophagus. And handing out half coins to the Gung-Ho Guns with his tongue ... yeuuck!!

To all you saying that the Trigun characters are gay....... You're stupid and you're smoking crack. Legato COULD be gay, but I can't help but feel that, like the rest of the Trigun characters....... They just don't date in general.

They're not heterosexual, they're certainly not gay........ They're actually a little asexual.

Allow me to explain:

Vash: Has probably dated women in the past, but probably doesn't any more. Remember, he admits that he's shy about his scars. And in the manga, he has a chance to sleep with a woman, says no, and later says that that was probably more than he deserved....

So, what's with his funk?

Simple... He loves his mommy.

Yep. Sorry, fangirls, but Vash is still struggling over Rem's teachings and her death to actually take the time to move on to another woman. And let's not forget, Vash lives a nomadic lifestyle... He doesn't WANT another woman. Yes, he's a father figure to girls like Lina and Jessica, who both live in two of his "homes", which he routinely returns to, but that's it.

And........ I do believe he is fond of Meryl.

In the anime, they sort of start developing feelings for each other at the cartoon's end, but until then, Meryl is mostly just bitchy to him. In the manga though, this is much, MUCH different. Meryl has a VERY different past and personality... An adventurer and nomad herself, it seems she's not much of a crowd person, but she CLEARLY has feeling for Vash. Zazie the beast in vol. 4 himself says, "does he always make you get this excited?"...

As for how Vash feels about her... I think he knows she "digs" him, and he probably understands this, but doesn't want her to get involved with him, due to the danger involved.

So you have a weird, "connection with no connection thing going on"... And I'll admit, I want to see something HAPPEN to these two. I have a lot in common, personality wise, with Vash, and Meryl is the type of girl I would like, so I wanna see some action.

Guess I'll just have to see what happens in vols. 13 and 14.

Knives: Nope. Nothing. No time for it. Although Elendira probably has a big crush on him.

Wolfwood: In the anime, Wolfwood and Milly have a connection from the moment they meet. But since anime Wolfwood doesn't count, let's talk manga Wolfwood.

Let's see..... Was taken from his orphanage home when he was, I wanna say, 12, was trained as an assassin for a number of years, and basically lived a life of violence from that moment on. And since he's had a secluded lifestyle, and he's barely over eighteen years old, I doubt he's had ANY previous experiences with women on a Romantic scale........

So, what you're looking at, is a horribly self-esteemed, mentally and physically wreaked, lost boy.... And having read the manga a million times, he's not interested in a relationship of ANY kind.....

Livio: Ah yes........ Livio has a relationship with Jasmine. But it's not a romantic one. Hell, she didn't even recognize him in vol.11. She only knew him as a child, and he killed her puppy, so she probably doesn't think of him very fondly.

But for him, she's the most sacred thing he has... Because she gave him the gift of a warrior's heart.

Livio could maybe one day have a relationship with another woman, but it'd probably be very awkward for him. Why would he want that when he already has an eternal love for Jasmine?.... Doesn't make sense.

Legato: The funny thing about Legato is that, yes, he probably is gay. However, his loyalty to Knives is not so much man-love as it is the closest thing that Legato can give as love.

Think about it: Legato doesn't have much of a personality. Much like a good buisnessman, he's only concerned with acheiving the ends of his buisness of maintaing the Gung-Ho-Guns, tormenting Vash, and proving his loyalty to Knives..........

At all other times, he's a psychotic b*****d who dreams of killing people. And since he was sodomized as a child, and he hates all of humanity, I can't but help feel like it's only natural he would look down upon romance of any sort, sex or otherwise.

And so, you see, most of the Trigun fellows lean on the asexual side of heterosexuality.......

I can put together boy-girl relationships just fine.
But I enjoy doing boy-boy more.
