Three years had passed since Atem watched as his true love knocked off his horse with an arrow sticking out of his chest, in his heart. he pondered on his throne now, why this memory decided today to stab him in the heart. he woke up in tears from dreaming about it, and now he just couldnt get the sight of yugis face as he died out of his head and he felt like he was going insane, like his heart was literally breaking from the memory. if this was some plot by the gods to torture him for some reason, he wished they would stop this and end his misery. it took him months to get rid of the dreams at first, but now it seemed they were returning. would he ever be free from the torment of that day?

Atem eventually got tired of attempting to bore out the memories by drilling his finger into his temple. the only thing that accomplished was giving him a slight headache from the pressure point he was pressing against. unfortunatly for him there was nothing going on important enough to distract him from the memories.

he remembered how long it took his father to finally get him to release yugis body so they could prepair him and his father for their funeral, only to have his body stolen by someone they still didnt know whom. atem refused to fall in love again feeling he would betray yugi by doing so. he just couldnt move on, he didnt want to. he really wanted to feel the pain forever so at least yugi would be there with him through that.

ignoring the conserned look from his priests, they knowing what was bugging him, he walked out of the room and headed towards the stable. he would hang out there and tend to his horse, hikari, whom he named for the nickname he gave yugi. still in death, yugi was atems whole world and for some reason today atem wanted anything he did to have something to do with his long lost lover.

Atem stroked teh horses nose lightly, cailming it, or so he told himself. perhaps it was to make him feel better, but he really didnt care. after a moment he stopped petting teh horse. he felt like someone was in the room with him. he just concentrated on that feeling, trying to figure out where it was going

Atem sighed. he couldnt care less who it was in the room, if anyone was there. not like he couldnt defend himself.

"hey heba."

he whispered to the horse.

"i think its time to get over him, dont you?"

he sighed, realy not wanting to

"its been so long. im so tired of wishing him back. im just too tired. i cant rule this kingdom like this. im so worn out..."

he heard a soft growl.

"whose there?"

he asked, done with this game of hide and seek

Atem stood there looking around the stable.

"if you work for bakura, tell him hes ruined my life already. he did worse then killing me could possibly do. now get out of here before i kill you!"

the slightly muffled voice coming from the hiding spot sounded oddly familar to the young monarch.

"do you think a simple knife or whatever weapon youre weilding will kill me? you think id let you get that close to me? you must take me as some fool."

he said, his defenses rising a bit as he used his shadow energies to scan the area, attempting to find the intruder
