The dark towers rose high into the blackened sky. The growling clouds seemed to form from the tops of each tower and spread their darkness outward. The sun was blocked completely, as well as any glimpse of blue, and always snow fell to the ground. Always it was dark and dreary and cold, since the towers had erupted through the ground like spires of onyx rock. The evil Demon Lord had built them himself with his wicked magic, and he used them to destroy all that was good.

The oppressed people were scattered in hiding, while evil beastly demons reveled in the new world order. Only a few brave individuals had the will to fight. Secretly they gathered in the hopes of destroying the Demon Lord himself, and with him is towers of dark, and his crooked underlings.

Otto squinted against the harsh wind of the blizzard. Wrapping herself deeper into her deep fur coat she push on through the snow storm. It was stupid of her to get caught out, since she'd known it was coming. But the town she'd been in before had become unsafe for her, and she really couldn't afford to stay within its limits any longer. However, unless she could find some shelter she was in just as much danger. Night was approaching quickly, and temperatures would drop beyond her toleration. With the wind blowing and snow flying she couldn't use her ears, eyes, or even her nose to help her navigate. She had to at least find a tree or a large rock to shelter behind and curl up.

She searched as she could for any shape or shadow that might serve as an obstacle to the wind. Every time she caught sight of such a form however it would disappear a moment later, having been only a trick of the storm. Desperately she continued to search.

Ren huddled down in the ruins of a ghost town. Most of the buildings had been wooden and were now to flattened to serve him as a shelter. There was one wall of one stone building though that stood high enough for him to use it. With some difficulty he had build a fire cols to the wall, and now he sat curled up with his back to the wall and the fire in front of him. The wind was howling all around him as full darkness descended. It would be difficult to detect movement or sound, but Ren hoped that the storm would keep away any demons who might mean him harm. He couldn't afford in this cold to not build a fire, but fire had a tendency of attracting things in the night. So rather than trying to sleep, Ren kept his eyes scanning the chaos of the snow storm, searching for shapes moving against the wind.

Otto stumbled and stopped, focusing off in the distance. She was certain she'd seen a light. She had to plant her feet wide so the wind wouldn't nock her over. She widened her eyes to allow more light in. Yes, there! Hope and relief washed through her. Flickering far off through the heavy snow was a dim light. She began moving at once in that direction, keeping her eyes opened as often as possible so as not to loose sight of it. She was already out of breath, and under her coat she was sweating, though her limbs and head were all frozen. She gritted her teeth and pushed sideways against the wind as she walked. The heavy wet snow on the ground seemed to become more insistent as it drug at her feet. The muscles all through her body her painfully tense and her legs as she pushed along were aching almost unbearably.

At first it seemed as though the light never grew closer, and she began to dread that perhaps there was something wrong with her eyes. She kept going towards the lights, and slowly she began to perceive it growing.

Finally she could see the light as it was, a small fire shielded by a one wall. Next to the fire was a figure that she couldn't quite see. Though she desperately wanted to warm up by that fire and rest, she approached cautiously.

Ren saw solid shadow off to his side. He watched it out of the corner of his eye, staying still. The figure shifted around slightly, but for the most part stayed still. As the firelight flicked he could see it reflected in the figure's eyes. Whatever it was was watching him. Though the figure wasn't big, he still stayed on guard. Sometimes the smaller demons were the most dangerous ones. This creature wasn't moving like a hungry or territorial beast though. He decided to take a small risk by speaking above the wind.

"You won't get shelter if you just stand there."

Otto jumped as the figure spoke. From were she was she could tell he was a humanoid type, but her nose was failing her in the wind. He had invited her into his shelter, sparse as it was, and so hesitantly she went forward. The wind let off as she got behind the wall and imidiatly her sense felt free again. She smelt that he was human, and so felt safer than before. Humans could be dangerous for sure, but they usually weren't such a threat that she couldn't take care of her self. Keeping her eyes on the man she sat next to the fire.

Ren watched as the young girl sat down. She was some kind of hybrid, and didn't look too dangerous.

"Are you hungry?" He asked, reaching for his travel pack. It was habit from his childhood for him to share food along with a fire.

Otto accepted the offered food slowly, keeping her eyes on the human, but smiling greatfully. "Thank you," she said. "My name is Otto," she offered as she began to nibble on the food.

Ren smiled a little, "I'm Ren," he said. He turned his attention back to the storm, watching still for any danger. One thing was deffinately certain; with this girl there, he wouldn't be sleeping.

Otto smiled back at the man when he gave her his name. Then silently she continued to eat the traveling food. She watched him under her lashes as he looked back into the storm. He was watchful, gaurded, and she felt a little safe with him around. She was exauhsted from her fight through the blizard, and felt reasonably confident that she'd wake up if anything approached her. So after she ate she thanked Ren and then curled up tight next to the fire to sleep.

Ren managed to stay awake through the night without problem. He'd long since gotten used to going without sleep for a while. The storm died down near dawn, allowing Ren to let the fire die down a bit too. He'd leave once the hybrid girl woke up. It wouldn't do to leave her alone while she was sleeping.

Otto woke up feeling sore all over. It didn't take her long to remember the previous night, and whe she did she sat up immidiately and looked around. To her suprise Ren was still there, even though the storm was over and the fire had died down. It was early morning, so the sun was just coming up. "Did you stay awake all night?" she asked, noticing that he was in the same position he had been in since she layed down.

Ren nodded. "I usually sleep around noon." He answered. Noon was when the sun was at its highest and therefor a time when most demons were also sleeping away in their shelters. "Where are you headed?" He asked.
