Chakeleti had awoken as the sun hit her face in the little oasis that she had been taken to. The first thing she thought about was where was she this morning, and then memory of pain and kindness came back quickly. Looking to her paw, it was obvious that the swelling was markedly down, and the slit cut had healed over nicely. She felt only a dull ache as the ligaments continued to heal themselves, but she felt confident that she could walk. As if to prove this to herself, she rolled to her stomach and attempted to get her feet under her. Well, maybe it still hurt a bit.... Wincing only slightly, she was quickly to her feet, appreciating the mocked splint that the dark lion had put on it yesterday, hopefully she wouldn't injure her paw any further.

At that point she realized that he had stayed with her while she slept, but even at that point she hadn't expected him to stay that much longer. Her violet eyes blinked at the bright sun as she scanned the horizon, not seeing any immediate danger, and then brought her attention to her surroundings, searching them for the lion that had helped her so much.... She still didn't like her odds in a fight.

He had kept to his word, watching over the lioness through the night, allowing himself only a light sleep. When he was certain that she was safe, he had moved a short distance away, far enough to hunt a small rabbit, leaving the prey near the lioness should she decide she was hungry. Now, as the sun rose, he rested near the water's edge, watching in silence until she awakened.

An ear twitched, catching the sound of movement, the intake of breath, she was awake. His head turned, gaze settling on the lioness, watching, judging the state of her injury.

"You heal quickly, good."

He only wondered what she intended now. Would she rest as she should, giving the injury the time it needed to heal, or would she stubbornly continue on whatever trek she had before they'd crossed paths. Something told him it was the latter, of course, it could never be easy.

The scent of fairly fresh kill caught at the lioness' nose, and as she looked around her, her eyes fell on the rabbit. Looking at the kill that was nearer to her than to Amrun, she then lifted her eyes to the dark lion. A question was held in them, not able to be certain that the food was for her. It seemed obvious, but it was so unexpected that she was caught a bit off guard.

His assessment of her injury interrupted any question that she had thought of voicing. "Yes, it uh, appears so." Flexing her paw carefully, she nodded, reassured that it was holding her weight with out increasing in pain. Looking back to the rabbit, though, Chak lowered her head, sniffing at it hungrily, before looking back to his green eyes for confirmation that it had been for her. Her teeth then sank into the meat. Healing was hard work after all. After she had eaten most of the meat, she looked up once again, not sure what to do now.

"I'm sorry, that I got you involved in this...." She looked down at the remains of the rabbit before raising her gaze again, "I... I can't stay here though, obviously. You can't look after me until I can fight for myself again."

"There is no need to apologize, I only did what was right."

His tail flicked, she had been lucky. Another lion may have simply left her to die, or worse, decided she was a suitable meal. or perhaps it was he that had been unlucky in stumbling across her. Curse his good conscience.

Eyes narrowed, watching carefully, so she intended to move on did she? Foolishness, the savannah was an unforgiving place, especially to one who did not give time for wounds to heal. But it was her choice, if she wanted to risk the lose of her leg or worse, he certainly wasn't going to try to stop her, fools could make their own mistakes, even old fools like himself.

"What do you intend to do now?"

His voice was flat, a simple question. Did she intend to trust her luck to hold, or was there more intelligence in that thick skull?

Chakeleti flicked her tail idly to the side, slightly frustrated by his lack of acceptance of the apology. His response had been dismissive, not polite. She knew she should be grateful for his kindness, but it was difficult for her to tolerate, despite this. Her paw was sore, but certainly was fine to walk on, in her opinion. It was easy to read his expression, his narrowed eyes, haughty posture. The brown lioness had never been in such a humiliating position before, but she was quite sure she wanted to get out as quickly as possible.

What did she intend to do? Looking to the side once again, Chak searched her mind for her possibilities. The only family she could think of were in the Pridelands. Well, there were plenty of family members, but she hadn't been in contact for ages, and the Pridelands was the only home she had ever had. Looking back up to those annoying green eyes, she was reassured that, if she hadn't lost track of her location too much, the Pridelands was also the closest pride area to here. She might even be able to make it on her own....

"I can go to the Pridelands, I lived there once...." There was a mask of pain in the memories, but she continued with her explanation, ignoring any undertones in her voice, "They are close as well, less than a day's walk. I'll go there to recover, unless you think I should just stay at this little oasis for a moon cycle...." There was sarcasm obvious in her last statement, which probably wasn't all that smart, since he had rescued her, or at least spared her life.

"That, is entirely up to you. All that happens comes only from our own choices, we can only hope we make the right ones."

It wasn't that he meant to be condescending, or even that he disliked the lioness, he simply showed no emotion on the matter. With emotional attachments there came trust, friendship, love, and eventually, betrayal. He knew this because he had seen it, far too many times. It was something he did not wish to see, or know, again.

"Those lands are not far, and the walk is easy, but the land is open, to predator and prey."

A faint nod, his words a simple warning. A warning to be careful where she trod least she injure herself further, a warning that perhaps held true no matter where one went or how they did so. For everywhere danger lurked, though he supposed there would be no point in life otherwise. A life lived in fear was not much of a life, and a life free of danger was not appreciated for what it truly was.

((that was poetic xD))

Purple eyes peered at the lion in slight amusement. Getting a straight answer out of this one was a game on to itself! Cocking one brow, and keeping her gaze otherwise neutral, Chak regarded him silently, listening to his words and trying to make some sense out of them. She was fairly certain that most of the things he said had fairly little real meaning to them, simply common sense really. Of course her life was determined by her choices, and of course she wanted to make the right ones. Why did he feel the need to point it out?

Nodding once more to his obvious statements, though this time at least he was saying something productive, Chak sighed, looking at the sun. It was growing to midday, and it would be a hot walk, and she wasn't guaranteed to make it before the sun fell. Then it would be overly dangerous to travel. "It will be dark before I reach those lands though. I slept far too late this morning for a traveling lion...." She shook her head in masked disgust at her own body. Her injury was obviously still healing, and so it was good that she had slept, but she still didn't like it.

Looking back to the dark lion, she resigned herself to spending one more day with him, "I suppose it would be wise to sleep early tonight and rise early tomorrow, so that I can reach the lands in one day...."

"If that is what you wish."

There was a faint nod of his head, the slightest hint of encouragement in his voice. He knew that her trek was best delayed until the following day. Another day meant another day of rest, another day of healing, and another day stronger. The lioness was at least wise enough to know that traveling at night on three limbs was dangerous, though perhaps not as dangerous as setting out on three limbs with no clear idea of a safe place to rest. Quietly, he was pleased, and perhaps a little impressed.

Of course he supposed that mean he would be needed to watch over her one more night, but he couldn't bring himself to just abandon her. When she left on her own, that would be the end of it, they would part ways, but until then, she was in his care, and he would make certain no harm came to her on his watch.

"If so, rest well until sunrise, I will see that no harm comes to you."

Was there a hint of something positive in his voice and expression. Chak glanced back to the features of the unlikely companion, but it was gone as quickly as it appeared. The brown lioness was almost certain, though, that his attitude has softened slightly. She took that as as much opinion as he would give on the matter, and settled her thoughts on the subject. She would rest at this watering hole one more day, and set out bright and early in the morning. Upon reaching the pridelands, she would simply hope that someone kind would vouch for her, she didn't rest much hope in finding family after all these moons.

Circling back to the area she had slept in last night, Chak turned her attention to Amrun as his voice caught her ears once more. He would stay with her another night? That was overly kind of him, and not something Chak would have bet on. Perhaps there was a soft heart underneath his rough exterior after all. Well, something had to have made him take her here instead of abandoning her when she collapsed after all. Nodding, slightly hesitantly, she settled down once more, "Thank you. You've been exceedingly kind.... I doubt there is much I could help you with, but if there is ever a way I can settle my debt to you, I will try." Her lips pursed slightly as she worried over being so imposing once more, but then she laid her head on a grassy patch and fell into an afternoon nap.

"Doing the right thing does not require thanks, it is it's own reward, but you are welcome."

He shook his head, tail twitching lightly as he settled a short distance for the water's edge. He did not seek gratitude or favors, perhaps the ideas of such made him uncomfortable and maybe he simply thought such ideas were silly. He had only acted as he knew was needed, he needed no further justification than that.

But it didn't matter now. If the lioness sought to repay him, if she felt that was what was right, then who was he to argue. Come morning, they would likely go their separate ways and he doubted they would ever cross paths again, yet he wondered if either of them would ever forget the other. Somewhere, every creature remembered all those that they had encountered, the only difference was how clearly.

His head shook again, clearing his thoughts, chin resting on his paws as his eyes remained alert. Now he would simply watch, making certain that no harm would come until the dawn.
