ok, i've heard ask a dozen people why they get tattoos and you'll get a dozen answers. so why do you get tattoos....
for me it's an experssion of my inner self on my skin....showing my soul for the world to see.

I see tattoos and piercings as a form of decoration and Im a very vain person! I always need to look my best so I like to decorate my body with beautiful pieces of art smile all of my tattoos have meaning behind them and all mean something special to me, my next one is going to be symbolic of my love for my son (as yet unborn although last sunday was a close call!) I just like art and I like wearing art, eventually I'll have full sleeves done and they'll look amazing!

I sat here and thought about this, it is kind of a combination of wearing your heart on your sleeve, and being a walking canvas. I also got very addicted to the adrenalin rush, that you can get on some of the bigger pieces.
My first one, a small peacock, was done as kind of a "SEE GIRLS CAN GET THEM TOO!" thing. My oldest brother was 20 yrs older than me and in the navy, so when I was old enough (around 3 yrs old that I can remember), I started noticing his tattoos, I said that I wanted one, he said "Girls don't get tattoos" Now keep this in mind, this was in the 60's when he said that. I think I ended up with more than him, lol.

To me, its a form of expressing myself to the world. Tattooing is a special form of art that doesn't easily disappear or easily degrade over time unlike paintings and such. Also the feeling/rush of getting one is quite addictive according to my relatives. And of course, how nice would it be to have something beautiful on your body forever?
My first tattoo would probably be an angel since I know someones been watching over me through so much... its going to be drawn anime style because of my passion for anime and anime art itself. I'll be getting several pieces of the same concept but I'll also add different elements (e.g. fire, water, wind) to each piece I will get because each one will be placed in a certain spot that associates with that element. For example, a water anime angel on my side to remind me to always let my body flow free like water. (I'm a martial artist xd )

I have people ask me that too, and it gets annoying because most of them aren't meaning it curiously, they say it in that tone like 'why would you scar your body forever?'
But honestly, i don't have a deep answer because not all my tattoos are deep and meaningful, i see them as the best decorations your body can have, and piercings are jewelry.

hmmm...
I believe a tattoo should have personal meaning to the tattooed person. Symbolize a significant chapter in their life.
Thats why I got mine. Its my zodiac... I've ALWAYS wanted a tramp stamp and love my zodiac so I got it.
My pinup represents pretty much EVERYTHING I wanted to be:: Admired, Independant, Strong, and of course, gorgeous.

Well for one, it means something to me..
I also love feeling like a canvas.. especially when I drew my own design. smile
Ever since I got my tattoo.. I felt more secure in my own skin. I felt "prettier".. like what I was seeing in the mirror was the real me for the first time.

I want either a scorpion, or a cobra tattoo on my right shoulder. I want it because i've always thought of my family as cobras or scorpions, - quick to strike, venomous, always defended. my mom tells me i was born with the venom of my family. my grandmother pursued and successfully shot my aunts ex husband because he gave her a concussion [she took that ******** to court and got a helluva lot of money.] , - I've watched my grandmother tear grown men down into tears, great grampa was a notorious bank robber, moms a hardened prison guard, cousins are all state champ wrestlers, LOTS of recovered alcoholics, i come from a tough a** family. and i want to show that through a tattoo. though i'm not proud of everything, i do regard it as a part of me. and i know i'll always be able to defend myself and get through everything because i have that venom and those fangs that were passed to me.
I already have two swallows on my hips, to symbolize a safe return home every night in sailors lore.
I get tattoos to express myself. that's all.

Hmm. Why I have always wanted a tattoo.
I think that tattoos are form of art. A piece that has meaning or is simply just beautiful to look at. I've always drawn on myself since I was little. I loved the way it looked on my skin. So getting a tattoo was my way of permanently drawing on myself. Sure it hurts, and yeah it will be with me forever.. But what's better than expressing yourself inside and out? Art will always be a part of my life. Both permanent and on paper. =]

Hmmm well I find when you get a tattoo it should always mean something to you.....don't get it just cause you think it's cool (that's how I feel anyways). I got my heart tattoo because it's like my signature, I draw hearts on everything. I also buy just about anything with a heart on it. I am obsessed with hearts lol. The angel wings stand for a few thing. Freedom to do what we want and it signifies my mother....she's got a thing for angels so ya my wings stand for her.....she's always been there for me so ya it's a little piece of her on me forever biggrin

Well, I want my tattoos because they're permanent symbols of things in my life that I'd like to remember more fully. I'm planning on getting pawprints done for each cat I have (My cat Lolly has been with me for 75% of my life so far - that's fifteen years) in memory of their comfort and support. I'm getting a black cat on my shoulder to symbolise transition and curiosity and hope. I'm getting a pair of cats on my lower back for love and trust. I'm getting a question mark on my left ankle for openmindedness and quirk. I'm maybe getting a broken angel (sitting with knees to chest and head down, and wings spread up and back, maybe with some feathers missing) on my left lower side to symbolise that bad things have happened, and that they're part of me too..but through it all there was a part of me surviving. Not happy but surviving. Ideally it will expunge the last of the hurt in those memories. Realistically I think I'm still too...young...to get that one done. Lastly, I'm maybe getting a vineish asymmetrical but equally balanced design done on my right hip, although that one doesn't have any meaning that jumps out at me.
All of them will be gorgeous, and all of them will be treasured, and they'll all be art, but they'll also be significant in different ways.
