Oscar’s Board Game

Rules:

1) Make a thread for your game. You may play alone or against others.

2) In a multiplayer game, when one finishes first this does not mean the other players are not able to continue. So you may choose to decide who wins according to who is first to finish or who has the higher awards. You must state this at the beginning, not make it up later to suit you, or awards will be canceled. The Game Master will take no sides in a dispute.

3) Post Action—Roll 1 6-sided die to make your moves.

4) Post what you landed on in the roll.

5) Keep running tallies of any gold, items or special events in progress,
such as looking for the kitten’s owner or fighting Baybun.

6) Rules for the following events are specified here in the rules:
a. Fishing
b. Find the Kitten
c. Recycle the Bottles
d. Battle Baybun

7) Bridges count as squares

8 ) If you land on a square with a hole, you fall into the hole, and will climb back out into the other square with a hole. This works in both directions.

9) To finish the game, the exact number to land on FINISH must be rolled, unless otherwise specified in the game by an event.

10) If too high a roll is made, the player must bounce back OUT of finish to make the complete move and land on a square to try again next turn. Ex: you are three moves from FINISH and roll a four. You must move four spaces, bouncing you back out one space.

11) Once reaching the FINISH square, be certain to accurately tally and post your total gold award to receive it.

Special Event Rules #1:
Recycling Bottles
1) There are bottles scattered on the pathway. Every time you land on a square with a bottle, you collect the bottle.

2) The bottles are turned in for recycling on the square labeled as the Recycling Center. You receive 5 gold for every bottle you have collected up to that point.

3) If you have to circle back through the board again after this and collect more bottles and again land on the Recycling Center, only the bottles you collected since landing there last count. You already turned in the previous bottles.

4) If you never land on the Recycling Center, you will not be paid for the bottles you collect.

5) Keep a running count of your bottles, and then the award if you land on the Recycling Center, to aid your Game Master.

Special Event Rules #2:
Fishing
1) If you land on the FISHING square, you can go fish in the river. Label your Fishing posts as such, please!

2) You may fish up to 5 times before rolling to move on.

3) The fish are bought by a fish dealer on the spot.

4) HOW TO FISH:
a. This is a Random Number game. Choose a number from 1 to 80 for every post in which you are fishing.
b. The number you receive determines what fish you have caught. Each type has a different value.
c. If you are unlucky and catch trash, the fish dealer does not want that. There is no payment for trash.

5) VALUES FOR FISH:
a. 1-10=Bass……….30 gold each
b. 11-20=Carp……...15 gold each
c. 21-30=Bluegill…..10 gold each
d. 31-40=Minnow…..2 gold each
e. 41-50=Trash……...0 gold each
f. 51-60=Dogfish…...5 gold each
g. 61-70=Catfish……20 gold each
h. 71-80=Trout……...50 gold each

6) In your final fishing post tally up your catch and keep this total in your running account. The Game Master will not be pleased by having to hunt through your posts searching for the amounts to award you when you finish.

7) Once you have fished 5 times, you must roll and move on. Any fishing above 5 tries will not be awarded.

Special Event Rules #3:
Find the Kitten
1) If you land on the square where the crying kitten stands, you have found the kitten. You will carry him with you until you find his owner.

2) If you land on the square where the little girl is looking for her kitten, you have returned the kitten to his owner.

3) Your reward for this good deed is to proceed to the FINISH without further rolling of the die.

4) If you do not land on the little girl’s square, you do not return the kitten. There is no penalty for failing to find the little girl in your travels.

5) Landing on the kitten more than once without returning the first kitten does not mean finding multiple kittens. There is only one kitten to return.

6) There is no gold reward for doing this generous deed. Teds of the League do not seek riches for their acts of kindness. She will help you in return for your deed, and that is your reward.

Special Event Rules #4:
Battle Baybun!
1) If you land on the BATTLE BAYBUN! Square, you have found the villain up to evil mischief and will attempt to punish him. You must do battle with him and defeat him before you can continue on your way.

2) If you win the battle, you are awarded 100 gold, for there is a bounty on Baybun’s evil head.

3) If you lose the battle, Baybun will snatch 20 gold from your pocket before he flees. You must then go back to the START and begin your journey again.

4) BATTLE RULES:
a. You must label every post during battle as being a Battle Post.
b. You and Baybun have 10 hit points each in your battle.
c. During battle you will roll 4 6-sided dice to determine the results of each exchange of blows.
d. Whoever reaches 0 hit points first is the loser.
e. DAMAGES:
i. Individual numbers determine the damages, not the total.
ii. Numbers 1, 3, and 5 each cause 1 point of damage to Baybun.
iii. Numbers 2, 4, and 6 each cause 1 point of damage to you.
iv. You both can, and probably will, take damages in each turn.
f. In each battle post, you will keep a running tally of the hit points of yourself and Baybun.
g. The battle will take as many turns as necessary for one or the other of you to be defeated.

5) In the final battle post, state who won.

6) If you lose, state you are STARTING GAME OVER.

7) The posts will continue in the same thread—starting a new game thread is not necessary.

8 ) If you have unrecycled bottles, or the kitten, you may keep those and use them in your new game as Baybun only steals gold.

Please study and follow the rules, teds!
I recommend keeping the Game thread open in one window or tab while you play your game in another window or tab--that will make it easy for you to view the board and consult the rules.

You might also print the board if it would help you to put a marker on it as you make your moves.

If you have questions about the game, please post them HERE.
