This past weekend I needed a salad dressing and like most college students I was low on funds and didn't have vinegar (which is in most salad dressing recipes). What my boyfriend and I did was making a simple syrup and used what I had in my fridge. Measurements aren't exact so I apologize for the inconvenice.

Ingredients:
1 c. Water
1 c. Sugar
Mustard
half and half
flour (optional)

Directions:
In the smallest sauce pan you have put the water in and bring it up to a boil, then add the sugar and put it on low heat. Stir constantly until sugar dissolves. Then get the mustard (we had the squeeze bottle one) and pour enough so that it covers the entire surface (you can add more though if you want).

At this point you'll need a whisk to help break down the mustard. When the mustard is mostly or completely broken down pour in enough half and half so that the mixture gets cloudy. Keep whisking until the mustard is pretty much broken down and everything is mixed together.

At this point you can add the flour if you want to. Honestly we added what may be a teaspoon of it and it just globbed up on us no matter how much we whisk. We strained most it out anyway. So maybe only an 1/8 of was left. My boyfriend said it helped thickened it up but I'm not so sure. Maybe you all can tell me.

Allow the dressing to cool and enjoy!
