I was wondering, I remember reading somewhere on the rules that FF.N had banned song fictions. However, I see tons of recent ones and I've written some myself and haven't been emailed about it. Do you guys know if they've changed the rules on that?

How do those work anyways? I don't think I've ever read or seen a songfic before. So I can't really say if they've been banned or not. I just took a look at the ToS too...nothing there.
Hopefully you'll find out more about that.

I think my sister told me something about they don't want you to write a story about a song. I think using a song in a story is ok so long as you give credit where it is due. I have a songfic, and it hasn't been reported or anything, and I even had a character sing a song once (mary-sue moment, but I had to do it), and haven't gotten in any trouble. So I don't think it's too much of an issue.

From what I remember, FF.net doesn't want songfics because of copyright issues. The thing I notice is that they aren't really enforcing the rules. I have seen dozens of songfics after the rule was put in & I'm even guilty of writing full out songfics or having a song in a fic. They had the rule back in 2005 & nothing had been done about it.

I just recently put up a song fic and nothings happened. I think though that if you give a disclaimer saying who the song belongs to, you should be fine.
