Lately I've been writing some notes to help me in my faith. This is one I particularly like. It's notes on a seminar that a famous pastor made that I listened to.
What is the Holy Spirit?
-The Holy Spirit is the third in the Trinity: God, Jeus, and the Holy Spirit.
-The Holy Spirit can not be seen as family as were Father and son, but to them it is something.
Partial List of properties of the Holy Spirit from the Old Testament
-The Holy Spirit can reside in a person.
-The abiding presence can be taken away.
-It "comes upon," or fills a person, all in a transitory sense, that is, it comes and goes in terms of it's influence.
- It can overwhelm normal behavior in a transitory way.
-It can inspire people to do art.
-It can speak through a person.
-It can tend to run in families, according to Isaiah, conditionally of course.
-It can be vexed
-It can come to someone who is repentant.
-It can be an overpowering experience.
- If you once had the Holy Spirit and it is now gone, you are forever changed by the experience. And the change is for the worse.
-The Holy Spirit is the active agent for God in the world as exemplified in the begetting of Jesus Christ.
-The Holy Spirit does what God is deemed to have done. So when Mary was with child of the Holy Spirit, and the child was the Son of God.
"Wherefore I say unto you, all manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, is shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come."
-In the New Testament, the Holy Spirit appeared, apparently for the first time ever, in a bodily form that could be seen-- a dove.
"And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came down from heaven, which said, 'Thou are my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.'"
