Alien Versus Predator: Roleplaying System

Welcome to the AvP Complex RP System thread. While this page is still currently under construction, you may still have some general questions about this system that I will answer shortly. Please, be reminded that if any of the questions in the FAQ portion of this post does not contain any information concerining the question at hand, feel free to post it within this thread. All I ask is you keep it well written and fairly intelligent as those are the only questions I will even bother to answer.

Please check the next post for the FAQ section.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What is the AvP Complex RP System?
A: This system is designed for the upcoming Alien Versus Predator Roleplay theme that will soon come to life. It was not only made for this purpose, however. It was crafted to create new fun and exciting feel to the RP, as well as make it easier to keep order and organization ontop of everyone's characters.

Q: How would it work?
A: I am planning on crafting a well thought-out chart that would be organized into three main categories (Humans, Xenos, and Yaujta) then further split into several sub-categories of weapons, abilities, and equipment. The main categories will allow you to 'purchase' your type of character, items, and special abilities using 'credits' (will go into further detail shortly). So if you decide to create a Human character, you will first have to choose which Class you wish to be. Here is a small chart to use as an example:

Human
- Civilian
- Scientist
- Militant
- Synthetic

Though it may seem very limited on your options, each Class has their own "Job" that they may also choose from (Civilians/Synthetics can be Engineers, Cooks, ect. and Scientists can be Doctors, Researchers, ect.). The Militants do not have Jobs to choose from but instead utilize "Ranks". With higher Ranks, your character is allowed to use better weapons and equipment, as well as have more liberties to use.

Q: What are credits and how do I earn them?
A:
Credits, the form of currency for this system, will be used to purchase items, weapons, and abilities to help customize your character to your liking and still keep the balance between the players. The big question is this: how do we get them? Simply enough, the basic principle behind it is just to post in the RP and remain fairly active. Other factors will come into play on calculating the credits you have earned when you RP (more to come on that), but here is a short list on everything that will be reviewed for the evaluation.

Number of IC Posts
Length of Post
Description and Imagery
Fluency of Post
Proper Spelling and Punctuation

Number of IC Posts - Pretty simplistic point here, you will have the amount of posts you have sent to the thread evaluated on for the final credits you earn. This one will not be of too much importance, so even if you scarcely get a chance to RP often, this will not overall kill your chance to earn a bushel of credits. Also, if you make an Out of Character post with aboslutely nothing involving your character (thoughts, actions, ect.), that post will not count towards the evalutation.
Length of Post - One of the key methods of earning credits is how much involvement is going on with your character. Several actions and well thought-out posts will surely count towards more credits being earned.
Description and Imagery - Many people may consider this to be the more difficult part of earning credits, but surely, if one worked enough at it, you could soon learn to better yourself as an RPer with more fluid language and gain a better grasp and skill at entrancing the reader with vivid imagery of your character and the situation at hand. This is also one of the key methods of credit earning.
Fluency of Post - To keep the events of your character from clashing with one another from simple mistakes in fluent writing structure and conflicting story plot-holes can be HIGHLY difficult for many RPers, so I will judge very leniently when it comes to this portion of your posts. If you do manage to keep it highly fluent, though, you will be awarded a few more credits and a pat on the back. biggrin
Proper Spelling and Punctuation - Last but not least, another key portion of not earning credits, but MAINTING them. I feel, as do others I'm sure, that if you do type, you ought to make sure what exactly you are typing is legible and easy on the eyes. No, I am not demanding that you type as I do, but if a moderator who is calculating credits for your post and has a difficult time reading it due to your laziness, you will be penalized many of your already earned credits.

Q: How often would the moderators calculate my posts for how much credits I've earned?
A:
Every single day, but we will figure up the sum of a week's worth of posts before we post your credits that you've earned for that week as well as the credits the other RPers have also accumulated in Credits Posting Board.

Q: "Credits Posting Board"? What is that?
A:
A relatively new idea that consists of a locked thread that only the moderators will have access to, where they will then post every RPer's amount of Credits that they have earned for that week. If this idea is not well recieved, then I will have the mods send PMs to every player instead.

Q: So what exactly will I be able to choose from? What races, classes, and weapons will I use?

Well, glad to see you brought the idea back. I hope all goes well, and if you don't get a banner by the time I finish questing for the labcoat I'd be willing to pitch in some gold to hire a Gaian artist if you wanted. o_O

Sounds pretty cool man. But if you had ranks, wouldn't you also have rank posting?

Bah, sorry for the late reply.

Rank "Posting"? I'm not a full fledged militant, so explain.

Its when people post completly random and useless crap just to get higher in rank.

I'll just add this thought...it can be shot down and completely dismissed if its not liked. But aside from the ability to climb through the ranks, don't you think (Insert Username Here) or Iriving or whomever else mods/governs this RP could assign ranks or prestige to the players based on skill or time in the guild?

Sounds weird perhaps, but like in the past Iriving, BG or Hayabashi have assigned themselves the role of Pred Elder or Alien Queen, surely we could be given starting ranks based on activity in the guild

But then I guess that's aiming for some hardcore realism as I'm not sure how that could work for the Xeno species. But it would be cool to have a higher ranked "officer" in the RP talk to his/her superior about your abilities to get you a promotion, or do have the Elder blood you or transfer some type of honor on your abilities.

Sorry to be rambling, I'm not very interested in how well the military squad is gonna function with all the liberty needed for an RP. *will be visiting back here repeatedly to annoy everyone*

Just to get this out of the way... You'll find it's normal for the RP's owner to give their character a high rank so they have more control over getting the plot started. It's not about things like "oh yeah, I'm the s**t and you guys have to listen to me!"

Sorry if it came out that way, but I didn't mean it in that sense. Occasionally I get a head of myself when writing and thinking on the fly. I fully understand the fact that you do those things for the sole purpose of controlling your storyline.

I was just using that as an example of how things could work. Like you, or Hayabashi or (Insert Username Here) could get things rolling and take on the rank of a Queen, Elder or General/Sgt. whatever. From there other key figures could be ranked and everyone else would need to rise through the ranks

Bebi, thats actually a pretty good idea. But higher ranks should be given out to older members who actually know what the hell they are talking about. And having lower ranking members report to higher ranking members might keep things more organized. Just throwing this out, but having to go to a higher ranking person to get promoted would get rid of rank posting completly. If this actually works out, I'd be happy to help with the military side.

Hmm...I'll give it some thought.

Firstly, though, I'd like to apologize for my inactiveness. Been running in and out of the Hospital and all that greatness, so the few times I am on are usually just to see how things are going. I will try my damndest to at least explain up to the point where you are actually well informed about the system and should leave you questionless, so just bear with me for these few weeks/months.
