Mistral is Mireille's mother. There's a perfect reason why both characters share similar appearances and act about the same.
Mistral was downright annoying from the get go, and extremely hyperactive and adventurous, but ultimately likeable, unlike Piros who was completely annoying. She didn't believe Kite for the longest about the issues he was going through, and the real issues that The World would soon face. Kite was also surprised to fund out that Mistral was a grown woman in her mid- twenties.
Mistral was also pregnant offline, and had to take a break from helping Kite on his adventure all throughout .hack//OUTBREAK. Toward the end of .hack//QUARANTINE, Mistral had a bouncing baby girl, and was finally okay enough to help Kite and company complete their quest against The Cursed Wave.
A couple years actually go by during the events between INFECTION to QUARANTINE.
Six months go by and there's a party/.hackers Reunion in episode 28, UNISON of .hack//SIGN a special episode featuring the characters from the four Games including Mistral who is confronted by Sora, as Crim and Silver Knight come to her rescue, alas it was only fun & games.
Four years pass from the moments after UNISON. And we get to the setting for .hack//Legend of The Twilight.
We see a slightly smaller Mistral-lookalike running around, same voice actress too. And her name is Mireille, (...and we don't find this out unless you have read through the mangas, or preferably non-translated mangas..) Offline she is really a five year old girl, and quite literally the youngest of the current crop of .hackers.
Coincidence? I think not. Mireille is the daughter of Mistral, chronologically and storywise it fits. Mistral stopped playing awhile after the original Kite and Blackrose were eliminated from Playing The World. When the .hackers disbanded she was amongst the many members that left the game. but she kept her character style and passed it on to her daughter, who made it her own, and now we have Mireille.

I'll admit,Minstral was annoying at first, but the more you got to know her,the cooler she seemed. It was a big surprise when I got the last .Hack//Dusk(or Legend of The Twilight) installment, to find that Mireille was actually a little girl.

Yeah, Mistral was my favorite Wavemaster to use in the game, and I was bummed when she wasn't in Outbreak, and glad she could come back in part 4. I kinda always had the feeling Mireille was a kid, just the way she acted, hyper and obsessed. That was how I came to the conclusion she was Mistral's daughter, and had to wait a real long time to get confirmation of the fact.

That would be one hell of a coincidence. Mireille is actually using her mother's avatar, it was modded to more resemble her as a kid, and the rest of the charas are pretty SD already, but of course this doesn't come out until the third manga, and I'm not sure if it comes into the anime at all, as I haven't gotten to see the whole thing yet.

The whole 'Mistral-Mireille' thing also explains the part in the first book when Mistral(whom I thought was Mireille)choked Balmung.

...They also blatantly say this in the Manga ".hack//LEGEND OF THE TWILIGHT BRACELET", not to be confused with ".hack//LEGENDS", which I thought made the chaste relationship of Shugo and Rina damn creepy...

Sygo and Raina? Closest literal translation: Su-i-go (Sue-the 'e' sound in 'me'-go, as in opposite of stop) and Ra-i-na (Ra[ra, ra, sis-boom-bah!]-same 'e' sound in 'me'-na[Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Good-bye]). *annoying game show buzzer* Wrong! You see, Japanese to English name translation is very literal, which is why I buzzed it. The correct names are Shugo (Shoe, you wear it on your feet-go, as in the opposite of stop) and Reina (Singing in the Rain-uh).
Interesting propostion. Is there any information backing up such a statement? Or is it just an out-there, spur-of-the-moment thought?
//Edit Sorry, it's probably closer to Shi-i-go than Su-i-go. My sincerest apologies.

My guess is his thought is because Mistral is Mireille's mom, hence the same avitar, then Blackrose and Kite must be the parents of Shugo and Reina. That's not true because in the manga (and from what Sab has told me) they won a contest that allowed them to use the skins of Blackrose and Kite....they weren't given to them by their parents. Edit: The following is a quote from http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,1141,gsrvep,.hack__legend_o.html Quote: The story revolves around a network game called "The World". It takes place four years after the "Twilight" incident (from the PS2 game), which not only shook the game world, but also the real world. CyberConnect Corporation (CC Corporation), the creator and operator of The World, held a "Limited Edition Character" campaign for The World players and participants. The prize of the campaign is the Limited Edition Character itself: the legendary "Kite" and "Black Rose" from the ".hackers" data that was prohibited since the Twilight incident. A pair of twin brother and sister in 2nd year junior high, Shuugo (the elder brother), and Rena (the younger sister), successfully obtained the Legendary Characters from the campaign. Shuugo who wanted to quit playing the network game, once again had to set foot into The World under his sister's invitation. In the game world, Shuugo and Rena met other players, Mileyu and Houka and they quickly became close friends after several events and encounters. However, the seemingly peaceful game world began to meet with many weird changes resembled to the incident four years ago. But this time, Shuugo, Rena and their new friends are involved in it... I would also say Blackrose and Kite would be too young to have a kid of the twin's age sweatdrop

I'd still like to know why s/he thought what s/he thought. It's interesting to know why people think the things they do. I already know why it's unlikely (Kite and BlackRose are both...what was it, 17 in the games? .hack//Dusk takes place four years prior to the games, making them 21 and Shuugo/Rena...was it 12? I don't remember what ages correspond to Junior High years.) That's a severe time lapse. BlackRose and Kite would have had to have coupled at the age of 9 for that to work. I still want to know his reasoning behind the thought.
Wow, an empty paragraph that I summed up in the first sentence.
