Neferreswet perched on the stone temple where she'd been living since she'd hatched, eagerly looking around. Today seemed a good day to try flying. She stepped out to the ledge, and took off as she'd seen the other Khensu do, flapping more than the older Khensu did, but still managing to stay aloft for a decent amount of time.

After a few minutes of flapping around, she landed at her roost, clumsier than the other birds, but still managing to land painlessly. She didn't realize other Khensu were watching, otherwise she would have attempted her flight and landing with more grace and dignity than she'd actually achieved.

"You know you aren't old enough to fly, yet," Khepri said to the young check nestled near her feet. The adult female had her eyes focused on the black-and-pink chick, who was teetering on the edge of the stone temple. He seemed determined to fly, despite the fact that his wings were hardly even close to fully-formed and functional. "I can do it!" he snapped, so sure of himself that he was inching dangerously close to falling. Khepri, annoyed with how insistent the chick was, but ever-gentle, simply sighed.

"You can't, yet. I never said you couldn't, ever. You're wings aren't big enough to fly right now, Mdjai," she told him softly, offering a croon as she reached out with one wide wing to pull him back. Mdjai was irritated with Khepri's insistence, however gentle, and attempted to n** her wing -- but the adult female was too fast. She pulled her wing up and out of the way, shaking her head and clicking her beak with irritation. "You try that again, Mdjai, and I won't be around to save you from breaking your neck," she stated firmly. But, Mdjai didn't seem to care; the insisten chick waddled back to the edge of the temple and peered down, as if sizing up the distance to the ground.

Surprised to hear two other Khensu, Neferreswet looked around slightly embarrassed at her clumsy attempt at flight, but was somewhat relieved to realize they hadn't noticed her clumsiness. Curious about what they were discussing, she sidled closer, her silvery talons clicking softly and crisply on the stone in the early morning air.
