Define hipsters. Is it offensive? or a compliment? Im pretty undecided about the whole world of hipsters, and it might just be a Chicago thing, at least the hipsters Im thinking of.
I know that Im not one of the bike hipsters
bike hipster (bieek hipstuur) n. one who rides a fixed gear bike, and sports various bike gear. May wear bike caps and Chrome shoulder bags. Dress may be either indie- like, grunge, or punk (for me Jay Reatard comes to mind), can be found at bicycle polo games. I enjoy my bike, but its not one of them insane fixed gear, weightless bikes.
Im also not part of the vegan punks
vegan punk (veegin pun-k) n. vegans or vegetarians, who aren't necesarily into punk style or music. females appear to often be bisexual or lesbians. Can be found at folk punk shows
Ive got my indie kid tendancies however. At least I hope so. HAhA indie kid (in-dee kiduh) n. one who is into indie musics, commonly seen in vintage clothing, as well as ironic thrift store finds. usually is part of a combo (indie kid who is vegan/indie kid who likes biking/ indie kid so well versed in music that he somehow slectively listens to everything), can be found standing awkwardly at shows
And I guess I have some hipster ways, but not fully. hipster (hip-stuur) n. 1. one who always wears either an ironic or a very colorful T- Shirt, enjoys folks similar to Girl Talk and The Hood Internet (mash up ironically hip hop stuff) often have those gangsta' caps. American Apparel is remeniscent of the hipster style. 2. One who matches the above style, but is only interested in partying as opposed to musics.
Any other groups? I fear some of these may just be a Chicago thing, but we'll find out soon enough.

Sounds about right. I love vintage clothes. And a lot of kids at my school (Art Institute of Colorado) ride fixies.

Ehh, Hipsters have kinda become a paradox of themselves, I think. I live near Williamsburg, Brooklyn in New York. Williamsburg used to be a s**t town, it was the place you wanted to stay away from, gangs, robbers, rapists, it was the downright ghetto (Brooklyn in the 1980's, of course). Then, it became the mecca of Indie Music, where all the underground shows happened, all the musical folk moved in because it was one train stop from Manhattan, but there was much cheaper rent. So now, it's overrun with 'hipsters' who pretty much scrutinize you over what you wear, how you wear your hair, in short, how 'hip' you are. Trust me, anyone can tell if you're not from Williamsburg. There's new high rise building going for about a million bucks. TV shows film there, including Americas Next Top Model, a season of the Real World, and Top Chef. So Williamsburg is pretty much labeled as the 'New Manhattan', but came at a price. Why are Hipster So Small Minded? Can the Q be the Next L Train?Interview with Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Why are Hipster So Small Minded? Can the Q be the Next L Train?Interview with Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah YeahsGenerally agree. I live in the area too, and I know exactly what you're saying. Wiliamsburg is a ridiculous excuse for overpriced second hand stores and small coffee shops. I enjoy it, but there is only so much I can take haha. I mean, most would probably classify me as a hipster based on appearance, but i don't think I exude the disinterested non-nonchalance and affinity for party-going that a real hipster would give off.

I know what you mean, I loved Williamsburg too, and I still enjoy going occasionally. But yeah, the food (especially coffee for some reason) is super overpriced, and basic clothing goes for more than fifty bucks. It reminds me of an experience I had when I went into a coffee shop. I asked for a regular iced coffee. This skinny dude told me 'we don't have regular, but we have Americano' If only you could hear the way he said it. Anyway, I just asked for the damn four dollar coffee and left.
