I realize I haven't posted in here in FOREVER, but I just really needed to post somewhere... I'm moving into my dorm in two weeks, I won't know anyone and I've never been in a class-room before... I'm excited and terrified all at the same time. neutral Anybody who's "been there, done that"?

By default, you should engaged the teacher and other students in discussion which is relevant to the topic for the day.
If, however, you discover that the teacher doesn't like that, don't do it.
Don't force yourself to stay sitting in your desk/chair the whole time. College teachers usually don't care if you stand up, especially if you are at the back of the room.
Raising one's hand usually isn't necessary in a college class.
College has some really awful aspects. For one thing, they will probably assign you lots of stupid homework. Basically, you are expected to do all of your learning outside of class. I'm not even really sure why the classes meet. Also, you have to do everything on their schedule, which means you have to put off things that interest you that aren't being covered in your classes at that moment. I usually find that I have to put those things off all the way until the end of the semester.
IOW, college sucks. I don't even know why I go.
Good luck!
