Should XIII be turn-based?
  Yes! That's classic Final Fantasy.
No! I like the way they were going with XII.
  Eh, either way's fine.

I am just getting more and more excited about XIII. I have new news!

www.finalfantasy-xiii.net
Final Fantasy XIII will return to the old Final Fantasy turn-based system. This means you will control each of every party members turns with no Gambit system like FFXII.

[XIII] is being written so each main character feels like a protagonist instead of a supporting character.

Apparently the morale of the team working on [Versus] is really high, which is always good to know.

The Prince's eye colour has been changed from Red to Blue.

The names of the Prince and Skirt Girl will be revealed at this years Tokyo Game Show in October.

[Agito's] battle system will still use turn-based combat but will be more focused on action. The game will be using a more high-speed version of Crisis Core's ATB system.

The Summon Odin can be seen in the Agito scan and the game will focus strongly around them. The summons are part of the character growth system and can also be controlled by players.

...[Agito] was always being planned for release on PSP but the announcement a few weeks ago was to show that the PSP development had taken priority.

In the Final Fantasy Agito XIII world, the PAX CODEX (a peace treaty) has been broken by Cid from a neighbouring country who has sent "Lucy" or "Lucies" to invade the other. We aren't sure what a Lucy is but I'm sure we'll find out eventually. Little more is new in the article but at least now we know the basis of the storyline and that Cid will be present in at least one of the Fabula Nova Crystallis titles.

As exciting as all this news is, I think my favorites are the first two bits. I have previously expressed both my love of turn-based battle and my frustration that some characters just fade into the background, so... I'm happy. biggrin I am also quite excited, though, to find out especially the Prince's name. I kind of hope it does turn out to be Storm.

I wasn't sure whether to make a new topic... I figure if we make one every time there's news, that could get out of hand, but the subforum needs some variety in its titles.

Awesome~ blaugh

I liked the XII battle system, but I'm glad they're going to make XIII turn based. The way they're been making new FF games, I was kinda worried that they'd completely ditch the turn-based system.

I can't wait to have a name for the Prince. Hopefully he'll look like less of a Sasuke clone with blue eyes. rolleyes

I know; I'd almost assumed they had. I guess most gamers prefer fast-paced to strategy, but that's why we have RPGs! I think, anyway. If it got much more actiony than XII, I'd start sucking at it.

Um... how did I not even notice how much he looks like Sasuke before? He's even pretty close to the duck-a** hair. Wow. They said before his eyes and hair change color; I wonder if they ditched that or it's just his main eye color changing.

Even Dirge of Ceberus and Kingdom Hearts would sometimes be difficult for me. sweatdrop

I remember reading that they'd planned on changing his outfit, too, but I haven't heard anything else about it, so maybe it was just a rumor. It's too bad, because his clothes make him look so emo. confused

Oh I'm so excited!!!! Although I don't have a PS3 I should go out and buy a PSP. Agito is the one I'm truly looking forward to. The CC battle system (though highly controversial between fans) was terrific in my opinion. The attacks were quick and very fluent. I can't wait!

The regression to the old turn based battle system should be interesting as well. I'm anxious to see the improvements they've made upon the original.

Yeah, I never played Dirge, but it looks too intimidating to even try. I just watch over my brother's shoulder. biggrin All I ever heard about the outfits is that they're designed by a real clothes company, so I guess it's their decision.

You should get a PSP! You'll need it for Birth by Sleep too. (You play Kingdom Hearts, right? *can't remember sweatdrop *) I have a good feeling about XIII's battle system, though with absolutely no reason. I guess I'm an optimist.

Created by real designers? That's pretty cool. blaugh

A PSP is totally worth it. Plus, you could play Crisis Core, War of the Lions and Dissedia (if that one makes it here), in addition to Agiato and Birth by Sleep (and, you know, any other non-FF games xd ).

I'll be optimistic with you. 3nodding I just hope there isn't a job system, or that if there is a job system, it's like X and not like X-2...

Here's more information...

http://finalfantasy-xiii.net/
Speaking about the eyes, the main female lead can be seen to have violet coloured eyes. So does the prince. We had the initial impression that he had red coloured eyes. From the new images, his eyes are blue. Will he have blue eyes normally?

Normua: Yes. His eyes will only turn red at some special occasion. (Triggered by something)

As for the female lead, is it the same for her??

Normura: Surprisingly, she is a rather shy person. (laugh)

Can you explain what is happening in the scene from the images released?

Normura: The scene takes place at a party. This is the first time they have met each other. Initially, I wanted to make a scene that showed them introducing themselves. Even though we tried our best, we still cannot release their name to the public. Sorry. We will try to screen that scene at TGS if possible.

Are there other people in the room?

Normura: Actually, the rest of the party is downstairs. The Prince came upstairs to hide from the noise and crowd. Initially, he thought that there wouldn't be anyone on that floor, but he was surprised to see the female lead. (She is looking at the drawing hanging on the wall)

What is the painting about?

Normura: It is still a secret

What is the skeleton that is holding the painting?

Norumra: This country believe in a Shinigami (Death god). Based on the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos.

The Prince's outfit is based on the design by the creative director of Roen. What is the reason for this co-operation?

Normura: This is to express the higher level of realism. If we based it on an actual real subject, it will feel more real.

What will happen to the the initial outfit?

Normura: Initially, we just designed this outfit based on the script to give a visual impression. That's it. As we create more scenes, the outfit will change. The car will have a new design too and the Prince will look like someone who goes to a high class pub.

You said it yourself! (laugh)

Normura: The game will have this dialogue too! (referring to prince going to pub)

Will the female lead say that?

Normura: She is a very polite girl. She will not say those things to someone who she's met for the first time. To express this characteristic, the way she speaks will have some prominent trait.

The team you are working with are excellent!

Normura: Yes, it is a very great team. I'm full of anticipation and the team spirit is very high!

Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with ROEN so far, but I'm also glad we don't have to miss out of Nomura's clothing designs for the rest of FNC.

How could I have forgotten about the other games?! Apologies to them...

Oh, as much as I like the concept, I don't want jobs in XIII. It just wouldn't seem right (though here I go making unfounded preconceptions again).

XIII looks like it going to be great, i like the fighting style in XII but i also like the old turn based action. i guess i can't let the classics die lol.

Really, I think it's more that I have no life. xd

I like his clothing designs (usually) but I think, for the type of game Versus seems to be, that a more realistic look would suit best. I don't really wanna be running around in cars and pubs with clothing like the rest of FF on, y'know?

I don't think I'd mind jobs if they were like in X, where every character has a set one and you can switch characters mid-battle if you want to switch jobs (or like International Zodiac System, I guess). I definately don't see jobs working unless there's only three characters.

Yeah, the clothes definitely fit the setting and mood. But so long as I didn't have to stick around to answer questions, I would totally do that. ^^

Wait, if there were only three characters, you wouldn't be able to do it like in X or International Zodiac System. You mean if there were only three?

Whoops, made it confusing. sweatdrop

Basically I was trying to say that I wouldn't want a job system in the style of X-2, V, Tactics, etc (where each character can have mulitple jobs, and you can only decide which characters to use before battle) unless there was a very small number of playable characters (like three or four). However, if they wanted to have a job system like there is in X or IZS (where you have a large number of characters with set jobs that can be interchanged in the middle of battle) I would kina like that.

I bet it'll be like VII, though.

Ah, I see. That makes sense now. If they do make jobs, I don't really have a preference for how, but my first choice system would be something like VII.

I do play Kingdom Heart here and there. Though I've never beaten the game myself I've seen it beaten many times. No, Dirge wasn't intimidating. It's actually quite simple in terms of combat.

I really ought to try it; it's sitting with my other games by the TV... At some point, I will.
