(The day of Dew's homecoming party)

As Blaze tended to the bonfire, it soon became clear to him that there wouldn't be nearly enough fuel to keep the fire going long enough to last into the night or create a bed of coals hot enough to properly cook meat. Picking up his hat, he headed down towards the tideline where driftwood had washed up with the intent of dragging some of the smaller peices back up to the fire. Some of the peices were almost up to his knees in diameter, and a uniform bleached white in the sun. The sun was but few hours above the horizon.

Savith had helped Dancer with some of her items earlier than day. The afternoon found him hiding from the heat of midday, only to emerge as late afternoon took hold. He flew from his 'nest' and surveyed the beach, intent on finding something useful to do. Ah! Blaze.

Savith angled himself into a descent, sending as he goes, **Fair winds, Fire-Starter. May I offer a hand with something?** The tone isn't cheerful or bright or airy, but it's cordial amiable almost.

It took Blaze a quick glance over his shoulder and a few moments of puzzled searching to realize where Savith was. Looking upwards briefly at the glider, Blaze kept walking, but returned the send with a grudging acceptance. **I could see how you might be usefull. Come and help me drag some of these.** He gestured looseley to the accumulated debris of wood and sea plants.

Savith nodded dutifully in reply and fell into floating-step with Blaze, hands folding behind his back. **How much are you thinking of needing,** he asked, eyes measuring out some of the larger pieces.

**At least half again what we originally had. Perhaps even just as much, maybe more. That is a rule to I like to follow with anything; if you think you have enough, get twice that amount.** He crouched down and picked up the first peice he came to, a piece almost as long as he was tall and a hand or so acrost. **Anything longer than this will stick out too far and make it unstable. I could burn a few in half, but I'd rather save my strength.** Dragging the log up the beach, he made no more effort at conversation, and lightly shielded his mind. If Savith expected Blaze to talk, he was going to have to talk first.

And the Silent Contest begins.

Savith nods at the directions and begins scouting for pieces that are similar to the size Blaze had indicated. He fluttered off to find the right type of pieces, and drug them as best he could closer to the party site before dropping it in the sand for Blaze to drag the rest of the way. He only sent to let the other know what he'd found and to check if it was right or not.

Blaze wasn't going to give in so easily. The only responses he gave were "Yes"s and "No"s, and as Savith fished peices out of the tangle, Blaze stepped up the pace, straining to keep far enough ahead of the Glider's efforts to be able to stand waiting for him, if even only for a few moments. At the gathering, he stacked the wood against a palm a little ways off from the fire, then hurried back. If it was going to be a competition, so be it.

Competition hadn't even entered Savith mind. He was narrowly focused in pulling as much driftwood of the right types as possible until Blaze called an end, or he'd found all the driftwood he could find. He found himself limited, however, by the size and weight of the pieces he could move, and encountered more than a few that gave him pause as he sorted out the best way to free them from their tangled spot without placing both feet on the ground to put the full force of his mind behind it.

The pile grew rapidly through their combined efforts, and Blaze began to reflexiveley shunt heat off his body as the labor and sun conspired to make him sweat. Growling against the weight of a heavy and somwhat crooked log, he steamed back up the beach, only to have a knot on the end of the log catch on a rock almost completeley buried in the sand.

(1 is best case, 6 is worst case)

The snag jerked the wood from his grasp, and as he fell forwards the heavy end came down acrost his foot, pinning it to the ground. If it hadn't been for the soft sand it might have caused a bad sprain or even a break, but instead Blaze was facefirst in the sand, unable to free himself without the risk of really twisting his ankle. He was still for a few seconds, then realizing what had happened and who was there to "help," he cursed, and puched the sand.

Savith was pulling another bit of wood to their trade-off point. He'd gotten used to Blaze being there to receive the pieec he was carrying so when the fire-starter wasn't there, it took Savith a moment to sort things through. The dark leather of his uniform never made it easy for him to move about for long stretches of time during the day, and while Blaze was able to shunt off the heat, Savith had merely tied his hair up into a knot on the top of his head and forced himself to continue moving, pressing past the start of his fatigue with dogged determination.

He glanced about and spotted Blaze face down in the sand. Dropping the branch he'd been carrying to the sand, the glider flew over quickly and hovered to survey the situation. **Stay still a moment,** he ordered, mind a touch fuzzy from the heat, as he reached out and grabbed the branch with his hands.

OOC: Die roll to lift branch. 1 = power failure, branch and Savith come crashing down. 10 = Savith hefts the branch up easily and flings it aside.

OOC: Forgot the die roll. here goes!

Savith clamped both hands around the branch and pulled up with his arms. He strained with the effort, not using his powers on the branch for fear that given the heat, he'd lose his grip on it and himself and make the situation worse. Hefting it just high enough for Blaze to get free, he sends again, the strain evident, **Okay. Move.**
PostPosted: Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:50 pm

Blaze had already bugun to move by the time Savith had sent, pulling his leg out from under the branch and hopping to his feet in a single quick jacknife. Rotating his foot a few times to make shure it wasn't hurt, he picked up his hat from were it had fallen, creased it back into shape, and slid it back onto his head. "Th' end caught on something. Fell." His voice carried more embarassement than he would have liked, and his face was red with more than heat as he bent over to pick the log back up.

Not only had Savith witnessed a stupid mistake, but he'd actually helped Blaze. it would have been less embarassing, in Blaze's mind, if Savith had left him to get out of it on his own.

Savith nodded, either ignoring the embarrassment or not noticing it. He let the log go when Blaze took it up, but kept his fingertips resting on it. It was with his mind, now that Elf was no longer beneath Wood, that he sought to pick the far end up enough to unstick it from what had caught it.

OOC: 1 = power failure. 20 = unsticks the branch with effort.

As Savith reached out his mind to lift the other part of the branch, his will crumpled, saying that it had had enough. Unable to pull the branch free, instead, Savith seems to stumble in midair, his flight leaving him for a half-heart beat. "Wha," was the breathy exclamation that escaped his lips as he refocused to catch himself. He blinked several times, sinking toward the ground even as a hand came up to his temple to ward off the growing headache.
