I can't imagine a tyrant/tease man restoring any confidence in a girl. If I had a guy like that, I'd drop him flatter than a pancake. I don't find a**-holes sexy.
What you can do to work with him is create more layers to his personality. By making him externally one or the other, you can work with a less shallow or callous personality in what he's like underneath.
All people have fronts they put on for other people to see, generally as a defense mechanism. You could have him hide another side that's underneath that's softer, braver, or more vulnerable. By putting more behind the tyrant/tease front you could really make him a complex, intricate character that you really have to get to know to understand, where he needs the girl for confidence just as much as she needs him. There's ALWAYS more to a character then meets the eye, especially one that is so a part of the main conflict. I guess the better word is arrogant...
I'm still trying to figure him out...which is the problem. I'm thinking that the band is going to be very internal, and they exude a lack of desire for anyone else to join them as if they don't need anyone else, but he does. I just need something to open his personality since his first telling scene is right at my finger tips. I like reading about arrogant guys, but I hate them as much as I love them.
As for the tease....I've played with teases before...and your right. I hate them, but for some reason I always make one XP
I do want to make him arrogant and perhaps a bit tyranical...I just wish there was something I could add to him that would make him likeable that didn't involve joking...
