Everything is dark, and the only sounds are of wind driven sand whispering up against skins, and the steady breathing of peaceful dreamers. Then, a sudden feeling of vertigo, and a feeling that something has gone horribly wrong. What feels like an eternity passes, and then the dunes rumble and the great rocks underneath shift and shatter, the noise deafening. Suddenly, Blaze is on the crest of a dune, watching the great mountains smoulder. There beside him are strange but familiar faces, and one that he had long locked eyes with. Orange eyes. Fire eyes.

In his sleep, Blaze sweated and whimpered. His dreams had a nasty habit of forcing him to remember what he wished to forget most of all.

A shadow slide her way amid the familiar faces of Blaze's mind. Smoky grey eyes, devoid of their once brillant blue-green color, peer at the fire-souled and troubled elf as a smiled played on incorporal lips. Here was the Heat that had drawn her attention.

She shifted, formless, about the other elf, working to be bit a whisper in his dream, oozing herself into the shadows of his mind.

**Beloved,** she whispered to his mind, the feel of it sharply cold. It was the cold of the hottest flames. Her eyes widened in desire as she eagerly awaited his reaction.

The cold voice was like a lightning strike on a moonless night in the dull furnace's roar of his dreams, and he swung wildly about, trying to find the sorce. His mind rested again and again on shining orange eyes, but every time he reached out to accept them, something was already accepted, the void already filled, like a lock filled with sand trying to accept its rightful key. **Where are you?** He sent desperately, scratching at the fabric of the dream in search of the voice's owner. The greatest sort of need wheighed heavy on his chest, and he had thrown caution to the wind.

Oh, how She loved when they Sought Her so.

Formless lips pulled up into a smile, as she slid to and forth, luring him further into the dream, further into Her.

**Here, Beloved,** she replied with a shiver. **How cold it is. Without you,** she sent to him. There was truth in it. She was cold, and the warmth she knew lay within Blaze's heart called to her, made her all but drool for the want of it, and it was this Truth that the Shade placed within her mind's touch. **Come, warm me,** she seemed to beg, growing more 'solid' seeming.

Completely ensnared, like a fly caught in honey, Blaze followed blindly, background images of smoking mountains all but forgotten. Sensing the now-tangible form, he reached out to embarce it and to be embraced, and opened his mind completeley to let it share in his warmth. **My beloved, are you well? You are so very cold. Hold me, and take whatever you may need. I am broken, but I am yours, lover.**

Yet as he stripped his mind bare, the puzzle-peice in his chest that had so solidly prevented a union rumbled and steamed as what lie there stirred and looked out. It saw much fuel in this new mind, and it was always hungry.

Winowill's form sought to coalesce further as arms reached for arms.

**No, my flame,** she replied with a icy shiver, **I am not well.**

There, she was sensing, was hunger to match her own, hot where she was cold. It stayed her, made her lighten her touch on his mind in reservation, so that even as a more solid form seemed to reach out and step into an embrace, the sense of the mind grew more distant.

Blaze held the form in his arms, a forgotten grief flowing over as he tried to heat the icy body. **Let me make things right, let me-**

As her mind and energies began to draw back, the heat took it's chance like a predator who's prey had spooked. Intense fury and hunger blotted out any of Blaze's other thoughts, and in his dream he tore into the form, clawing and chewing at it, more beast than elf, and his dreams filled with gore.

Then, realizing that the body held nothing, Blaze screamed in fustration, and threw the fading form aside. **Come back, lover... I want you.** The send carried a sorrowfull tone, but it was the sorrow of deprivation. She needn't create a need this time; there already was one. Whirling and snapping at shadows, Blaze tried to pin her prescence's position down, searching for the cold.

Winowill's delicately created substance shreaded easily beneath his claws and somewhere, hidden from him, she frowned.

A scream tore from her, echoed about the dreamscape, and the shadows that had flitted about Blaze, the icy cold that marked her presence, seemed to be forcibly pulled from him. The scream was wordless, formless, but was filled with a grasping clinging sort of feel. The chill of her was dug across the gore-filled landscape, over a horizon, and gone. The scream tapered off but never ended.

Falling to his knees, he cried; fat, hot droplets that rolled down his cheeks and exploded in puffs of steam as they hit the baking earth. **Come back...** Then his eyes were drawn as if by magnets to the mountains, and they tore open, a firey shockwave of dust and melted rock radiating out acrost the foothills and dunes. His scream joined her own.

He woke suddenly with the screams still ringing in his ears, and he lay there quietly for a moment, comitting the feel of the cold mind to memory.
Then he rose, and headed for the beach.

(During the later part of the hurricane plot.)

Blaze had ventured down into the cavern below the main cave, a place he secretly thought of as the stone heart. The constant in-and-out pump of the water in its center as the waves pounded the shore outside seemed to him like the organ of some mighty, slumbering animal; even though he knew it was a silly, fluff-minded idea. But the gentle pulse of glistening noise got into his ears, and he sat against the side of the stairs, and let his mind wander. Soon the fatigue of doing nothing all day caught up with him, and he slipped into a dream, the lapping of the water echoing around him.

The stone swayed under him, and he slammed a hand down for balance. But it bit him. He opened his eyes, and realized the bite was the ferocious cold of the ice he stood on as it bobbed in the water. Swaying unsteadily, he got to his feet, looking about as the floe jostled its few neighbors, the only objects for as far as he could see acrost a grey tract of water that he knew was the vast-deep. The wind nipped him, and he snarled back, almost tipping the platform of ice. The sleet-grey water rose to meet him, and he scrambled back to the center, throwinghimself flat for purchase. It was not the cold that he feared, he could bear the cold, and keep his heat. The water was bottomless, he knew it. Anything could lie in what went on forever, and the possibilities were what terrifed him. So he hugged the ice grimly, waiting for something to start making sense.

Another dreamer? The formless mind of Winnowill sensed the new mind, and drifted toward it, easing into the dream as little more than an added chill to the air. She surveyed the 'landscape', noting the ice and the water and the elf that had burnt her once before. Incorporeal lips pursed in thought, and she drifted closer; the chill grew more solid with the dream as she neared.

Blaze felt the chill and he knew it was not his own doing. The shroud of fog and strange whirling flakes that danced before his eyes, white and gray in the muted light, became as worrysome as the slate waters. Pulling his knees under him, he sat on his heels, bent forward with fingers splayed acrost the ice. Craning his neck, he squinted, and tried to pierce the veil, eyes searching for anything but the flakes and mist. It seemed thicker, now that it had something to hide from him. **Joy? Is that you? Savith? Get out of my dreams. They are not kind ones, and they hold nothing of value.** He knew he'd felt that touch at least once before; noticable even in its silence.

The chill held, and he shivered involutary. He felt very alone much alone, but above that, he felt vulnerable. It was a feeling he detested.

Joy - the name was, for the moment, unfamiliar. But Savith. At the name, Winnowill grinned to herself, pleased that at least one of her toys was still alive. She would have to find him, no doubt. He would, she would ensure, prove useful to her future plans.

In the here and now of Blaze's mind, however, the snow-shadow drifted, collecting the sensations of loneliness, vulnerability, and self-loathing, savoring each as she plucked them from the swirling snowflakes about her.

**How wrong you are,** she whispered in her own voice, soft, silken, and powerful. **Kind or not, there is much contained within them, for those skilled to see.**
