Ark, Terra, and Alana had just put the finishing touches on their airship. It was unfathomable how three young people could build an airship of such immensity and grandeur, but this was Fate Island, and they were no ordinary youths.
"Phew, it's finally done," Ark said, wiping the sweat from his brow and setting his tool case on the sand. Ark Maguspants fancied himself to be quite the magic user. He was also easily the most agile of the threesome.
"It looks great, just like the blueprints!" Alana said with a grin, walking around the ship. She was famous on the islands for being so perky and supportive.
"Needs a name though," Terra said, adjusting her glasses. She was the analytical one, and she had come up with the idea for the airship in the first place. It was a lifelong dream of the three friends to be able to travel to other worlds, and now that dream would finally be realized.
"Any suggestions?" Ark asked.
"I vote for Almarant," Terra said, raising her hand.
"How about Excelsior?" Ark suggested.
"Hey, I know! Let's race around the island!" Terra said. "The winner gets to name the ship!"
"It's a deal!" Ark said.
"And I'll be the judge!" Alana agreed. "Ready...GO!"
Ark jumped up and began sprinting down the beach. "I've got a head start!"
"Hey, no fair!" Terra ran after him. "Now would be a really good time to sprout wings..." she grumbled.
Ark clambered across the island's frameworks and touched the star located on a mossy cliff face. He then proceeded to jump across palm trees and toward a grouping of planks.
Terra clambered up the framework and stumbled over to the star. By this time, Ark was heavily in the lead. He looked back at Terra to see where she was.
"I'll catch up with you!" she panted. He nodded and jumped to the planks. She followed him, but when she stepped on one of the planks, it gave out and she fell through to the sand.
"I win!" Ark cried, jogging back to Alana. "Terra, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine..." She dusted the sand off. "Congrats on winning! Excelsior it is, then. That's an awesome word, I think people should use it more often."
"I agree," Ark said. "What's Almarant mean, anyway?"
"Oh, nothing, it's just a word I made up."
"Maybe we should take off tomorrow," Alana said, staring off at the sea. "It looks like a storm's brewing."
"...Nah!" Terra said. "Come on, let's take it for a joyride! I want to visit the Colosseum!" For some odd reason, she was obsessed with going to the Colosseum.
"How about Hollow Bastion?" Ark offered. "I really want to meet Squall, he's so awesome!"
"I think we should go to Traverse Town," Alana said. "Squall might be there!"
Don't ask how they already knew about other worlds and the Final Fantasy characters inhabitants thereof. They just did.
"Yeah, I think that's our best option," Terra said. "We should probably also gear up there, in case of Heartless attacks."
They also knew about the Heartless, okay?
"All right then, it's settled!" Ark said. "Let's go!"
"Wait...who's going to captain this thing?" Terra inquired.
"Why not you? I mean, it was your idea," Ark replied.
"Whoa, really? I've always wanted to captain an airship!" Terra struck a heroic pose.
The three friends boarded the airship and took off for the stars. During the trip, they discussed equipment. Ark was going for mage equips. Terra wasn't sure what kind of weapon she should get, because she liked smashing stuff, but she also didn't like hurting people. Ark suggested a shield, and Terra agreed, but deep down she had secret desires for the most insanely large sword known to mankind. Alana needed to give it more thought.
The Excelsior touched down at the gates to Traverse Town, and Terra promptly tripped and fell, landing flat on the ground. Ark cast Float on himself and hovered gracefully down to the ground...and then tripped on his shoelace. Alana tripped over the both of them.
They then proceeded to launch into a lengthy discussion about shoelaces, and the tripping over of them, as well as their past shoelace experiences, and how they liked tying them (Alana preferred tying hers in a double knot, while Ark liked tucking his into his shoes, and Terra wore sandals all the time so it didn't matter to her anyway).
"Well, what a sight we must look," Terra said with a sigh. She got up and dusted herself off. "Need any help, guys?"
"Nah, I'm okay," Ark said, getting up as well.
"I'm fine," Alana responded.
The three of them set off to the equipment shop.
"Hey guys...do we have any munny on us?" Terra suddenly asked.
"I've got some gil, I wonder what the current exchange rate is," Ark replied.
"I don't have any..." Alana said.
Terra searched her pockets and came out with a few lint balls. "I've got...pocket lint. What are we gonna do?"
The three friends stood around and attempted to think of a solution...

"Good idea!" Terra said. "Let's go to that other shop over there!" She dragged Ark and Alana to the accessory shop, where Cid was standing behind the counter, looking cranky as always.
"Are ya gonna buy somethin' or what?!" he barked as Terra looked around, ogling all of the awesome merchandise.
"Oh yeah!" She popped up in front of the counter suddenly, startling Cid. "No. I mean, yeah! Yeah no. I dunno. My friend Ark here wants to sell his pretty stones. And we also wanted to exchange his gil for munny."
Cid pulled out a thick book and some reading glasses, and began flipping through the pages. "Lessee...alien life forms, Charizard cards, Egyptian mummies...ah, here we are. Pretty stones. They currently go for...2 munny each. How many ya got?"

Ark's mouth dropped.
"WHAT!?" he yelled in shock, "I have it on good word that Pretty Stones are worth AT LEST 40 munny! This is an outrage!"
He stormed over and sat down by the fireplace, sulking.

Cid adjusted his glasses. "Oh, wait, I read the heading wrong. I was lookin' at eidolons. HERE are the Pretty Stones...40 munny each, just like ya said. Oh, and today 1 gil is worth..." He pulled out a calculator. "Minus 5...carry the 2...times the square root of JENOVA..." he mumbled. "...1 gil is worth 1,000 munny."

A jumped up at that. "Guys you know what that means!?"
"Let's see," Ark said as he walked over to the counter. He pulled out 20 pretty stones that he won in races against Terra and 20 gil he found lying on the ground when he tripped. "With this we should get..." He pulls out his TI-84 Silver Edition. "Hmmm... 20 times 40... plus 20 times 1000... use a place holder... factor in the current weather effects... I rolled a natural 1 so I get a bonus... 20,800 munny!"

"Awright, here's yer munny," Cid grumbled, throwing a large bag at Ark. "I'll take the stones and the gil now."
"Hooray, now we can go buy smashy-smashy stuff!" Terra exclaimed with glee, skipping out of the shop.
"...Keep that girl away from me," Cid muttered to Ark and Alana.

Ark looked at Cid funny, "Who Terra? She would never hurt a butterfly. Maybe a roach, a fly, or a small mammal, but not a butterfly." He then began counting his money as he walked out the door of the accessory shop with Alana. Little did he know that someone was waiting for him outside. A man dressed in black leather holding a gunblade stood there on the stairs in front of the accessory shop. When he saw Ark he sploded. "YOU STOLE MY GIL!!!" Squall yelled as he launched a fireball at Ark.

Meanwhile, Terra was in the equipment shop, browsing the weapons--more specifically, the swords. "Ooh, I like that one...and that one...and that one...whoa, I LOVE that one!" She pointed to a huge claymore. "How much for that one?"
"5,000 munny," Huey replied.
"I'll take it! Hold on, I gotta get my friend's munny--I mean, my friend." Terra ran out of the shop just in time to see Squall throw a fireball at Ark.
"STOOOOOOOOOOP!!" Terra yelled, running toward him, arms flailing. "YOU'LL BURN UP THE MUNNY!!!"

Ark ducked as the fireball went by singeing his hair and exploding on the door to the accessory shop. everyone stopped and stared at the door. "Why did the door not explode into a thousand little firey splinters of doom?" Ark asked. "I don't know," replied Squall. Then Cid popped his head out the window and pointed at a small sign next to the door. -PROTECTED BY SQUARE ENIX- PROVIDING SAFE, DECORATIVE, AND INDESTRUCTABLE 3D AND 2D STRUCTURES FOR OVER 2O YEARS "You gotta be kidding right?" asked Ark.

"Genius," Terra commented. "Oh, right." She marched over to Squall. "Listen here, buddy!" she barked. "My friend didn't steal your gil! He found it on the ground! So why don't you just go back to Rinoa like you're supposed to?!"
"R...RINOA!!!!" Squall curled up on the ground and began bawling like a baby. "I'LL COME BACK TO YOU SOME DAAAAAY!!"
"That's why!" Aerith said, running over to the group. "Thanks a lot, you guys. You know how emotionally unstable he is!" She sighed. "Yuffie, let's get him back to his room."
"Righty-o!" Yuffie jumped down from a nearby rooftop and attempted to drag the pile of black leather angst away, but his angst (and his chain jewelry) weighed him down, and she seemed to be struggling quite a bit. "I really wish *grunt* I had *grunt* a wheelbarrow!!" she gasped.

Ark walks over and casts float. He casts feather fall. He casts aero.
"GOOD GRIEF MAN! There's no lifting your spirits! You're so emo you're immune to air magic!"
Aerith stromed ovre to Ark and stared him down in that angry chibi-esque anime style. "You will leave the nut job alone, UNDERSTOOD?"
eek Ark shrunk back from the angry woman, flashing backgrounds, special effects, and flaming eyes of fury. "Y-y-yes ma'am..."
"Good~" Aerith said all happy-go-lucky again, and Yuffie and her dragged the fetal Squall back to the hotel.
"She scares me..." said Ark, "Oooo! Look an elixir!" he picks it up from the ground where Squall had just been.
