Amber lay in Oblivion, turning an idea over and over in her head. She wasn't sure where the idea had come from, but she knew that she didn't like it...

What if I died tomorrow?

"I'd do whatever I wanted, get all the shiny things I can, and spend my last day in Oblivion having the time of my life," she decided, sitting up and curling her tail about herself primly.

But you do that already! A pestering voice persisted. When have you ever not gotten your way? Even if it meant hurting other beings? You've stolen from two-leggers AND other hounds, whether it's pretending to be loyal to them and then swiping their goods, or making all those male Hounds think that you loved them so they'd bring you things, then dropping them like yesterday's dog bone. If this were your last day, how would you make it different?

Amber sighed and rubbed her front paws together to make the shinies click against each other - sending a satisfying sound throughout Oblivion's mists. Without trying to, she thought of the marking on her right flank. A spider. Many of her various male friends - after she had taken their gifts and broke the news to them that she just didn't feel the same way - had said that the marking suited her. They called her a spider, and worse.

She had a piece of jewelry for every being that she'd ever hurt, whether through thievery or faked feelings...

Maybe... The rather annoying voice began to suggest something that Amber would by no means do. It would be so out of her character! Besides, what if they didn't forgive her, and just cursed at her... or worse, what if they laughed that she'd even dare to try and apologize!

Amber blew out a breath of air and got to her feet. Fine. If not just to shut this voice up, she'd do it. That way, if by some miracle she really DID die tomorrow, at least she'd have a clear conscience (Could that be what this little voice was? A conscience?).

Amber thought of all her shinies and cringed. It was going to be a long afternoon...

And it was. She started with the two leggers, who yelled at her and threw things. They weren't willing to forgive the dog with the spider, not the dog that had taken all that was valuable to them! Some pieces she couldn't even remember where they'd come from, so she ignored them for the time being. Then she came to the hounds. Most swore, and - as Amber had feared - a few laughed. Then she came upon the cave of the very first male Hounds she'd cheated. The one who'd given her the necklace which she now wore proudly as a symbol of the lifestyle she'd chosen.

"Gemman?" she called into the cave hesitently.

A male dog the color of sunlight stepped out. He stared at Amber for a moment without recognizing her, then a stricken expression came onto his face, which was then replaced by distrust.

"Amber," he said the name with contempt. He looked his first love up and down, taking in the many pieces of jewelry that adorned her. "I see you haven't restricted your treachory to me... I have nothing of value, so why don't you just get out of here?" He turned to go back into the cave.

"Wait!" Amber called sharply. She was surprised at the emotion in her voice. This was just a thing she was doing for no particular reason. Why did she sound like she really wanted to do this? Wasn't it just because the little voice wouldn't stop bugging her? Why did... Why was she so terrified about seeing Gemman again? Oh well, at least he'd stopped and turned to face her again. "I..." She found that she couldn't force out the words. "This is... This is really stupid, and I don't know why I'm doing it, but..."

She took in a deep breath.
"I'm sorry."
Gemman blinked.
"I never should have done what I did, and I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?" she let out a breath. She had done it. Now he could curse her and turn away like all the others, and she could at least tell herself that she'd tried.

She was taken aback when a smile came onto Gemman's face.
"Finally," he grinned broadly. "I've been waiting two and a half years for that apology... You're forgiven." With that, he walked back into his cave.

This time it was Amber's turn to blink in confusion. What? He... Forgave her? Well... alright.
She began to wonder why it was that she felt so good to be forgiven... Then she stopped herself. Oh no. The little voice was NOT going to get her to 'change her ways' or whatever. It was time to go home...

~

Amber woke the next morning and took a brief inventory of her body parts, memories, and especially her shinies. All were intact. Nothing was wrong with her. She hadn't miraculously died in her sleep. She smirked to herself. The little voice had done all that for nothing. And now she could go back to what she loved best: Getting shiny things! She spotted a silver female wolf with strange markings... and an attractive earring that linked onto her horn! Could this be her new best friend! With whom she could giggle and share secrets... and jewelry?

A sneaky grin on her face, Amber approached the wolf...

Prompt Reply: ((Notes: I didn't reveal her name in the story because she would be nameless, this would drive her fear of being forgotten, Kohaku would eventually be her name if I won her - It means Amber.))

She had always admired her own ingenuity, her ability to manipulate and evade, and now as she sprawled content in the mists of oblivion she found herself reflecting on life. At first the reflection was pleasing, the cool mist of the oblivion washed her fur and reminded her of her days spent luring the god like males of Asgard down to tumble with her in the mortal realm.

She loved to be a lover, never fight in a battle which you can evade, that was her style. Her body tingled with the memory of noons spent well sated. She had been gifted her beautiful beaded necklace by a particularly amorous male.

Slowly though, as the mist seeped into her nostrils she felt the strange and discomforting sensation of drowning. Too much moisture in the misty air turned her memories sour with the recollection of how she had stolen her bracelets, to match her necklace. Yes, she was a lover and a thief, and she was lucky to be alive. She had almost drowned trying to escape from Nephlim with the bracelets she now wore with such an easy flair.

She sighed and rolled onto her side, her branching horns scratching at the earth. How she longed for company now, someone with whom to share her misadventures. Or perhaps someone with whom to settle down with, to produce a progeny for the future. Her name would fade with time, with the wind, and rain, and seasons. The thought was chilling for she who had always been so warm and vibrant. No! She would not be snuffed out like a candle that burned to quickly and reached the end of it’s wick. She sprang to her feet and inhaled the clear air above the mist, today she would live life to the fullest, lest it be her last.

First breakfast, the hunt within Oblivion was difficult simply because one could never see far enough ahead to make some cunning strategy. Luck sided with her though and soon she held a plump rabbit in her jaws. She was about to rip into it when she gave pause, if she never ate another meal again, she would have liked to share the last with a friend. She set out in search of another hound one with whom she could converse with, share with, not just the meal, but the day.

She finally did come across another of her kind, a lone female sitting quietly on some rocks and contemplating on her own meal of the day. Almost instantly with the sharing of food they struck it off quite well, and the two tentative friends spent the day roaming oblivion. She shared with her newfound friend all the places that held the most meaning for her and at the end of the day she lay down beside another, with no lusty intent, no plan to steal, only the hope that now she would at least be remembered by one other. With that she closed her eyes uncertain if she would open them with the dawn, but nevertheless unafraid of what that might mean.

Just a Note: I named her Freya because of this, in which it states stuff about her necklace. It was prettiful. xD She had the nickname Odin because of the Norse god in that story.

The luminous doom threatened to begin to break the sky. Yes, that would be the sun. It was midnight, the moon at its highest point in the sky. It shone down with such ferocity that at the first drowsy glance it made the eye go blind for a few moments. The night was far from still, the wind blew steadily, promising rain. Ah, yes. Rain. How pleasant would that be? Very...

Pretty amber eyes gazed at the ground. They burned with restlessness. It was odd for her to be restless, especially at this hour. But for some reason she was. At first glance it looked like a psycopathic hound was in major need of counseling but if you looked harder, it was a restless and powerful body. Filled with wonder of everything and filled with life experiences. Just with some issue going on now, like a flea biting her rump repeatedly.

Freya's lithe body twitched, her muscles rippling perfectly in her etched out frame. Her muscles were expanding and contracting because they were too tense. Stress made her go wild. Something bugged her bejeweled body. A question brought up the former day. She kept repeating it in her head.
'What if I died tomorrow?'
Though literally speaking, today was tomorrow. Or tonight at midnight.

Freya had lived a long and happy life. She was a three-year-old but had experienced more than almost any other hellhound out there. She was a crook and a lover, or a former lover. She had gotten beautiful treasures that were too pretty to even be considered real. She'd met creatures more interesting than any other. And yet she still felt unfulfilled.

She had a horrible feeling nabbing at her stomach... It was like she needed to finish something. Do something. But what? What was so important that she had to be nagged on and on with this feeling? Her inner thoughts came to her quickly, running her over like bulls on parade. But instead of her own voice speaking, she heard that of another hound.
"Young one. Apologize to those you must. Live like there's a miracle around every corner and remember those that you once held dear."

Ok, then. Make the wrongs right.

Her mind was spinning, though, even as she stood on unsteady paws. She would have to go to see her former mate. The one that had once said he loved her, and she fought back, saying he did not believe it. His name? Ari, because of the wings painted on his side. Him and his gorgeous markings. Oh, how she loved him still. But she had never been able to admit it, no. She spent one year with him and knew where he would be. At the lake. He liked to swim, though his name meant Eagle. The large flying bird.

And so he was there, wading into the water. His pelt shimmered in the light of the moon. He was so incredibly amazing... "Hello, m'love!" Her voice sounded like ringing bells as it sifted across the evr-momving surface of the water. And you could tell it's sound surprised Ari. His ears shot forward and he tilted his head back, watching her. Seeing if this figure was his old love. His ears pinned back immediately. "No! Please wait... I need to tell you that I am so ashamed of being rude to you like that... I couldn't except the fact that somebody actually liked me. Loved me. And after all of this time... I realized, I love you too," she admitted.

The moon began to lower in the sky. Four hours had passed since before. Now the sun was rising, peeking up from hiding. "Please understand this, Freya. I... Need a moment to think if you wouldn't mind. I really, do still love you, too. But there is one problem... I don't know if it can be the same. I would love to stay with you but I had an incident in the months you were gone... I have, er... Two offspring, their mother named me as their father, so I was the one who had to take care of the to. A male and a female." She didn't know what to say. He had cheated on her? Ok, they were apart after all.

"I... I think that I would still like to be a part of your life, Ari. I couldn't possibly live without meeting your kin." The live part... if she lived after today, though. What if she did die tomorrow?

"If--If you'd like. But... Give our old lives time to heal. I do still want to be with you. Odin," he winked at her. Her nickname. Eyes seeped into her pelt, marveling at how eatched in her muscles had become. How much more she had grown. They were adolescents before. Now he was a stag and she a fully-capable to be able to get pregant. Ugh. They were all grown up. It made her shudder at the thought.

But her heart soared. She would meet his children! And the wave of anxiety left her. She would still have much time to go and make it up to the former owners of her stolen jewels. "More than anything! But, I must go. Please meet me back here at noon?" With a nod, she stalked off into the rising light.

This was the ending of her story. Or was it ust the new beginning? WHo knew how many adventures were possible?
