I have always thought I had some kind of personality or mood disorder because in some situations I am in the wrong emotional state. I was happy at a funeral once, I almost laughed out loud during the service for no apparent reason. I seem to be depressed a lot, and even though everything in my life is going good at the moment I seem to just be depressed about everything. How do I know what I have? My mom doesn't believe in these things, she says it's all a phase.

I'd suggest that you talk to your family physician about it, and he can reccomend a psychologist if he feels your case warrants further investigation. If you can't get to your physician easily, then you could talk with a school counselor (or, if your school has one, the school psychologist) about it and they can give you advice and talk to your mom about it. Adults tend to listen better to other adults than to their children, even when they're telling them the exact same thing.

Well, my family physician is this short popmpas a*****e and my school counselors are more interested in scheduling than helping kids. As for a school psychologist, you have to display suicidal or destructive actions to be able to see him.

really, you need to talk to someone, since only a professional would be able to tell you what's wrong. There are ways to find a psycologist...even if you're not suicidal, there might be a way to talk to the school's one and get at least a reccommendation for another one if that can't help....it is your parent's responsibility to help you if you really do have something major, so it's best to figure it out before it's too late...usually by the time you're really suicidal help isn't gonna do a hell of a lot of good, or it will take a lot more

You'll need a doctor to help you figure out what's wrong with your body to make you feel depressed when you shouldn't. I hope you feel better soon. Maybe talk to a school counsellor or other community resource about going to a free clinic so that your mother doesn't have to choose whether or not you see a doctor.

I've never thought of a free clinic. I don't know why, it makes all the sense in the world. Thanks
