One night, an explosion is seen in the far off east, and after the explosion, a huge pillar of light could be seen from thousands of miles away. The explosion sent many shock waves through the earth, destroying many towns, and a couple of cities. In one village, while they are repairing, a group of soldiers ride into town.
Jea'Den watched the soldiers from the safety of the nearby trees. They were running into houses with torches, and burning the houses. What few people resisted were merely clubbed down. Jea'Den was angry. He was hefting a couple of knives, and feeling their balances. He flipped one up, so that the shine from the blade could be seen from the town. A couple of the soldiers saw the light, and rode into the trees to see what had caused it, their cruel faces alight with anticipation. As the two of them got into the trees, Jea'Den dropped down and took both of their throats with his katars, blades that extended from a ring that he gripped, one in ach hand. As the bodies fell to the ground, Jea'Den aproached the village, completely unseen.

Serenity saw the soldiers ride through town. She glared at them, wondering what business they had in an already destroyed town. She felt no dislike towards them, but a strong curiosity. Just in case they were going to do harm to any of the villagers, she readied her bow. She didn't relax the string after she saw them disappear, but stood against one of the repaired walls, ready for any other harm that may befall them.

Kalin was crouched down, hiding in the rubble that had been a house. She had found a crevice formed by parts of the roof and a wall, and had immediately darted into it. She knew altogether too well that she wouldn't be able to stand an encounter with all of the soldiers at once. it was best for her to stay out of the way, and deal with the one or two soldiers who would find her. As son as she had finished thinking that, one of the men started walking toward her hiding place. He checked out the other holes and potential hiding places, slowly working his way towards her. Kalin held her breath. She knew that he would probably find her, but she was still afraid of it.

Just as the soldier was about to reach Kalin, Jea'Den jumped on him, his katar taking the man just above his neck, snapping into his brain. Jea'Den twisted his knees, breaking the man's neck, making sure he was dead. He did a flip off the dead body, and moved up behind a soldier with a torch. His katars took the man in the kidneys, and his spine. Jea'Den moved back into hiding, making not a sound the whole time he'd been exposed.

Kalin gasped in surprise as a man appeared out of nowhere, killed the soldier, then disappeared once again. It shocked her how quickly and easily he'd done it, and how thoughtlessly. She could never aim to kill, instead used attacks that would distract people, or stop them temporarily. Even if it meant her own death, she wouldn't kill.

Serenity saw the scene unfold with Kalin and Jea'Den. Her curiosity sparked, she slowly made her way to Kalin, looking around to make sure that no soldier was following her. She ducked into one of the holes that the guard had already checked and watched for Jea'Den.

Jea'Den was nowhere to be found. Until a group of four soldiers moved to see what had happened over here. They walked into the alley, and saw the two dead men. They all drew their weapons, and looked around, moving slowly. Two flashes of light, and two men fell over, a few moments later, a knife in each man's neck. When the two men went back to back, staring all over the place. A shadow displaced itself from one of the walls, while the men were looking up. They toppled over a second later, Jea'Den's katars each taking a man's neck. He moved deeper into the alley, but allowed himself to remain visible to the two girls.

Serenity slowly walked out, her face half shadowed. "Speak! Who are you?" she asked, her bow ready and aimed at his heart. She had a suspicion that he was an ally, but in times like this, one could never be sure.

Jea'Den walked out into the open, his black clothing still blending into the darkness, so that all that was visible was his white hair, face, and his almost glowing yellow, feral eyes. His katars had been cleaned off blood, and had been replaced on his belt. The two swords sticking out from under his black cloak seemed to be a natural part of him, just as natural as everything about him. Which meant it screamed dangerous. "My name is Jea'Den."

"And what business have you here?" Serenity asked, not letting her bow down. This man exuded fear and danger, and she could feel it, but she hoped it didn't show.

Kalin stayed quiet, but cautiously crept out of her hiding place. She hoped the two wouldn't start fighting, since she wasn't sure how many more soldiers were out there, and would be attracted by the sound of a fight. She just watched cautiously, and waited to see what would happen.

Jea'Den grinned. "I'm here to save this village." He said. "An object my master wants is here. He would just have me take it and go, but I would prefer to take by more negotiable means." Jea'Den chuckled to himself. "I would hate to have the villagers chase after me, after all I've done. On my life, I will never kill an innocent."

Serenity lowered her bow slightly, trusting the man a bit. "It's best that you escape this village. I am bound here. I cannot go unless something happens that triggers the deactivation of my spell," Serenity sighed. "But, you can leave. If it helps, I'll offer my services to help you, just so you can be rid of this village. It's beyond saving," she said ruefully.

Kalin watched the two of them cautiously. It seemed like she was being ignored, so she didn't try to interrupt them. Besides, her reason was trivial compared to them, and they both seemed like competent fighters.

Serenity turned her head slightly, "Miss, it's no use hiding." Her voice was soft and not at all threatening, although she had her bow now aimed at the area between Kalin and Jea'Den, ready to hit either.
