I've got a tat on my lower back but I'm thinking about getting one on my shoulder blade after I've had the baby, any ideas how much it'll hurt? I've got quite bony shoulder blades... The one on my lower back hurt a lot on my spine but not on the surrounding areas so I'm just wondering if it'll be the same on the shoulder blade...
Where is the most painful place you guys have had a tattoo done and how long did it take before a tear escaped your eyes? (LOL)

Two things for sure: 1) Bony areas are the most painful parts. 2) Areas with more muscle/tissue tend to be less painful.

I must disagree, it hurts more on fatty area than on boney area! Fat has way more nerves in it than thin, I should know! blaugh Thinner areas burn more though. The top of my foot and insides of my wrists burned alot. My lower back wasn't much trouble except, when he hit the fatty areas around my spine.

Ah I see... my conclusion seems to be wrong then. No experience yet xd Thanks for the correction!

I think the bony areas were the worst for me, and the areas with more tissue were easier, with the exception of an area with LOTS of nerves. I did my shoulder, The blade was tough, but the closer it got to the spine, is when it hurt the most.

To be perfectly honest so far none of my tattoos have hurt overly much, the back of my leg hurt alot after 2 hours of tattooing but i had some reading material so i wasnt paying too much attention. Also up close to my arm pit was strangely soothing despite the fact I thought it would hurt like hell... I actually fell asleep at one point.

All I remember pain wise was around the center of my tramp stamp, it vibrated my spine up to my shoulder blades... kinda tickled...
but when he branch out to the fatty areas on both sides, I though I was gonna die ;_;

 From MY experience the shoulders are laughable -- the elbows sting a little the hand is torture cause i got mine done all the way to the finger nails and on the knuckles -- the bicept on top was ow but the inside of the bicept kinda killed -- the back i dident even notice cause i was hitting on the tattoo artist the whole time (So in other words its so painless that you are more focused on your thing than the sting) and the insides of the forarms (not shown) are pretty mild too

Oh yeah and the neck was not really that horrible but the neck was worce than the head
So in other words its not really a matter of boney area or fatty area -- some spots are just tattoo sensitive -- i could get my whole head done and not fret but the elbows would kill just because -- both boney areas but like i say its just a matter of tolorance and where
What i usualy think about during tattoos is that a few hours of pain to have a tattoo for a lifetime is a sweet deal -- oh and if you pretend that the artist is just buzzing you with a shaver insted of a needle it kinda eases the sting so your heartrate doesent go up -- heart rate going up means more bleeding which means less ink will hold

i think its different for everyone. my shoulder ones didnt hurt much at all, but the one around my forearm hurt so bad i almost passed out (the artist was digging, and it got nasty green scabs and is way scarred), but my husbands most painful was on the chest, but i think it was because i did them and they were like my 3rd and 4th i had ever done not counting touchups

I've heard that areas such as ankles, feet and hands tend to hurt a lot. The ankle tattoos apparantely hurt like a b***h.
I only have two tattoos and they really weren't all that bad. The one I got on my wrist was basically painless. The one on my lower back only hurt on the lowest area of the tattoo, it burnt quite a lot. The rest of it was fine and I can't complain there.

I don't know in my experience it was all in the way you heal. Soreness is worse then getting the tattoo for me. Stops me from moving alot. I had a really bad reaction to a lotion and had a even harder time.
