Reason for being chosen: She volunteered. That, and everyone who would have objected was too afraid of her reputation or quickly convinced to not voice their opinions by those who were.
Reason for going: Boredom, mostly.
Background: "Vade" was a nickname given to her by the street urchins who she grew up with for her ability to "evade" pursuit after her thefts of food and money. As she grew older, Vade learned that the reason she wasn't being caught seemed to be unique to her, and after some time practicing, she turned it into an ability she could use at will. With this discovery she began larger heists, stealing from the wealthy and living quite well for an orphan on the streets. During one such heist, she ran into a master thief, who recognized her potential and offered her a spot on his team in exchange for training.
Six years after joining the master thief and his gang, Vade was assisting in a heist on the house owned by (unknown to them) a member of the Carcinogen Council, when the master thief was slain and her companions slaughtered by the member's guards. Strangely unphased by this turn of events, Vade watched as the Council member disposed of the gang. This seemed to be at least a little more challenging than petty thievery, and this man seemed to be fairly well off... Revealing herself nearly caused the council member to have a heart attack, but when she explained that she wanted to apprentice under him, he paused to give it thought. After weighing the situation, he gave into her request, and she began training as an assassin.
Her reputation skyrocketed as all the jobs that were given to her were completed neatly and without easy explanation. Vade's prowess with stealth made her jobs easy, allowing her to literally walk up to her target, knife them, then walk away without anyone knowing she'd been there. Other members of the council watched her advancement carefully, as she slew mark after mark without fail. Eventually, she earned the nickname "Ghost Raven", as her weapons of choice became daggers etched with black ravens.
