I've heard a lot of stuff about robert plant taking lyrics from other musicians. I didn't really care when i first heard about it but the deal is that a lot of people i know don't like led zeppelin for exactly that reason. Personally i think that it is ridiculous to not like led zeppelin for that reason because a majority of their material is their own. eek

But i suppose that i would understand why those people feel that way if i knew exactly what is led zeps material and what was taken from previous compositions by other artists. Does anybody know specifically what was taken from other artists? neutral

You Shook Me was a Willie Dixon song, but Jimmy & Robert put their names on the song credits. Boogie With Stu was a jam based off of "Ooh My Head" by Ritchie Valens I think? Dazed and Confused was of coursed carried over from the Yardbird days. Hats Off To Roy Harper was kind of a tribute to James Brown, but thats not really borrowing. Babe I'm Gonna Leave you was originally done by Joan Baez I think. (I'm about 90% sure on these facts, I'll double check later.)
They did a LOT of borrowing. I'm pretty sure that the majority of I Can't Quit You Baby wasn't their own material. Probably about 50% of the first two albums was not their material.

_Zim_Zim_ Holy_Zofo Yeah but i woudnt really count the dazed and confused cuz wasnt jimmy page in that band? yeah he was but i dont think he wrote it. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he wrote most of it. There were at least two Willie Dixon songs that Zeppelin kind of re-did, and in turn, Dixon sued and got compensation. The Lemon Song was a take-off on Howlin' Wolf's 'Killing Floor'.

I'm pretty sure Jimmy wrote most of Dazed and Confused.
Willie Dixon sued them and got a settlement for I Can't Quit You and some other song I don't remember.
The Lemon Song is based on Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor".

I'm almost positive that Train Kept A Rollin' was not written by the Yardies.
Unfortunately. D:
