The sixth and seventh years will take Herbology class in Greenhouse Three. G3, as it is referred to by Professor Simon, is where the most dangerous plants and the most exciting reside. Large, umbrella shaped plants hang from the ceiling over the two oak tables, enough for all those who achieved an 'E' on their Herbology O.W.L.s. Four picnic style tables that seat four are spread equally apart throughout the room. Dung-Brown work trays are on each table, one for each student.

Sixth Years will be working with some of the most dangerous plants known to wizard(and witch)kind. Also those that can steadily surprise you. This year will begin preparing you for your N.E.W.T.s next year. Mimbulus Mimbletonia is included in the syllabus for the year.

Seventh Years will exclusively be working with highly dangerous plants such as the Venamous Tentacula to help you prepare for your N.E.W.T.s at the end of the year. Also, you will complete homework assignments over things you have learned during your past years.

Soil sits underfoot and the sun blazes through the greenhouse roof.

Professor Simon inhaled the sweet smelling aroma of the greenhouses as she strode through the door inside. She had arrived here earlier than she should have, because she had wanted to prepare the greenhouse and put the needed items under her desk so she might pull them out when they were needed.

Bustling around, she casted a Levitating charm on a half dozen Mimbulus Mimbletonia and stashed them under her desk. They were for the sixth years, how she hoped they enoyed them! Professor Simon then hurried around, trying to locate the trio of potted Flitterbloom plants that she had ordered from Slugs and Jiggers in Diagon Alley.

After wrecking the room in her attempt to find them, Professor Simon flicked her wand in dumb realization and casted a locating and levitating charm. The three plants flew from their previous unnoticed spots and levitated themselves under her desk.

Turning around, Professor Simon pet down her hair as best she could and addressed the class. "Welcome back!"she said jovially. "I am honored to welcome you back to Herbology! Sixth years, thank you for choosing to continue in this wonderous subject and seventh years, thank you for not dropping out! Now, seventh years, feel free to space out."Seeing that her seventh years were in a world of their own, Professor Simon turned to the sixth years.

"As you all most likely know by now, your sixth and seventh years will be training you for your N.E.W.T. examinations at the finality of your seventh year. As that is two longs years off, we are going to focus on the here and the now. Being sixth years, I know trust you enough to work with some more delicate and a couple of dangerous plants. For today and the next few lessons, we will be using Mimbulus Mimbletonia."Professor Simon flicked her wand and the six pots containing the plant shakily levitated out from behind her desk.

The Mimbulus Mimbletonia were off-white and/or snot-yellow yellow coloured cacti looking plants. Bulbous purple, blue, and in some cases green boils were erupting from it's pores. "Now, I want you to come up here and retrieve a plant. Then, we'll get down to business.

"For this lesson, I want you to poke, prod, and pilfer as many of these boils as you can, recording what comes out. I know it sounds disgusting, but it is what I've had all the sixth years do in the past, ask the seventh years. Please wear your dragon-hide gloves. I don't want any unwanted accidents to happen."
Realizing that no one was moving, Professor Simon clapped her hands urgently. "Chop chop! We don't have all day!"Once the sixth years were occupied, Professor Simon addressed the seventh years.

"Right then, as you seventh years know, it is your N.E.W.T. year. You will have breakdowns, that is guaranteed. There was no one in my year back when I was a seventh year who didn't have at least a breakdown a month. It is a time-consuming and stressing time of all young wizard and witch lives. But, I'll try to make your final year in Herbology fun.

"This year, I trust you beyond all else to fully comprehend and use your previously gained skills to take care of the most dangerous plants known to magical kind. Devil's Snare, Venamous Tentacula, and the like. We will also be reviewing what you learned in past years to fully prepare you for your end-of-course examinations. So now, on with the lesson!"
Professor Simon flicked her wand again and the pots full of Flitterbloom levitated out from behind her desk. Hearing a few subtle gasps from the seventh years, Professor Simon smirked.

"No need to worry! This is only Flitterbloom. It looks exactly like Devil's Snare, but it is not dangerous at all like the killing plant. As it looks exactly like Devil's Snare and mostly acts like it - except for the strangling part - I have decided that it would be a good care project for the beginning of the first term. At the end of the third and final term, we will take care of real Devil's Snare.

"I want you to come up here and get a plant. I also want you to come up with a name for it and put it on the rim of the pot. It can be anything from Bobby or Joe to Hammurabi or Akhenaten. Just name it! Also, everyday no matter if you have this class or not, I want you to come down here to Greenhouse three and prune your Flitterbloom. Make it the happiest killer-look-alike there ever was. After you name it, you are free to work on your homework for you other classes. I'm just that nice."
Professor Simon smiled happily to her students.

Amelia was laughing silently to herself as Professor Simon was talking about the Flitterbloom and what she wanted the seventh years to do with it. It's the first time a professor wanted the students to name a plant but whatever floated her boat it didn't matter. After picking up her plant from the front and sitting back down at her table, Amelia's hand went into the air. "Professor when you say the Flitterbloom is exactly like the Devil's Snare with the exception of the strangling, doesn't that mean it's weakness is sunlight? And if that's so then how is the plant surviving in this lighted greenhouse?" .....

Professor Simon smiled. "Ah yes, as always a Ravenclaw is the first to spot what I leave out. Miss Rochelle, you are correct in some sense. Flitterbloom doesn't especially like sunlight, since it's relative is the Devil's Snare, but it can live with it if you keep up with the sun's cycles. When night falls, Flitterbloom will be perfectly content in the darkness, but since it is light it must act like a normal household plant."Professor Simon smiled, hoping that the seventh year got it.

Amelia went into a trance of deep thought when Professor Simon answered her question. Amelia didn't know much about plants magical and muggle but from what she did know plants needed water and sunlight to survive. It was always an interesting topic to find out how plants who didn't like sunlight would survive when if one thought about it in muggle science a plant needed sunlight so it could go through photosynthesis and make food for itself. "So you mean that the plant can survive in the sun as long as it is out during the points in time when the sun is weakest like the early morning and the late afternoon? Or is there more to it?" .....

Professor Simon nodded. "Right on the nose. Good job Miss Rochelle."Professor Simon smiled at the Ravenclaw. She was the only one who was interested in the lesson as of yet, hopefully some others will get inspired by the Ravenclaw's inquistiveness.

Professor Simon started to flitter around the room, checking on the other plants that live in the greenhouse. A hanging flower that was over her desk suddenly spit out a bunch of powder and she started coughing. How could she forget that a Coughing Brellaum was above her desk?!

"Everyone cover your mouths! Or else you will go into a serious coughing fit,"Professor Simon instructed through a couple of weezes. She took out her wand and clumsily flicked it. A weak Protego charm surrounded herself and the students. She let out a deep breath. "That should be okay for awhile."Professor Simon smiled at the class as if nothing had ever happened.

Amelia smiled. It was great when a teacher praised her for her efforts it meant that she was doing a good job. When the Coughing Brellaum started spraying out powder Amelia began to feel a tickle in the back of her throat. 'Brilliant a coughing plant better cover my mouth now before I get worse.' Holding her breath, Amelia reached down into her bag and pulled out a construction mask and put it over her mouth. Letting out the breath she was holding, Amelia then began to continue on working on the plant in front of her. 'Hm I'll think I name this plant.....Damien since it's similar to Devil Snare and very much so could be the son of the devil.' Writing 'Damien' on the rim of the pot, Amelia continued to examine and prune the plant until the bell rang to signal the next class. .....

Swaying slightly on the balls of her feet, Vlaityn pulled her dragon hide gloves on roughly while humming a melodic, melancholy tune to herself. It wouldn't be accurate to see she had natural talent when it came to Herbology, but Vlaityn did thoroughly enjoy the satisfaction and calm that came from being in fresh air and among plants. The earthy smell always reminded her of the field and woods that were located behind her old house back in Michigan.

After fetching her own Mimbulus Mimbletonia, Vlaityn placed the potted plant in front of her and inspected it. "Bit of a homely thing, aren't you?" She murmured in slight amusement to the cacti, which obviously had no intention of commenting back.

Flicking one of the plant's boils in a bored manner, Vlaityn surveyed the rest of the class to watch everyone else for a bit.

'Ah finally done' Amelia thought to herself as she finished done pruning the plant. Removing her dragon hide gloves and the mask she had put over her face when the Coughing Brellaum started to spray, Amelia stared around the classroom wondering if any other students showed up while she was working. Her eyes spotted Vlaityn working on the Mimbulus Mimbletonia. 'I keep forgetting that she is a 6th year and is working on different things than I am.' Amelia was about to go over and say hello but Vlaityn seemed to be really involved in her work. 'Oh well I'll see her at lunch.' Putting her things away and picking up 'Damien' Amelia carried the plant to the front of the class and set the plant in one of the shadiest areas that she could fine. Walking back to her desk, Amelia sat down and waited for the Professor to end the class. ......

Seth regarded his stubby cactus with disgust. Looking over at Vlaityn, he got an idea. He turned his cactus carefully so that one of the boils was facing her and drew his Sigan Dubh. (That's the little knife we Scotsmen keep in our socks at all times). Looking around surreptitiously, he poked it with the tip of the silver blade. The cactus immediately contracted and spewed a large amount of Stinksap at her. Seth ducked behind the table and waited, trying valiantly to stifle his laughter.

'Ah! Again where the heck did Seth come from?' Amelia thought nearly falling off her chair once again. 'My heart can't take much more of this.' Looking over to where Seth was sitting, Amelia noticed a wicked gleam in his eye as he aimed his Mimbelous Mimbletonia at Vlaityn and poked one of it's many boils. "FIRE IN THE HOLE!" Amelia yelled and ducked under the table at the same time as the plant spewed out its stinksap.

Damian walked into the classroom just a bit late, or rather what he thought of as late. He always liked to be five minutes early for his classes and today he was only three minutes early. But then again he only secretly obsessed over things like that. Taking a seat next to Vlaityn, he greeted her with a hug.

Once Professor Simon had given directions, he reached into his bag and pulled out his book on magical plants, some parchment, a quill and his dragon-hide gloves. He hated those gloves because he loved dragons so much, but knew that they were made from the skin of a dragon that had died long before wizards found it to make magical items from its body. It was, after all, wizard law that prevented people from hunting dragons as they had done in the past.

He got up, grabbed a plant, and placed it at his workstation. He then began the tedious task of poking the plant. As he poked with his left hand, his right hand wrote the results on the parchment. So far, he was a bit disgusted by the plant, but it was interesting-looking. Once he had poked it enough, he raised his hand to ask Professor Simon a question.

A grin sprawled across Vlaityn's face at the greeting hug from Damian. Most people were a bit too wary of her to even feign kindness. "Damian! I was wondering when you'd grace us with your presence. I was starting to get impatient." Vlaityn smirked slightly and cocked an eyebrow. Damian was extremely punctual for all classes. He was just less early today.

Her attention was yanked away from Damian as she hear a resounding 'FIRE IN THE HOLE!' from her opposite side. Vlaityn had turned just in time to see Seth and Amelia duck under a table as a large amount of disgusting plant pus hurling towards her. With a great splutter and splat, the slimy, unwelcoming liquid splattered across the forearm of her robes. 'My new, expensive robes. From Dad.' She growled to herself.

Flicking her wand at the mess, Vlaityn moved the plant pus Seth had launched at her into her container. At least she now had the rest of the lesson to herself. He had done her work for her.

Vlaityn regained her composure. The last thing she wanted was to appear a clown or overly dramatic. Sifting out Seth from his refuge, she shot him the most cold, hate filled stare she could. Every last bit of patience for the boy's oddity and temper drained out of her. 'Lord knows he'll pay for that later.' When extracting revenge, Vlaityn expected the perpetrator to pay in blood.

Dismissing the very thought of Seth from her mind, Vliatyn gave Amelia a small wave in gratitude for the verbal warning, and returned to her own plant.
