Cildrean Soldier has returned, so we should be getting back into the business of promoting and expanding Alexandria. Cildrean has been a primary factor in maintainnig this guild during its early phases, and it has probably doubled in size since he left.

Our current goal is to align with Parapsychology and literacy groups, in an objective to promote the power of the mind in both its natural and supernatural aspects. We are expected to encourage a positive atmosphere for the development of Reason and Intuition. While we do not expect anyone to automatically and


mindlessly accept any subject as Fact like sheep, we do hope that our members will take the time to have both an open mind and conservative (as opposed to self destructively wanton) approach from both sides, of not only what they have begun to study, but also what they have studied in the past.

We have begun a major overhall of this Guild. In the previous months, we have been gaining aproximately 2 members every few days, at the same time we lose one. This is a strange form of progress, and it indicates that about 50% of the people are reading page one and then quitting when they get inside. To avoid such confusion, I''ve decided to strip the "roleplay" elements from the front page.

Why? because no one really roleplays in here anyway. If you have a desire to generate an RP in Alexandria, we are not opposed, however, we will not continue to claim to be an RP center when little to no discussion about RP takes place here.

Instead, we are better off functioning as a Resource center for roleplayers to come and work out their disputes, as well as study the original Subjects. This is not a permanent transition, it is merely the current transition. When more people provide more feedback and a sense of direction, it will not be necessary to make drastic changes.

Due to the massive copywrite buy out of various websites and extexts, on the part of Walt Disney Pictures, I have been unable to locate a complete etext copy of the Chronicles of Narnia. It may be that we must wait several more years for his texts to become available for free, however, as the man lived from 1898-1963, it has been 42 years since he died. It looks like it will be another 18 years before the SCrewtape letters become public venue and another 27 years before the Chronicles of Narnia are released.
If someone has found a legal method of hosting those works, I''ll pay 1000 gold for each of the 8 chronicles (8k in all) to anyone who can acquire a legal hotlink to them.
Alice In wonderland will be added tommorrow. (May 16th), along with the works of HG Wells and HP Lovecraft. Thank you for your support.

While updating the Library of Alexandria (we are at 24 texts now), it occured to me that it would be interesting to do an image map book shelf at the top of each page, each shelf would be represented, and on each shelf the 12 books would also be represented, the books when clicked would yield the actual etexts that their bindings contained, adding a further "virtual layer" to the Library. If you like this idea, or are willing to help out/improve it, let me know - Noire

cilldreansoldier announced his vacation from Gaia, and his last days before enlisting the Military. He is expected to be gone for aproximately 14 weeks or so, which means we should be able to expect him back around the end of July to Early August. He goes by Merc, and has been a tremendous help in the Guild during its formative seasons and has been there through Thick and Thin. He will be missed, and we hope to see him soon. This message is also posted and dated so in the event that his account drifts into oblivion, a Moderator at a future point in time may be able to recover his existence from the Archives.

Well, I''ve since moved, set up again, and we are back in Business. 3nodding We are going to be doing several alliances over the next weeks, we are at 113 members as of this entry, and plan on expanding even further.

If you paid attention to the Gambino Sky scraper, then you have an idea of how much money it will cost us to really set up base. Someone said they put 400k into it, and it moved by an 8th. eek

This tells us if we are planning on getting anywhere, we are going to need something in the range of 2-3.2 million gold. gonk

of course, we are a bit farther ahead than several other guilds, and I promise I will do everything in my power to enhance the financial reserves of the Guild, even if I have to sell my most valuable items to do so. heart

We''ve gotten another offer for a tournament, this one sounds like its in an actual guild, so there will be be at least some level of moderation. Our objective, if we shoul decide to enter this tournament, is not to win, but to evaluate the guild hosting it, to see if they would make a good addition to the network.

So be on your best behavior, and remember, we aren''t there to win, we are there to scout. ninja

Next announcement: Foreign Language Club I''m placing Silver (the girl fluentin Hebrew) in charge of the Network Foreign Language Club, and having Koji act as an active Moderator. As soon as it is created, it will become a sticky. Koji is fairly good with Japanese including Kanji.
As you know, those are both considered among the "top 10" of hardest languages to learn. The Purpose of the foreign language club is similar to the Martial Arts thread, but more relaxed- feel free to chit chat in there, just don''t "spam" with bumps and so forth. Bumping guilds is pointless.

We will begin setting up our Hall of Fame, complete with artwork depicting those characters as Statues and so forth, even with "whole team sculputures" as soon as 10 characters are registered. Every 10 characters, we will add someone to the Hall of Fame, until August, at which point, it will be once a month review in the Board room.

Again, - for every gold coin you donate that puts us past 350k total (we are at 334k) I''ll match it from now until the end of Valentines'' Day.

Finally: There''s a variety of Valentine''s Day events happening tommorrow. I''m going to pay 5,000 gold to anyone who can create a special project valentine by the end of that day... its an art project on behalf of the Network for an Avatar Devotion, so be prepared.

The Term "memberlist" has been changed to "Member Directory"


WALK THROUGH of how the Member Directory works.

STEP 1
gather 3 or more crew members through private messages.

STEP 2
have each of these people post in a new thread called " Board meetings"
for roll call. Only crew may post in this board meeting. Non crew posts will be deleted without warning.

Step 3
the person who started the meeting brings up a single name, or list of names. These are names of characters from existing threads.

Step 4
The members who are present review the character sheet. A Character sheet is a profile, a stat sheet, a record, whatever, its not important. When all crew members present approve the character, move to step 5.

Step 5
The final approved character sheet, possibly with some editing such as changing

"becomes invincible demon"
to
"becomes nearly invincible demon"

is THEN, copy pasted into the "Member Directory" sticky, which remains locked to general audiences to avoid tampering.

Step 6
The master member list for multiple page indexes, is updated to tell you what page which character record is on. This should be in Alphabetical order, perhaps subdivided into "male / female" characters.



FAQ
Can you post your character sheet in the Directory without a board meeting?
A: No. It will be deleted.

Do you need to have Michael Noire present at the Board meeting?
A: No. I am not necessary.

Should you delete your Board meeting threads when complete?
A: if the information or discussion is very sensitive, then yes. All board meetings discussing the character acceptance of Crew and Captain will be deleted for their protection.

Are the Crew Member characters already approved?
A: No. Even my own character is not approved at this time (01/18/05)

"I Have A Dream"

Twenty four months ago, a great Gaian, in whose symbolic shadow we stand set up Gaia. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Neopet slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of captivity. But two years later, we must face the tragic fact that the MMORPG is still not free.

Two years later, the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination still sadly cripple the life of the role-player. Two years later, the Newbies live on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. Two years later, the literate RPer is still languishing in the corners of Gaian society and finds himself an exile in his own land.
So we have come here today to dramatize an appalling condition. In a sense we have come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our Network wrote the magnificent words of the home page preamble and the Various Stickies, they were signing a promissory note to which every Gaian was to fall heir.

This note was a promise that all people would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is obvious today that Gaia has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her literate citizens are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, Gaia has given the people a bad check which has come back marked "insufficient funds." But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this community.

So we have come to cash this check -- a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom from stupidity and the security of justice in the face of godmoding munchkins. We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind Gaia of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of cliques to the sunlit path of social justice. Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to everyone. Now is the time to lift our Forum from the quick sands of Nepotism to the solid rock of brotherhood.

It would be fatal for the Network to overlook the urgency of the moment and to underestimate the determination of the members. This sweltering summer of the Network's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Two thousand-five is not an end, but a beginning. Those who hope that the members needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the Forum returns to business as usual. There will be neither rest nor tranquility in Gaia until the Network is whole.

The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our Forum until the bright day of justice emerges. But there is something that I must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for greatness by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.

We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into OOC violence and godmoding. Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting the Brutality of Ignorance with the Meekness of Truth.
The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Network's community must not lead us to distrust of all oldbies, for many oldbies, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny and their future is inextricably bound to our future.

We cannot walk alone. And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall march ahead. We cannot turn back. There are those who are asking the devotees of suggestion threads, "When will you be satisfied?" we can never be satisfied as long as our minds, heavy with the fatigue of godmoding enemies, cannot gain rank in the guilds of the GGN and the threads of the Barton Town. We cannot be satisfied as long as the Network upgrade is from a smaller guild to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as a Member in Gaia cannot do proper battle and an Oldbie in believes he has nothing for which to fight. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.

I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow threads. Some of you have come from areas where your quest for justice left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive.

Go back to Fighter's Guild, go back to Lu Bu Dojo, go back to Ninja Academy, go back to Libero Mafia, go back to the slums and ghettos of our forgotten threads, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed. Let us not wallow in the valley of despair. I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the Gaian dream.

I have a dream that one day this Network will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: In any endeavor, our objective should be, in that whatever we are sent to do, to do it well." I have a dream that one day on the red hare of Lu Bu the sons of former Newbies and the sons of former Oldbies will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the Kuruda Coliseum, a small guild, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my "Adopt a Newbie" recruits will one day live in a Forum where they will not be judged by the number of posts but by the content of their characters. I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day the state of the Gaia Battle System, whose programmer's lips are presently silent with the words of encouragement and secrecy, will be transformed into a situation where chibi black mages and white mages will be able to join hands with chibi necromancers and paladins and fight together as team members and tournaments. I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day every valley shall be digitized, every hill and mountain shall be made treacherous, the rough places will be made dangerous, and the crooked places will be made like mazes, and the glory of the Guild shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

This is our hope. This is the faith with which I return. With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our Forum into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to poll together, to struggle together, to go broke together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

This will be the day when all of us will be able to log in with a new meaning. And if Gaia is to be a great Forum, this must become true. When we log in, when we role-play well, and recruit from every thread and every sub-forum, from every sticky and every Guild, we will be able to speed up that day when all of Gaia, Newbies and Oldbies, Moderators and Members, Young and Old, will be able to join hands and sing that old theme:

Working on various ideas with a certain guild who's Knights will reamin nameless. One of our objectives is to get past page 2. eek

Noire Financial Plan

Hi! I thought I would do a debriefing of our current financial situation.

As you may know, the Network is on the botton half of the top 20 most wealthy guilds in Gaia. You might also be aware that the Captain of the Network has some big plans in the future.

In the united states there is a president Bush who wants to change their social security/welfare plan to a "invest your own taxes". The way this plan is designed, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer.
The plan entails taking a portion of your retirement benefits and investing them in the stock market, under certain fortune 500 companies, "diamonds" and "spiders". (diamonds and spiders are interconnected investments covering several companies).

Again, this makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. Thankfully, for the network, we are already "well to do". I wont say "rich" for that invites the path of destruction.

In any event, I've taken it upon myself to invest 97% of my resources into this Guild, and before I mindless dump al lthe money into it, I've been investing. Our capital Gains look something like this:

Original Investment projection: 100k.
Total earned assets: ~85k-125k

Normally, this would yield 185k-225k...

However, through the sake of investing, this value is sitting at between 390k and 450k, rapidly approaching the 500k boundary. In 72 hours alone, we have seen a 52% increase in our total assets of investment.

Currently our guild account sits at a happy 335k. With the current liquidation, this value would yield 725k, just under 3 quarters of a million.
This should explain more completely my sudden "stop" on dumping money into the guild.

In the meantime, I would like to request that if you have not donated, and have the resources, please donate exactly 1000 gold to the guild; or what you can to "fudge" the number to a round value for those who cannot afford to donate 1000 gold.

The current value we are competing with is 374,314 gold; from the Fruits Basket Guild.

Notes: The richest guild in Gaia by a large margin, Staple had his own guild at around 3 million gold for a while which came close, but it apepars to have vanished without a trace. Secret Society was sponsored primarily (5 million worth) by a naked maniac claiming to be the richest man in Gaia. It is rumored that either they have something in the works, or that the actual members and owners have simply logged off or forgotten they were members.

Conclusions: not counting the staple360 mess and the Shem typo, we are actually at 6th place, and if I were to push our investment today, we would be in a technical position of 4th place.

the outline of Alexandria will become more apparent when time moves forward. in order for a roleplay to work, you must be able to kill people. even if no one ever dies, if the element (of mortality) is not present, then you have to remove mortality from ALL characters and change the reality.

needless to say, our current goals include:
24 Districts
320 members
480,000 in the Treasury.

our future goal will resemble Camelot or Atlantis, in many respects, part of our Symbol will include a Phoenix, representing Rebirth and Resurrection. Our method of waging War with be the Pen, and the Mirror.

We will create with the Sword, but we must also remember the sheath.

So how can I be more helpful?


... give yourself an agenda: donate either 1000 gold or 1 member each day you are online, and the guild cannot fail. We have 135 members now, if each member donated just 1000 gold, only once, they would push the City of Alexandria into the 470,000 range.. clearly you can see how close that is to 480,000

this will become more obvious as to why in minute.

Alexandria represent a city and a central empire. The associated Guilds represent Districts. In this respect, it represents a central trade port. A Neutral Ground. United Nations and the Mediterrainian ports at the same time.

Nevetheless, Alexandria itself is going to need city guards. These men and women must be able to handle themselves. Our minimum requirements are roughly the equivelent of 2000 replies or 40,000 gold in total assets (clothes etc.), though we would apreciate more powerful persons. Why?

Phase II:
Recruiting them: thousands of years ago, the ruler of Israel commanded that 1000 men who were able, and at least 20 years old, from each of the 12 tribes, would form the Israeli army.

Based upon this principle, I would like to acquire one Warrior from Each of the Districts of Alexandria. Each of these people would then be organized together, and have their own meeting hall (thread in the Guild). They would wander the city, maintaining Justice.

They would be Centurions of Alexandria, the representatives of a hundred men.

time would pass, - as it always does, and there would be campaigns which make missions seem mockeries. It would be the duty of the Centurions to individually gather and lead a Batallion of soldiers into war, on these campaigns.
Upon successfully gathering such a force, and having begun the campaign, the Centurions will be promoted to the Rank of General.
And if the campaign is proven successful, then the General will be promoted to the Title of Knight.

The Knight themselves, would be given crew status in Alexandria. You know however, that in order to be Crew you have to represent a Guild, correct? Well, in the event that the General doesn't already have a guild, we, Alexandria, will buy them a Guild, which itself, will expand our borders.

This guild will be paid for out of the treasury, though occassionally attained through the spoils of war or contracts. (happens a lot in the captians guild actually). The beginning membership of this new guild will consist of the General as captain, and the soldiers who waged war, as crew. they and their friends and family, invited, will flesh out the guild's membership, and represent another territory.

Naturally, by representing another territory, the Empire of Alexandria is expanded once again, and we thus require a Representative Soldier from these new guilds, for the next order of Centurtions.

Naturally, since the old centurion is Now crew, and a Knight-General, we can no longer have them bothered with the duties of a common soldier, so their original, foster Guild, will also have to send a replacement.

Financial & District Updates


April 23rd
Currently, we are sitting at aproximately 603,000+ in investments which would place us at around 938,000 as a technical guild account.

We have 17 districts covering aproximately 1,577 citizens. We have established a Knights promotion plan, and desire to go forward with this plan by the 24th district. Currently we are holding off on district expansion until our Technical membership numbers increase, and we are looking into various methods of enhancing our popularity.
The Fighter's guild has re opened its Guild, and we will be looking into assisting FMA in its growth. Makenshi's Kitsune clan has been rebuilt, and Peppa has gotten himself married.
