I read a little thing elsewhere on gaia about making little hatchy critters of an extremely simple sort, and this morning, I got an urge to give it a go. It's all done and ready to go. (Since I did the art on a whim this morning, don't expect too much. Future iterations might be better, if the first one works out.)

Feel free to take a pet by copying the code to the BBCode compatible spot of your choice. (The URL in the code refers to this thread.) If anyone wants an HTML version of the code, I can do that too. Just let me know.

It should hatch as I replace the images. These come in four stages: Egg, Cracked, Peeky, and Pet.

UPDATE, September 14: I've decided to skip the hatching and just post critters for each month.

Due to a mistake on my part, only the final pet has a transparent background. The egg images have a white background. I would fix it, but they are going to be replaced by the final one soon anyway, right? Better luck next month, if I do it again. wink Future pets will probably have some sort of tag on them so that people can tell where they came from.

I'd tell you about the final critter, but then it wouldn't be much of a surprise.... It's nothing special, but I think it is kind of cute.

Sept. 10: It's hatched! It's sort of a slightly misshapen pom-pom bear thing, but I think he's cute for a quick test run critter.

I should draw a red panda for December. A red panda in a Santa hat.

Ok, so I totally blew off the January pet. How about this-- Before the end of next weekend, I will make a new pet that will change every month without you having to do anything at all? I'll also throw in some options for people who like a specific one and want to stick with it.

Perhaps I should have an art contest for this! That could be fun.
