Well, I was thinking how far Seras has came, she wasn't my one of my favorite charchters but now that i think about her in this light, i can say " Why yes, i do like sera as a charchter" .
But now I would like if you would go on about what you think changed Seras from the begining to the ending.

Seras has been one of my favorite characters from the very beginning. I felt so alone in my fandom for the longest time because everyone always used to criticize her for refusing to drink blood or kill humans or whatever. Now that she has come such a long way and people are starting to like her, all I can think is "What took you so long?"

That being said, I don't understand the nature of your question Tsuki. Are you asking about Seras's change from human to vampire, the psychological aspects that allowed that change, or something else entirely?

I think it's a question of just her character, how she has evolved over time to what she is now.

Development.

*clears throat*
Now, Seras' history, as far back as we have gone, starts in tragedy.
The first important point in her life is the murder of her parents, this is what starts shaping her, and it ultimately changes the course of her life.

The next change is yet another tragedy. After finally becoming part of the police force, she loses all her fellow officers in Chedder, is nearly raped, is shot and turned... and bam.

Once again her life has been twisted, and she's starting down a new road.

Finally, we have one last change: The death of Pip.
This is followed by her first willing drink of blood, as well as her first important kill...
This is followed shortly by Alucard accepting her, and finally giving her what I think she's always wanted from him.
He calls her by her name, he looks at her in way that is actually endearing, rather then harsh and judging. He gives her the credit she deserves, and the last thing he says to her is to go and conquer, "with our master."

Then, with Alucards death, she steps up even higher, taking Integra's orders to kill with stride....

And what of the end? How does she grow and evolve as Hellsing's servant after the stories over?

She still has many years to go. =/

.....aaaand, that's my simple outline and response to Tsuki's thread. Yup. 3nodding

Yes, Seras has come so far, and she still has such a long way to go...

Well, there isn't much else for me to say. As Suni has said, a few tragic yet pivotal points have transpired in Seras's life that have shaped her character, causing her to develope gradually from the innocent little girl that she once was to the full-fledged Draculina that we have all come to respect, if not admire now. I cannot imagine what's in store for her next, but I would like to believe that she can only continue to get better and not worse... (I really hope she doesn't rot internally with age or become a corrupt "tyrant" like other vampires, or get killed unnecessarily prematurely or somthing...)

*looks up from typingplanning the latest chapter of a certain fanfic*

Uhhh, whut? xd

Anyway, in my opinion, I think... I think she will grow worse in a very distant future. I think as long as she's serving the Hellsing family she'll be alright, but I think after that, if anything, she'd just.... well, lose interest.

I don't think familiars would drive her mad, since I doubt she'll ever get that many. It's just not her style... maybe she'll have Pip, and a few other souls. =/

...but more importantly, I think she'll always keep a strong drive to NOT become like her master. I think she's witnessed the worst possible future for herself, and will avoid it... however, I think overtime she will fall to one of Alucard's problems... time.

I don't think anyone can live that long and not grow tired of such an existence...
but I think she'll still have many good years ahead of her, when I say that she'll fall to the same depression and boredom, I mean that it will happen, like, hundreds of years from now.

I think that's unavoidable for anyone.

Of course, you are right Suni and Tsuki. I don't think that even time is something that even Seras can conquer, but I hope that it takes a lot of it to wear her down, and not a little. I don't want her to go nuts prematurely or die before she is good and ready, maybe pick out a worthy replacement before she goes... But then the thought of Seras being an ancient boss vampire and not a young foundling does make me sad. emo

Ha ha, I'm such a baby, getting all emo for a fictional character. xd

I don't think Seras would take other souls/lives within her. She doesn't need any other but Pip. More souls would drive her mad, her symbiosis with Pip is perfect because they love each other enough to sacrifice what is the most important for each of them. The fact she wouldn't drink from her fallen companions and enemies was established already (she had plenty choices which she refused). She's not a crazy tyrant like Alucard is who found his undoing by taking lives and glutton in their existences, she's come far from his madness and stayed more powerful than he is.

Look at the result of this last war, Alucard didn't defeat any important enemy just Anderson who wasn't Hellsing's nor England's enemy. Maxwell and the nameless ones were fruit from Integra's intent to kill and Alucard acting as her weapon, that's all. While Seras (along with Pip) took out Zorin and Captain, plus assisted Integra *and* Alucard when they were in trouble. She has surpassed him as the new servant of the Hellsing family. There's nothing more to add of how she is now.

There's no question about how Seras has developed as a character.

In the incident in her childhood, her whole world was turned upside down. She was traumatized. She developed an anti-social personality disorder that made her very difficult to get along with. She was shipped from orphanage to orphanage, but she was never adopted. Eventually, she rose up and overcame, following in her father's footsteps and becoming a police officer.

Even so, she had no family and she had no home.

In the incident in Cheddar village, her whole world was turned upside down once again, and just when she was getting used to it. She was turned into a vampire. She was forced to leave her old life behind and embrace a new one. She had to accept the fact that she wasn't human, anymore. She had to accept the fact that she was a vampire. She had to drink blood. Eventually, she rose up and overcame, following in her surrogate father's footsteps and becoming Integra's servant.

At this point, she'd found a new family and a new home in Hellsing.

Seras's relationship with Pip is the most important part of her development. Although they got off to a rocky start, the tables quickly turned. Eventually, they developed a friendship. They complimented each other perfectly. Seras brought out his nobility and Pip brought out her backbone. Gradually, their friendship became something more. In the end, Pip sacrificed his life for Seras, stole a kiss, and told her to drink his blood, which she did. Alucard had been telling Seras to do this throughout the series, but it was Pip that finally got her to do it. Seras then avenged Pip's death. Later, during her duel with the Captain, Pip brought Seras back from the brink of defeat and gave her the assistance she needed in order to win. Now they share the same body. No matter what happens, they'll always be together.

Clearly, it's Pip, more than anything, that helps Seras accept who and what she is.

While Seras is more of a supporting character than a main one, her role becomes more important as the story progresses. She develops as a servant, but she also develops as a person. In her flashback, there is a panel in which her superior asks her why she wants to become a police officer. I think that that question is significant, especially to Seras herself. It seems to me that Seras always wanted to help people. Over the course of the story, she learns to accept what she's become and to use it to do what she's always wanted to do. She has a strong sense of right and wrong, and although she learns to put it aside in order to do what needs to be done, she still believes in it. She is self-righteous. She accuses Alucard when he kills "innocent" humans. She gets angry at the Nazis for smiling as they die and at the Major for trying to justify his actions. She also sees the Captain's death as vengeance for the things the SS did during WWII.

It's that strong sense of right and wrong that makes her much different than Alucard. It makes her into the hero that Alucard could never have been.

Recently, I've been having discussions in the Hiranomoe forums about what will happen to Seras after Alucard and Integra die. It's not as easy as it seems. Each time Alucard has died, his world has died with him. Since Seras is a part of his world, it makes sense that she should die when he dies. This might seem ridiculous, but, considering how Hellsing revolves around Alucard, I wouldn't put it past Hirano.

In the end, Seras's story arc was about two things: 1) taking Alucard's place as Integra's servant, and 2) finding a new family and a new home. She accomplished these things. However, when Integra dies, she'll lose them. She won't have anything left. She won't be happy, anymore. If you read between the lines of the last chapter, you can see that. She doesn't want to talk about what will happen to Hellsing when Integra dies. She can't accept the fact that Integra got old even though Alucard can and does. She also suggests that Integra have Alucard suck her blood. Although it seems like she's teasing Integra with the man she loves or with Integra's own dark desires, she's also trying to make sure her world isn't turned upside down again. On the other hand, there are also things that might indicate that Seras has her own future ahead of her, such as her interactions with Heinkel and Penwood.

Also, Seras is a dog. She needs her masters' wills in order to act. Without her masters' wills, she is nothing more than a monster. However, Seras is much more flexible than Alucard is. Hellsing gave Seras a home, a family, and a purpose. When Hellsing ends, her home and her family will be gone, but her purpose will remain. I can imagine her going on until she feels she's accomplished her purpose or she's found someone she feels can accomplish it for her. If she were to try to accomplish her purpose even after her masters' deaths, she would probably see that as fulfilling her masters' wishes.

Personally, I see Seras as standing at a threshold between an ending and a new beginning, between an original concept and a new one. I think it's her choice whether or not she wants to cross it. I can imagine her moving on with her life while keeping her masters' wills alive within her just as easily as I can imagine her looking for a human to kill her just as Alucard would.

I think that somebody should ask Hirano what he thinks Seras will do after her masters' deaths, although I doubt he'd give us a serious answer.
