The story of the coming quartet isn't a simple one.
Rather, it's much more complicated than anyone could think, though it starts off rather simple.
We'll just have to see where this goes.

~-~-~-~-~

Soft pink and smoky paws made their way through a thick grassy area, leaves rustling softly at each light touch. The forest/jungle-like setting wasn't an ideal place for the two traveling Ulaya. Then again, neither of them were willing to admit that they disliked the setting. Such stubborn creatures these two were. The traveling companions were mere companions. Nothing more, nothing less. Of course, they each had their own sense of direction but those senses led them to meet. The female had come across the male first, or was it the other way around? Regardless, the two had agreed to travel alongside each other for a bit.

The female, Calliope, was a headstrong female, alone but courageous and determined. One could just feel the vibe coming off of her when she got edgy or excited. Her healthy, shiny coat was the hue of midnight, reflecting the tone of the sky above her. Her sky blue eyes were sharp yet very open and accepting. She was very spoiled though she tried not to show it. Of course, she would have those days... All women seemed to have those days. Hers just came more often. Otherwise, Calliope was an impressive creature; admittedly pretty too with her unusual matching necklace and moon print on her left thigh. She wouldn't say anything about the accessory though. And the male never bothered to ask.

On the other hand, Orpheus was a bit of the opposite. More like, complete opposite of the female beside him. He was a reserved Ulaya, his coat much more plain yet equally as handsome with his tribal tattoo markings. He could easily blend into smoke if he was willing enough to jump into fire. That being said, Orpheus had never planned to journey with another - let alone an immature female. At least he thought she was immature with her sudden rants or shifts in mood. He wouldn't understand women; not for quite some time. Rather, the male liked to keep to himself and tried to disregard as much of the female as he possibly could.

Now. Dark tree trunks shifted by, gaps of darkness seeping in from every space in between. Moon and starlight was sifting through the treetops, vaguely lighting the trail Calliope and Orpheus were following.

"Isn't it about time we stop?" Calliope finally broke the silence.
"Shh, I think I hear something." Orpheus laid out a paw before her, stopping them both in their tracks.

The golden eyes turned upwards to peer up at the tall trees. Soft, silver rays streamed in through the gaps in the branches, illuminating the otherwise dark area. The scarlet-furred female paused for a moment to glance around at her surroundings. Her ability to see beauty in the simplest and most unlikely of things was something the female often prided herself in. Tilting her head to the side, she brushed her paw against a trunk of a tree as she passed it, staring at it as it seemed to glow where the moonlight fell on it.

She halted, emitting a soft sigh. The forest was eerily beautiful, and for a moment, Nayeli just wanted to sit down and take in the scene. She was a dreamer. Her companion - someone who she had grown to consider as a brother - seemed to have other ideas, however.

Kenelm, the more practical of the two, was forced to glance over his shoulder when he noted that the sound of Nayeli's steps had ceased. The corner of his muzzle pulled upwards in a wry smile as he watched the female in amusement. "Daydreaming again?" He asked softly, raising a brow. He earned a sheepish smile in return, to which he sighed at. While he didn't want to admit it, he was very much used to her becoming distracted.

"It's lovely," He admitted as he padded up towards the female, "However you seem to be forgetting that we're lost." He chuckled as his companion protested, flustered. Turning, he walked steadily in the direction that they had been going in for about an hour now. He could hear his 'sister' scramble to follow. Kenelm couldn't blame her - in the darkness and shadows of the trees, he blended in quite well. Aside from the bits of gray and white that patterned his pelt, and his silver eyes, he would be completely invisible to others if he wandered too far into the darkness.

'I do have to wonder if we're going to right way though.' He thought to himself, his eyebrows knitting together, 'If we're going deeper in, instead of out...'

He trailed off, completely unaware of the presence of two others nearby.

Calliope halted, suddenly tense and focused. It wasn't surprising - expecting something in the woods. But seeing as how the majority of the evening was quiet, she was caught off guard. Her muscles tightened, lowering herself to a crouch/defensive position. She knew she shouldn't have been prancing around. It could have been following the two the entire time and neither of them had noticed. Well, whatever it was, she was ready now.

"Calm down. I don't think -- whatever that thing is, knows we're here," Orpheus growled softly.

"Then we have the advantage," the female replied, slinking over his outstretched paw.

She sniffed at the air, catching the scent of not one, but two different animals. Evenly matched. Orpheus nodded, indicating that he had just noticed as well. But he had no intention of assaulting the unknown yet.

"If you'll be quiet for a second, we'll be able to hear them," Orpheus mumbled through gritted teeth.

Calliope immediately quieted, her suspicion still evident in her crouch.
The male's ears twitched, trying to pick up the sound of their voices.

"However you seem to be forgetting that we're lost."

Oh. Travelers. Like themselves. Orpheus eased his tension, indicating that Calliope should do the same. She frowned at him, but nevertheless - she too relaxed, allowing her muscles to loosen once more. They stood there for a few minutes, sifting through ideas in their minds about what they could do. When it sounded like the voices were dying away, Calliope thought aloud:

"Perhaps we should go meet them?"
She started forward with Orpheus trailing behind, crawling through the bushes to make rustling sounds.
The meeting would go smoother if the others knew someone was behind them.

Nayeli hurried to follow after her friend, her ears laying back. "Kenelm, slow down a little." She said, trying to keep an eye on him. It was hard to follow the dark-colored Ulaya in the darkness and, sure enough, the female found herself losing sight of him within another minute.

"Oh...goodness." She sighed, glancing around her. When no one responded, she sat down, trying to decide what her next move should be. To wander in a random direction and hope that she'd find him eventually? Or to stay here, and hope the male Ulaya would realize that she was no long following, and back track? Deciding on the latter, she stayed where she was, ears pricked to listen for any sign of Kenelm's return.

It was then that she heard rustling - but it was coming from behind her, not from the direction her companion had headed off into. Her ears suddenly flattened nervously as she turned to glance in the direction of the rustling. "Kenelm?" She asked timidly, slowly standing up.

"We don't seem to be going in the right direction," The male Ulaya admitted after a moment, somewhat sheepishly. When there was no response, he turned with concern. "Nayel -"

He cut himself off, cursing himself quietly under his breath when he realized the female was no longer following. 'I should have been walking alongside her, or slowed down,' He growled at himself, bounding back to the way he had came. 'I'll have a better chance of finding her if she stays where I lost her. If she's wandering...'

He shoved the thought out of his head, hoping that Nayeli would have been smart enough to stay put, instead of trying to wander deeper in, in an attempt to follow him. Luckily for Kenelm, he picked up the scent of his 'sister' soon after. But the scent of two strangers as well.

Ears pinning down against his skull, he quickened his pace.

"Afraid not," Calliope emerged from the shrubbery, answering the other female's call.

At this point she was completely relaxed, unheeding of Orpheus's inconspicuous sniffing. Another female, like herself! This was great. At least she wouldn't be moody like Orpheus. At least, Calliope hoped for it.

"Wasn't there another with you?" he asked the female, eyes narrowed.

If the male was around planning to attack, Orpheus was not going to fall victim to it first. But where was that other companion? The scent was still here but very faint - as if the male had left a little while before. This was unusual. From what he and Calliope had heard, the two were traveling. And now there was only one.

Suddenly Orpheus caught the same scent, much stronger and coming their way at a much faster pace. He could hear the hurried steps that the male was taking.

"Oh, here he comes now. Sounds like he isn't too happy," he mused, reaching Calliope's side in a few steps.

Nayeli jumped, whirling around when someone spoke. Her ears laid back and she retreated a couple of steps, her golden eyes cautious as she took in the sight of the two strangers. "Who...?"
Her gaze darted to the dark-colored male. She hesitated, her body tensing a little. "I...well, yes." She managed to reply, unnerved by the narrowed eyes, "I lost sight of him." The female admitted, pawing at the yellow ribbon around her neck as she watched them. Well...they didn't seem particularly threatening. Not yet, at least. She just hoped that it would stay that way.
"...I'm Nayeli." She piped up suddenly, her voice soft, "May I ask your names..." A pause, "...Please?"

With his quick and long strides, Kenelm found the scent of the three Ulaya - only one of which he was familiar with - growing stronger quickly. When he heard a male's voice, one that seemed to be referring to him, he hurried towards the voice.
"Nayeli!" The male observed the pair suspiciously as he reached out to push his companion behind him. She seemed to protest quietly, but he ignored her, frowning. They didn't seem like they were going to hurt them - if they had wanted to, they could have attacked Nayeli already. Not to mention that they didn't really look like the types that would hurt someone for no real reason. Still, it was better to be safe than sorry.

The male dipped his head in greeting to the pair, but kept is eyes on them as he did so. "...Hello." He said after a moment's pause.

{OoC: That's quite alright. x3 I know how irritating that can be.}

Calliope was about to respond to Nayeli's question when the charcoal male pounced into view. She could just barely see him as he seemed to blend in with the dark background. His only distinct features seemed to be the red and silver markings on his body. The two Ulaya contrasted severely in Calliope's opinion, with the bright-furred female and the dark-pelted male, but she couldn't help note their individual splendor. Her ears twitched slightly, eyes narrowing indignantly at the quiet interruption. On the other hand, Orpheus remained poised, raising a brow at the new comer. It was an awkward moment, but he managed to brush it off with a reply.

"Hello," he said, equally as suspicious. "Are you two traveling as well?"

"A bit irresponsible to leave your mate behind no?" Calliope frowned as Orpheus nudged her shoulder ever so slightly.

He usually did that when she was beginning crossing the line. What? She didn't think her question came off as rude. Then again, it was rare of her to see her own candor come off as rudeness. Even though Calliope was sharp-tongued and witty - she wasn't exactly the brightest creature when it came down to analyzing herself. The blue female shifted her attention back to the other female, choosing to introduce their selves.

"Regardless, it's nice to meet you Nayeli. My name is Calliope," She then nodded at Orpheus. "And this is Orpheus."

"And no. We aren't mates," the gray male scoffed quickly before the other two could say anything.
