How many of you have cartilage piercings?
They're fairly common. I have one. The first one had to be removed because it was too infected and simply hurt too much.
The one that I have now WAS healed. I stretched it to an 8ga (gradually), and now it's infected. Every morning I wake up with crust around it. There is also some scarring around the front and back of it.
What are some suggestions you have with it healing back up properly? I did one sea salt soak and then used a chamomile teabag press within the last day. Should I continue this? How often? Any other recomendations?

I dont see why you would use Camomile's tea, yes its good to drink but i certainly wouldn't use it on a piercing for the body O_o

For infections - keep using the sea salt water
For scarring - use tea tree oil, it is found at organic stores.

I have two in my right ear, just random, and i had a 3rd but i had to take it out. I have two in my left ear that was a industrial, but i couldn't take the constant pain, and the bar is gone.

I have one, in my right ear.
I barely remember having it done and how I cleaned it because it was so long ago.
But I've always used sea salt water on my other piercings.

Wish I could help you- I've never experienced an infection before, but you'd think I'd know anyway.
I think what the others said will do fine.
Wow, on the poll, the ratio is 3 to 1 with cartilage piercings! I only have 4 piercings!! I want so many more!! Especial cartilage!

This can't be real...
thanks for the info. I called Angry Moon Tattoo in Pittsburgh and the piercer, based on the symptoms I gave him, suggested an aspirin paste for the hypertrophic scarring. will give it a try! anyone had success with this?

My piercing like, never get infected.
I dont know why, i love it though.
My friend just pierced a third hold at the bottom of my ear, kinda.
And its not infected, though its only been about 2 days.
I had to re-peirce it like 3 times though.

Yep, it was fantastic.
I have two helix piercings connected into a corkscrew Industrial (I never know what to call it, but it's nifty) and the second hole got a bit of hypertrophic scarring on the back side. With the aspirin paste, the bump went down considerably in two days, and was completely gone within a week. I was also told to use a vitamin E rich moisturiser on the piercing to keep the skin flexible - and since that was added into the aftercare routine, no more scarring.

For the infection, I think you just have to keep soaking it, and babying the piercing. Treat it like it's new, and clean it twice a day, soaking it once a day. Continue until it feels better. If it gets too much worse, probably go see a piercer or a doctor. Could it be a sensitivity issue?
