Well, if she wants to dance and drink all night... Late one night, in the main Intelli-thread, a few regulars devised a brilliant plan! We should send a journal around between all interested Intelli-threaders, so we could have a real-world object that represented the thread. The project is currently only in the planning stages, but I have demanded insisted upon volunteered to organize this, as well as starting it by acquiring the journal and sending it out.
I am imagining that the way it would work would be: Person A would get the address of Person B, and send it to them. Person B get the address of Person 3, and send it on. So each person would only have the address of the next person, and the return address of the previous one. This seems like the safest way to do it, and I am willing to maintain a list of people who are participating, and organize who will send to whom.
AS Gent mentioned a page or two in, does anyone want to request to be next to someone in particular? Feel free to do so, if you are more comfortable that way.

I likes it. Journal + Tophat + Teddy Bear? So we can add stuff to the bear? Depends on how much a top hat will cost to ship. =/
That let me into bluebeard's study.

I absolutely love this idea. May I request - if you are able to get one - a particular journal/notebook? There is a lovely range in a shop near me that are made to look like old-fashioned novels, and I immediately thought how fitting they would be. I will need to check what they are called next time I go in order to look them up online, though.
About the hat, a box large enough for a top hat would be expensive to send (esp. internationally), and may elicit questions from the parents of some of the younger threaders. Much as I am absolutely horrified by the tackiness of them, perhaps a collapsible top hat would be a more realistic option, so it could fit into a large envelope.
Unless people really want to add objects, I think adding things into the journal would be enough - people can stick in photographs and drawings if they wish, or other simple decorative things, scrapbook-style. 3nodding
I'm a little sad that we didn't think of this idea earlier in the life of the thread - there are a lot of people who were a big part of it who are no longer about. emo

Yes, yes, and yes! That's an excellent idea! I'd just have to be a bit sneaky to intercept the thing so that my parents don't start asking any unnecessary questions.

I love this idea but also agree that a full top hat would be impractical and a crazy amount to ship. And it would probably get mail damaged fairly quickly. I dunno about other places, but in the US the hiked international package shipping prices a lot.
This reminds me of the Nana project that clone-army did. They sent around a plushie and each person got her for a week and was required to submit pictures of Nana's adventures with them.

Lemur: That's why I only have to ask my mom's permission, and not my dad's. He is not going to know about it. rofl sweatdrop
My mom was recently doing something like this with some people she knew, although they went to the lengths of including a box. It wasn't a HUGE box, probably wouldn't've fit a good-sized top hat, but big enough for a few cat toys and some food.
Like, how much would shipping be..? And ought we start or end with Gent?

I would say end with Gent. Since he started the thread, he should be eventual recipient of the hat.
That let me into bluebeard's study.

Maybe instead of a real one we could just have the first page or two of the journal be a bunch of drawings/stickers of top hats?

Well, if she wants to dance and drink all night... That is a good idea Skizz.
I think sending an actual hat would be way too expensive and impractical, even though it would be cool.
So we could start with just the journal, in an envelope, but if someone wanted to send something larger specifically to the next person, they could arrange a larger shipping package themselves.
Maybe that'd work? ...Oh, there's no one that can stop her.

Wouldn't sending something specifically to one person just be like normal mail, though, and not really have anything to do with the journal..? sweatdrop
Depending on what the shipping rates are, maaaaybe we could order the list so that people who ARE willing to pay the extra shipping money to send the thing around go last? That way, anyone who wants to just mess with the journal but can't pay to ship a box out, can go first and avoid it.
EDIT: AND IF ANYONE WAS CONSIDERING DOING THIS WITHOUT POSTCARDS, YOU ARE HELLA MISTAKEN. scream

The idea of putting anyone who wants to add items/is willing to pay more postage near the end is a good one, I think. 3nodding May I be greedy and ask if I can be first with the journal after Pheebs? I would love to put a note at the beginning expressing my ardent love for you all! heart
And postcards are a lovely idea, particularly as we are all scattered about in different places in the world. whee
I think the shipping would be cheap if it was only something the size of a small book. I'm quite certain it would only cost a few pounds for me to send something of that size to the US, and postage within the US is likely to be less, if the rates are comparable.

Everyone should put in a drawing or doodle of something, preferably involving a top hat in one section of the journal, then take a page or two to write a bunch of happy good things.
Photographs, post card, etc. are an excellent idea.

Well, if she wants to dance and drink all night... Gent - Maybe since you are the founder of the thread, and you have those journals near you that you would like to use, you could start it?
Skizz - I meant that someone could send the journal along with something larger, if the wished.
Lemur - I like the idea of having a top hat specific section!
I still just don't see the top hat working very well. Because it wouldn't fit into the mailbox, for me at least it would require either waiting by the mailbox for the postman, so I could give him the box, or going to the post office 30 minutes away to mail it. ...Oh, there's no one that can stop her.

If I might chime in... I've nothing but love for this idea. Let's see some real-world postage!
Just tell me who needs my address.
