This is something I started doing on accident originally. When I was doing a spell with my sister we had three candles burning and dripping hot wax into pools on the plate, I was trying to sprinkle some dried herbs onto some charcoal in the middle, and they landed in the wax. As I watched the wax set back up around them I thought that was an interesting way to make a charm. So I tried it out the next time I was making a protective charm for part of a friends house warming. I burned red, black and white candles and let their wax pool together then I sprinkled in some protective and blessing herbs (rosemary, holly, and sage I believe) into the area where the three colors met. I let it set up a little, then cut it into a house shape. We got a little picture frame to place it inside then hung it above his front door. He loved it, and asked me to make another one for his sister.
I have used this process for healing, luck, protections for home and car (though if you live in area where it gets real hot during summer, that might not be the best choice). It works wonderfully, is a little easier to carry than a pouch of herbs, and can be aesthetically appealing.
What are some ways you have found to use herbs?

Sadly, I haven't had a chance to work with herbs, though I am rather interested in them. 3nodding I think the idea of herbs in wax is great. biggrin One thought that comes to mind, though, concerning ways to work with herbs (and this is coming from someone who has not really had a chance to work with them D: ) is possibly planting certain types around your house (on the outside, obviously), like protective ones, as an alternative to placing protective stones around your house. 3nodding

Do you find that the different colors of wax make a contribution to each of these work-of-art's purpose?

Planting herbs around the house is a very good and beautiful idea. And it is fairly common practice actually. I personally don't have that option yet. (My husband is in the Army, and so most places we have lived have been rentals, or with family members. I do have three terra cotta pots I use to grow herbs in, that way they can be moved with us.)
As for the candle colors the colors are triggers for certain emotions or energy I want to put in it. So it does seem to add to it magically as well as visually. In the healing spell (for friends that had been in a car accident) I used white ( reminds me of medical places) green (healing earth energy, herbal medicine has lots of green) and blue (soothing water calming) *another kind of neat thing to do with candle wax is to pour it into a bowl of cool water and see what interesting shapes it makes. Haven't included herbs in this yet, was just something I used to do as a bored teenager.*

I really do need something to distract myself...Having some issues just surviving day to day.... neutral
