arrow Follow Gaia's TOS! Please keep things PG-13 and be nice to one another.
arrow Follow the rules the topic creator has set up, and use common sense for the rest.
arrow If your RP is based on an anime series, please state how far in the series it's set. That will prevent spoilers for newbies and help veterans adjust to the correct time setting.
arrow Set up visible warnings for things like mature content, shonen-ai/yaoi and shoujo-ai/yuri.
THE DICTIONARY
question Casual RP
An easy RP that's just for fun. Usually doesn't have any rules at all. The one we have in this subforum is for practicing and exercising one's RP skills.
question Canon
An original character that belongs to the series, like Kakashi or Naruto. It's also used to say the story follows the series timeline, and the characters' are acting like they do in the original series.
question Char
Short form of character for lazy people.
question IC
In Character; a character that's true to the qualities of the canon/original series.
question Literate
Someone who posts in paragraphs with advanced and accurate spelling and grammar, possibly with a plot if it's in an RP.
question OC
Original/Own Character; a character made up by the author. Usually portraits what the author wants to be. It's very difficult to create a credible OC that's well received by the readers.
question OOC
Out-Of-Character; a character doing things that is too different from the canon to be believable, or when a character does something he/she would never do in the series i.e. Kakashi showing his face. OOC are usually disliked except for in crack-fics, or in the odd instance when it's well written and made believable.
question Mary-Sue/Marty-Stu
Unbelievable OC (Mary is for girls, Marty for boys), i.e. a Naruto OC that knows every jutsu, has a Sharingan in one eye and a Byakugan in the other, is extremely sexy but really nice, is a genius, the best at taijustu, genjustu, and ninjustu, and pretty much the most unrealistic character. Usually based on how the author wants to be. Many people hates Mary-Sue's so you might want to watch out with your OC's.
question Non-con
Non-consentual sex. In other words, rape. Is sometimes seen in fanfiction and is mostly rated as Mature content depending on the details.
question Slash
Refers to romantic same-sex relationships in RP, fanfics and fanart. Is mostly used in reference to boy/boy relationships and is equivalent to shonen-ai/yaoi/shoujo-ai/yuri.
question Shonen-ai
Trans: Boy's Love. Mostly used in fanfiction and describes a romantic relationship between two boys, or men. This term is for fluffy romance and covers everything up to hot kissing and making out. Most of their clothes should stay on, otherwise it's traipsing into the yaoi category.
question Shoujo-ai
Trans: Girl's Love. Mostly used in fanfiction and describes a romantic relationship between two girls, or women. This term is for fluffy romance and covers everything up to hot kissing and making out. Most of their clothes should stay on, otherwise it's wandering into the yuri category.
question Yaoi
Mostly used in fanfiction to describe a romantic and/or sexual relationship between two boys, or men, with more sexual content than shonen-ai. This term incudes both explicit and implied sex.
question Yuri
Mostly used in fanfiction to describe a romantic and/or sexual relationship between two girls, or women, with a higher sexual content than shoujo-ai. This term includes both explicit and implied sex.
