I have noticed that a lot of sherlockians do smoke tobacco, not specifically pipes but including cigs and cigars and the like. I was just wondering if I was just noticing a certain group of people, or if there is a higher proportion of smokers among us Holmes readers.

I almost guiltily admit, that if I had never gotten into the stories as much as I did I probably wouldn't be a smoker today. Not that there is anything wrong with that! It was my own choices.

When I get into something I tend to go head first and let it devour my entire life. When I was starting to get interested in body modification, I was getting so many things done, and without the restraint of my parents I probably would have done a whole deal more, which I am thankful I had them keeping me in check. I have since gone out of it and I'm happy looking as human as possible. When I was obsessed with the middle ages, I spent several hundred dollars on a (still unfinished) twelve foot tall trebuchet. It has always been one obsession after another, I don't have very mild interests, and if I do, they are usually seeds to later obsessions.

With my personality in mind, it was only in my nature, I think, that I started with my tobacco because of the stories. I have an obsessive personality.

With that in mind, me noticing the large number of smokers may just because of my own case of why I do smoke, that I am an isolated incident or, atleast, I am just not looking at everyone and just getting tunnel vision.

Is there a statistic somewhere? Or has anyone else noticed the number of smokers in this particular fan base?
