Okay, I have one HUGE dent in my head joint, and four or five smaller ones along my head joint and middle joint. Some of these feel like they're popping OUT not IN for some unexplainable reason. Can I get these fixed? And will they affect my playing? By the way, the HUGE one is near my tuning slide on my headjoint, on the bottom. (opposite side of the lip plate) Thanks in advance!

most dents are fixable, though with mine there were still some scrathes left on the flute when I got a dent out sweatdrop But yeah take it to an instrument repair place, and they can get it fixed up for you! ^^

Above post says it all. Even the really small ones are usually fixable, which I was surprised about when I had my flute overhauled last year. I would imagine they could affect your playing, but I haven't had any really big dents in my flute...ever. XD

if you get the dents fixed it will affect your sound. The instrument will sound different (I dont know how much. I just remember my band director when I was in high school telling us that you shouldn't put dents in your instrument and if you do, just leave them. They will change the sound.)

I seem to remember hearing somewhere that they shouldn't effect the sound, but when I think about it, it doesn't make that much sense. The way the flute works has a lot to do with the way that the air goes through it. I don't think small dents make much of a difference. I got a small one in my flute recently and didn't notice a difference. Although I would think that larger ones would probably change the sound a bit. I've had dents gotten rid of before so as other people have said take your flute to a good repair person if you haven't already done so. Or you can just leave them if they don't seem to be affecting your sound.

the air vibrates through the flute. the vibration will be affected by the dents, causing the flute to have a different sound. may not be a big difference but there will be one. obviously you cant compare the sound from before it was dented and after it was dented but the sound will be different. and if the dent is popped back out, it will still have a little bit of a different sound. This is the same with all instruments. Not just the flute
