My friends have all said they think I have ADD or AD/HD. I'm starting to agree. I can't seem to focus on one topic for long periods of time. However, from past experiences with my parents and me wanting to see the doctor, my parents aren't likely to believe me. What can I do?

Haruna Saotome of 2A My friends have all said they think I have ADD or AD/HD. I'm starting to agree. I can't seem to focus on one topic for long periods of time. However, from past experiences with my parents and me wanting to see the doctor, my parents aren't likely to believe me. What can I do? i have add as well. but my dad has add as well, and his simptoms dont show anymore. he learned to control it by writing lists. i guess i should start doing that, but i can not remember to look at the lists that i rarely wright... i believe that books can tell you whether you have add or not. plus you can probobly rent any book you want for free from your library. they let us do that around here, and i am pretty sure everywhere else as well. a book is all i can think of.

One of my friends provides her add child with trinkets (just nothing that makes noise) to play with while in school. For some reason, having those squishy balls and various other tactile items in hand helps keep her focused on the teacher and school work
It is believed that it can be inherited

I don't think anyone in my family has it, though. Could I have developed it because my mother died when I was five? It was obviously traumatic to me, as I have other problems as well. And self-diagnosis isn't always the best thing. It's easy to make a mistake. I'm worried that I would make that mistake. I'd like to get to a doctor, like I said, but my parents are hard to convince of this kind of thing. Trinkets, even if they aren't noisy, are taken away at my school; considered 'toys'. We aren't allowed to have them. This makes it very difficult to focus, obviously. I do find it easier to focus if I have something in my hand to squeeze. However, I'm glad I'm not alone on this, and I have you guys to help me. ^^
