So I have never tried either of these but so far we are attempting to see if i take to Grey wash...

Why do you Prefer the one you do ?

I have both, and they are about the same to me.
Though the grey wash will not stand up to any tanning, it seems. I don't tan any more, so not a problem for me. My husband is the type who will tan through a tee shirt if he's not careful. While we still lived in Texas, part of his backpiece nearly disappeared. Now that we are in Washington it is almost back to normal.

Of course, we all should know that tanning is a tattoo "no-no" lol.

What is this gray wash? O_O

lol I guess that would of helped a lot lol ok so here goes

regular shading first .. the artist takes straight black ink and uses it to shade by not going as deep in the skin to give it a lighter look

Grey wash is that they add water to the ink and got just as deep as when they do the outline .. but since the ink is thinned it doesn't go in as dark ..

Well, on my griffon, my artist used regular shading, and everyone says that one is their favorite. There's a lot more contrast and depth. But for my unicorn, while she didn't use the gray wash, she did use gray ink. It's a lot less contrasty, but since the unicorn is much more dainty and girly, it fits the tattoo itself a lot more than regular shading would have. I think it just depends on the mood and attitude of the tattoo you want. 3nodding

From what I understand, the ink is less likely to migrate when you use a gray wash, which I'd say is a vote in it's favour, but it also depends on what you're going for and what your tattoo artist gets the best results with.
